It's one of those iconic buildings that just become part of the scenery of a city. Well, it turns out that it's a restaurant/lounge, and one of the "in" places to go for drinks after work. The decor reminded me of Brooklyn or the Meat Packing District in New York, with a lot of exposed cement and pipes across the ceiling. The building must have been a loading dock or something, and they've basically hollowed out the place, set up tables and a bar, and jacked up the value of the old building. The long hall is divided between a dining area and drinking area. An island bar runs across the center of the narrow hall in the drinking portion of the building, leaving very little room on each side. I tend to spend most of my time either pressed against the window or dodging passers-by trying to make it to the other end of the bar. It's crowded, I've heard the food is mediocre on its best days, it's pricey, the music gets really loud as the night progresses, and they have maybe two red wines on the menu. But there's something about walking across a bridge to get to a bar that sits in the center of a European river that I find appealing. There are also old ferris wheel cars that have been converted into tables in the terrace area. A good go-to place when you're gathering people from both sides of the river, as this is dead center!

They prepare everything fresh using high quality ingredients and are consistently good. The interior is sparsely decorated and diminutive but the focus is on the food. If you like beef, it is one of their specialties but frankly just about everything is good. Tonight I had tagliatelle with Morel mushrooms in a light cream sauce and the tarte tatin for dessert. Really delicious. Glad to see it is still in there and popular as ever. Reservations suggested but not required. Give it a try.

Food was not as good as I thought though (based on the good ratings on TripAdvisor). The steak I ordered was fine, the sauce was really good, but the vegetables were probably just straight-boiled without even getting shocked or anything, so all the them were just soggy and sad. Friend ordered French fries as the side and that was fine though. The smoked salmon salad I am pretty happy with. Besides, portion is pretty good and I was very full after the two courses and cannot squeeze in any dessert. Overall, a good sit-down place for an intimate, long dinner, won't be as great for fast eaters. BTW Geneva's food is not very good so this is not bad at all.

The chef came out to say hello at the end of the meal which is always a nice personal touch to a meal! She is truly a gem :) After dinner we went next door to the bar. Fabulous knowledgeable bartender with a great cocktail list! I love when I go to bars and have drinks I can't make at home and/or have drinks I've never had/seen before, this bar hit all the boxes!!! It sticks in my mind because some girl decided that she didn't want to hang around with her mum any more, and wanted to hang around me, and the fact that my French is pretty bad didn't really disuade her. Anyway, yeah, it's a pretty nice pub with good service and decent beers, which I definitely appreciate.
