Made a reservation for 8 on a Monday night. The main restaurant is a big "cave" (cellar) in a typical Toulousain style, though you wouldn't know it from seeing the storefront. They also have a seating area outside on the main street, which is where we originally sat before realizing how cramped and loud it was, so we moved inside where it was very quiet and intimate. They had some portable air conditioners going, because otherwise the air in there would have likely been unbearable. I don't want to know what it's like with a bigger crowd.
The main issue here was service. They had one guy serving ALL the tables, both inside and outside. I know Mondays are generally light, but it didn't seem like an exceptionally large crowd either. The result, though, was that the waiter was on speed, running about, and if you didn't have your order ready, he'd run off and come back 10 minutes later. Forget about having your water refilled or ordering another glass of wine. The service was rushed and made you feel cheap. He treated every other table with the same brevity.
The food was a little better. The salad de gesiers (gizzard salad) was one of the best I've ever had. The cuisse de canard was pretty ok, with a crispy outside and juicy inside. My husband's dishes were bigger misfires, because they were all boring. A humdrum foie gras and an uninspired slab of salmon in a light cream sauce. We didn't even bother with dessert, because the options were all mainstream things that could have been mass-produced, like chocolat fondant. Highly disappointed. read more
