From that point on, a pleasant young man took over, which looked hopeful, and I ordered the only remaining entrée that fit my tastes, the entrecôte. It was unfortunately so riddled with fat that I had to carefully excise tiny strips of meat from the rest of the dish. I should have sent it back, or at least tried to, but I was just getting too tired (after trekking to an Olympic event and walking up and down Montmartre in hot weather) to protest, and it was getting late to find another place. My friend had the duck magret, which appeared to be fine. The desserts were more classic than innovative, but were also fine. At that point, the pleasant young server was seated with friends of his at another table, close to ours, having a cigarette while explaining his plan to study business administration abroad. Attracting his attention while he was on his smoking break and debating the respective merits of Chile vs. Argentina was clearly hopeless. He eventually came over, apologized, brought the check, and we were finally done with this very disappointing visit. I will certainly never go back, nor can I recommend this place to anyone.

I have been going to Schum almost once a week for the last 6 months, and usually for lunch. They always have selection of three a plats du jour. No matter what I've ordered, it was always good. Fish. Steak. Duck. All good and all nice portions. You will not walk out hungry. My favorite is that with the plat du jour, you can order a café (thé) gourmand (café or tea plus 3 mini desserts - usually come with a financier, a type of mousse, and a créme brulée). The cost for the main dish and dessert is 17€. Can't beat it. The main server/bartender is very nice and his helper/server is also cordial. I recommend that you come when they first start serving lunch, so you beat the crowd. Once the crowd is there, the service slows down quite a bit. So if you don't come early, be prepared to be there to stay at least 1,5 hours for lunch.

For lunch, we had the duck confit and the Lyon sausages (one of the day's specials). The waiter recommended a strong red wine to go with the duck and a lighter, younger chilled red to go with the sausages. He hit it spot on in terms of the pairing. Both main courses were simple and delicious. We ended our meal with wonderful house-made chocolate mousse. Having stumbled onto this little place on the last day of our week long trip in Paris, we were pleasantly surprised with our wonderful experience at Le Colibri. I was really disappointed we had just missed the service by 30 minutes but we decided to stay and order drinks anyways. After everything me and my friend had gone through to make our way to Paris the experience we had at L'escargot almost ALMOST made up for everything that had gone wrong. Me and my friend had a blast at this bar!! The bartenders spoke english and answered all our questions, they were extremely friendly and the drinks were cheap. The locals at this bar were so amazing as well. They did not speak fluent english but they did make an effort to speak to us and share their bar snacks with us. There was a group of locals celebrating a birthday party and they were dancing and were pulling people off their seats to dance with them. At one point in the night a group of other locals and tourist came in and the atmosphere in this bar got even more vibrant.
