(Review of dinner service at the * restaurant at this hotel, La Table de l'Ours)…read more The chef's tasting menu here at La Table de l'Ours is a Michelin-endorsed spectacle. Each course is better than the next and we all felt that the arctic char was a special achievement: a large portion that still "belonged" in a fine dining lineup. Everything from the seats to the plates was commendable. Only complaint was that dinner was painfully long. Nearly 4 hours passed between walking in and walking out of the restaurant. Really had us wishing they offered 5:30 PM reservations in Europe.

Staff are friendly and full of helpful information. Breakfast, le petit dejeuner, is included in your room fare. The breakfast is amazing - it included sourdough bread, three kinds of cheese, cheesey scrambled eggs (the best I've ever had), pork sausAges, ham, 9 kinds of jam, cereal, yoghurt, milk, potable coffee, croissants, and pain during chocolat. The room is big enough and includes a massive wardrobe, a large desk, lamps, a bathroom with a massive bathtub, amazing toiletries, and hot enough water for a long bath or shower. Really good since it is freezing outside. :) I also dined at the bistro and the selection of food is amazing and reasonably priced. Plus if you're staying at the hotel you get a 15 percent discount. I ordered the la potage with sausages and chunky veggies like potatoes, carrots, and sweet onion. The soup arrived with three pieces of delicious sourdough bread. The soup was flavoursome and the sausage deliciously salty, succulent and flavoured. I got it for around 10euros.

Beauregard
Could hardly ask for a better stay!…read more Hotel Beauregard has a great location in the upper part of the village of La Clusaz. Right next to the lift Bossonnet it is optimal for skiing: ski-in & ski-out is such a comfort. After a long day out at the mountains, it is lovely to come to the hotel, and go to relax in the sauna or jacuzzi. The lounge is super cozy: fire making calm sounds, afternoon beverages and snacks served, nice sofas and armchairs, magazines to read. Atmosphere is warm. Rooms are nice and clean, especially bathrooms are very fresh. Big balcony towards the village offers nice views. Staff is friendly and speaks good English as well (which cannot be taken for granted in France!). The restaurant was one of the best parts. Food is delicious, and personal super friendly and welcoming. They really want to make the customer happy. The location is perfect for skiing, but also great for exploring the village. There are multiple restaurants, cafeterias and shops in the village, a couple hunded meters from the hotel. The center of the village is also very close, about a 5min walk away. A supermarket is very close as well. If you want to have a great stay at La Clusaz, I totally recommend choosing Beauregard!

The elevator was down at night so we did have to schlep a little to get to the 2nd floor. The hotel is at about 2,000 ft so only mildly out of breath. Hotel is situated at the base of the mountain outside of the official ski villages of Meribel Mottarette which are higher up, approximately another 6 miles drive. You feel a little bit like a rat in a maze searching for your room as the hotel has many corridors that are separated by different doors. I suppose it's a way to keep corridors insulated from the winter cold. In any case, we found our room, which had separate doors to the bathroom shower and bathroom toilette (also interesting). The staff is incredibly attentive and accommodating, the rooms, while small, are comfortable and clean. The bathroom is relatively spacious and warm. I had the relief menu at Le Saint Nicolas downstairs the night I arrived. It was a special, memorable meal. The chef creates food that is inventive and beautifully presented and technically complex and also, somehow, comforting. The wine pairings from the sommelier are also excellent. This particular menu was an homage to the region - it celebrated the local produce and people. For example, the tea that is served as a palate cleanser is made of herbs harvested low in the mountains, a task traditionally carried out by old ladies in the region who cannot reach the herbs higher in the mountain that are used for génépi. It was earthy and layered and satisfying. I was pleasantly surprised, the next night, to find that the food at the bar upstairs, while more casual, is also outstanding. The chef's burger with Gruyère is the best burger I have ever had in my life. I cannot recommend au coin du feu enough. If you are thinking about staying there, do it. I have stayed in much more expensive hotels in Megève, and this one is my favorite. While the hotel does not have a jacuzzi or a pool, the service, food, and general environment (calm, cozy, and warm) is better than the larger, more expensive hotels.
