    One section of electronics.
    Norm K.

In my planning for everything for the trip to Paris, I screwed up cameras and I found out that I had no SD card in the camera I brought with me. Asking the hotel deskman, he told me to go to BHV which was in walking distance from the hotel. I found my way to the electronics area but it seemed like all they sold were micro SD chips with an adapter card. One clerk sent me to another secrtion of the store where he thought they might have the regular sized SDs. They didn't, but I decided to buy the micro card with the adapter. I was told by the clerk that once it was opened it was not returnable. Luckily, everything worked fine and the price was reasonable. Still, it seemed like they were understaffed and didn't know much about electronics. So much for a large department store.

    Zoom in for a surprise!

I still prefer BHV over the other large department stores in Paris. There are crowds, but not the obnoxious tourist crowds of Lafayette. There isn't the snobbery you can encounter at Printemps or Bon Marche. You can buy a toilet seat here. And underwear. And literally anything and everything for your home from sheets and towels, to furniture and bathroom cabinets. I scored a lovely scarf - the pattern is gorgeous and if you look closely there are some "surprises". Definitely something you won't be seeing in the US! Service is kind as well - my friend bought a present for her husband and they wrapped it beautifully for her. If you are spending less than $175 (for tax refunds), show your passport or driving license to receive 10% off most items!

My intention was to get back to Gallerie Lafayette when I next visited Paris. But I ran out of time. Found ourselves near the Pompidou Center and while I was rueful that the days were drawing to an end....I looked up... and saw this magnificent frontage. And wondered... What the heck is a Le BHV Marais? Let me just take a peek..... Because you just never know. Well, well well. Le BHV Marais. You are no consolation prize. You are mighty fine edifice filled with fantastic items to keep me busy for a long, loong long time. Woo. Weeeeee. Oui! And even if they don't say it anymore and it is a cliche... "Oooo La. La" I just don't know where to start. Was it 5 or 6 floors? I never finished. I got caught in my favorite purgatory....art suppllies and stationary and pens. And then caught a whiff of the kitchen department. What a beautiful store. Clean exceptionally well lit and with so many items to just enjoy like a museum of items you can buy. Fantabulous. Magnificent. Superlatives that just pale to the quality and care this shopping experience offers. I could not find a flaw in the quality or content of wares. I cannot wait to finish the other floors, one day... one day. Gallerie LaFayette... I have met your worthy rival.

    Great price

This is a somewhat overlooked Department store if you are a tourist. Its not flashy like the other big ones but they have a great kitchen/dish-wear/gadgets floor. Some of my favorite thins are their linens, really beautiful and soft linen napkins and table cloths. Worth a stop if you are looking for home goods and gifts, its usually not very crowded, located in a easy to get to location and easy to get in and out of.

One the best department stores for interior decor! Large, lots of variety with many French brands. You can get EVERYTHING for your home here, no joke.

Time for some shopping! I actually came by to use their restroom and started shopping here for a bit. It's a big place and there are lots of things to buy. Good place to check out if you want to kill some time. Decor is pretty nice here too.

While malls die all over America, retail still thrives in Paris. Exhibit A: Galeries Lafayette Haussmann. I've been to this department store a number of times over the years, and I both enjoy it and fear how completely it can suck up precious vacation hours. It's a fantastic place to shop, with a ton of well curated inventory spread out across multiple floors in multiple buildings. The main building features that beautiful domed ceiling, which manages to catch me by surprise every time I walk in. I haven't had the opportunity to shop for my own clothes here in a long time, but I've gotten some really great stuff on the children's floor, and discovered the souvenir section on my last visit, where I picked up some cool Paris Metro toy trains and magnets. We did somehow get stuck at Galeries Lafayette for over two hours and ended up skipping Notre-Dame, which might have been a better place to spend our last afternoon in Paris. But it was sale season, and my kids look super cute in their heavily discounted Petit Bateau. Galeries Lafayette is busy and sometimes overwhelming, but it's a wonderful department store. I wish we had something like it back home. I'd much rather shop there than fall for targeted ads on Instagram.

It was perfect since Paris had record high temperatures and we could relax and lounge nearby here. High end shopping at its finest…read more To be honest, I wasn't even planning on coming in. I was merely along for my friend's ride. I dropped her off then walked over to the seine to get myself a crepe. I was minding my business when my friend started sending me pics of the bags she was looking at and trying to pick. She mentioned she was a little tipsy then asked me to pull up cos apparently the people were so nice. I finished my crepe and walked over. Unlike when I dropped off my friend and we had to wait outside, I was able to just walk in and tell security I already had an appointment. I found my friend sitting so I headed to her direction. I was immediately given a champagne. Alfa came over with a variety of fanny packs because that's exactly what I wanted. I had previously looked online and picked a couple styles that suited me. I didn't like the choices that were presented so we went to another area where more choices were displayed. I was given another champagne at this point. After some flip flopping, I decided on the style that was completely different from what I originally picked. The payment process was a breeze. After registering to their system, they verify some information then you're led to the corner to handle payment. Alfa walked us out with our bags after fully explaining the tax refund process. He was so nice and thorough and just all around pleasant. What I really appreciated is that they don't rush you. Alfa was very patient with me and not at all pushy. He waited for me to decide on what I wanted which is the same thing that happened to my friend who kept changing her mind. She made a point to tell me how patient he was with her since he kept going back to get more bags. I already know what I want to get next. See you guys in a few months.
