In Mannheim, where many pretzel (or brezel) stands and döner places exist around the shopping area, a pleasant surprise is found, tucked inside a department store Engelhorn. Le Corange (suggestively meaning Engelhorn in French) is located on the top floor of the department store. The space is split into a duplex with the downstairs being the bar and lounge area and the upstairs being the dining room. The maitre d' was polite and attentive. The view was nice with the Neckar River in front of us, and the dining area was quite romantic with dim lighting and lit candles. Even though I didn't use it I know they do have an English menu at the restaurant.
I got the grilled shrimp with vegetables appetizer, which was nice. The shrimps were big and juicy, and I have no complaints about the assorted vegetables especially with shiitake mushrooms in the blend. Bf had the menu of the day with a smoked salmon quiche appetizer, a Zanderrücken (pikeperch fish) entree with sauerkraut, and a creme tartlet with mango and kiwi. The entire meal was good, but overall the price of the meal was probably a tad higher than the overall worth of the meal? Perhaps we are paying extras for the view and the location. read more
