Ever had one of those mornings where you wake up with a blistering post-wedding hangover, need to travel across the country on a non-private flight, but still have two hours to spend with your besties at brunch...then this is the place for you! While probably overpriced, you really can't beat the value. Our server was great and put me onto a dish made for a mushroom lover. Bok C had the croque madam (not monsieur), but Swiss C was a little disappointed she couldn't get her's with Mornay sauce...still not sure how she didn't order the smoked eel. Pretty expensive for a middle of the road experience. We arrived at 6 PM on a Thursday for cocktails and then dinner. Great atmosphere, friendly and attentive wait staff. Cocktails were small in proportion but very tasty. Food was WAY over-salted from start to finish. That can probably be remedied if you ask the waiter to have the chef go easy on the salt with every dish. Waldorf Salad was non traditional, with no lettuce, but the fresh celery gave it a nice crunch and it had good flavor profile. Roasted chicken was tender and juicy inside - the skin was perfectly browned and crackling. Omelette was perfectly cooked (but way too salty); the frittes were crunchy and perfectly a nearby table of parents almost ruined the atmosphere for failing to control their squealing infants and toddlers in strollers. Why would a people be this inconsiderate? If you're spending $65+ per person for a meal then you should be able to afford a babysitter. Or if you're visiting from out of town and don't feel comfortable getting a sitter - one of the parents should have the courtesy to take the kids outside for just a bit, until they calm down. read more

Went for the first time last night for dinner. Was definitely blown away- perfect experience in every way! To start, the hostess was just wonderful. Bar was full (we arrived early so we could enjoy some pre dinner cocktails before our reservation) so she offered to put in a cocktail order so we could enjoy in the lounge- she was lovely and those cocktails excellent. Once we sat for dinner I was quickly impressed with the beauty of the dining room. Great space and so well designed. We had a mix of items throughout the night- everything was very incredible. Scallops and shrimp cocktail were the perfect start with some champagne. Next I fell in love with the leeks - forgot what it was called but with hazelnuts. Wow so unique and incredible. Escargot were amazing. For mains my favorite was the Tilefish with Spring Ragù and Sauce Chartreuse. Just a perfect dish! We did the Profiteroles for dessert and yes they were sooo good! Can't wait to return- thank you to the staff for such a great experience. Well done! read more

Overall very good dining experience. We got the steak tar tar and escargot to start. The tar tar was very fresh and flavorful. Only downside is that it was so flavorful I lost any taste of beef- that can be a good thing or bad thing depending on your tastes, but I generally like a bit more subtle outside flavors so I can still taste the meat. The escargot was also really good but a bit too much fennel for my taste- but if you love fennel then this will be perfect for you! For entree I got the duck which was delicious! Perfect fatty meat with a fruity-ish sauce which balanced the dish perfectly. Cleaned the plate. Maybe skin could have been a bit crispier but otherwise phenomenal meal. Banana date pudding for dessert. Cake was a little on the dry side but the sauce was able to help with that so I still very much enjoyed. My friend got the steak and said she loved it. I had the misfortune of inviting my friend out to Le Crocodile for dinner on my last week of a month long visit to nyc. Because I was staying in a hotel I was eating out daily, and this pretentious restaurant happened to be around the corner so I visited it on 3 occasions prior all whilst dining at the side walk cafe. The good, the bad and the ugly: Good social distancing of tables, staff wearing masks at all times, sanitizing tables between guests, utensils and paper menus all making one feel safer. However after tonight, Im basically realizing that's all that the place has to offer and for the price it's not just mediocre food it's also extremely inconsistent service and food bordering on quite awful. I was so embarrassed to have picked this place and was also speechless when the server asked me when I'm coming back to dine again and said to my friend good job at that chicken, which I felt was weird- when handing me the check (while hovering over me and clearing the plates) right after I expressed how inedible the meal was. I sat there gobsmacked wondering whether it was either the server who wasn't attentive ( definitely) or the chef is erratic ( could also be true). Our ordeal began when I arrived for my 9:15 reservation we weren't seated till a half hour or more later and my request for a particular table despite being fully aware of this request well before time- it wasn't honored despite the fact that it was for health and safety reasons tonight since I was just a day to myself surgical procedure. The hostess completely brushed off this request when I arrived and I wasn't even requesting their garden dining which is most popular spot. since I had dined prior and found the food so salty it tasted bitter on two occasions that I asked for them to go easy on the salt, but not to have no salt or flavor just not to over salt it like the last time I dined there. Unbelievably our entree arrived a good half hour later - we had only ordered one dish, so expected it sooner and other tables that arrived at same time were seated sooner and served the chicken sooner too. The only saving grace for chicken is its huge unless you're famished you'd need another person to help finish it. My friend was really hungry so he ate his portion because at this point of the night all other restaurants in area would have their kitchens closed so he did make the best of it by adding salt manually to his food. Did I forget to mention a very weird runny broth like sauce to the completely bland and what felt to me was undercooked chicken and no idea if it was even natural since the texture and taste was so bad ( or basically no taste like tough robbery boiled chicken) Even the fries were unsalted but otherwise fresh and crispy. It was probably one of the worst chicken entree Ive eaten for a 34 usd price tag. It was so bad I couldn't finish my portion and even as I asked it to be cooked to temp and through it came as it did. The worst was the server didn't even check in after food arrived if it was ok, till another half hour later. Gave us share plates that were too small to eat chicken in. And even when I stated how bad it was no offer was made to fix this and not let us go home with this terrible experience. To be honest, the first time I dined here I tried the skate frites and it was really great and me and my friend enjoyed it so much I came back again for that dish alone. However my second dining experience on that occasion was poor but I could see the server was attentive and tried her best even as the kitchen seemed to have completely messed up the flavors when I asked to modify heat factor as it's quite spicy. I've never had to ask the chef where i've dined to modify the taste of the dish, At Le crocodile they can't even get the seasoning right and are so inconsistent with service and basic hospitality etiquette. And i'm praying I don't get food poisoning from the chicken a day before my surgery given how rubbery it was and not even cooked in the herbs and was presented without flavor. Anyway bottom line: If you'd like to just find a safer place to dine out with friends and ok with bad tasting, undercooked or mediocre food- at grand prices then by all means dine at this restaurant. The service could either be appalling or you could get a lucky break the first time and have an attentive server but at this price one could have an exceptional meal at Jean George' in manhattan not on a noisy sidewalk. Yes I forgot to mention at night it's terrible the noise as fast cars pass by. Overall such a terrible dining experience that this is the first time i'm writing a yelp review. read more

Incredibly personable service. Kind and engaging. While the meal was wonderful and fun quality varied. Escargot had a delicious sauce but the croutons plus sides of delicious chewy bread meant too much bread. Pickled mussels were delicious but the sauce was not attractive- a bit metallic. Best dish was superb frisée salad with delicious eel and poached egg. Also a good sized portion. Duck with kumquat was mixed. The skin was fruity and delicious but the meat was a bit bland. Tarte tatin was excellent, with a layer of salt on the perfect crust that highlighted the fruit and ice cream flavors. But the rhubarb zablione fell short. Perhaps the rhubarb should have been served on top with on more binding element. One of the best martinis O have ever had. The trick is to put together the best elements and turn it into a meal totally worth the special event sized bill. read more

It is so nice to find a place in the age of covid that is so on their game. Everything from the food to the service to the atmosphere is so appealing and then you factor in the cost and you have a grand slam. Everything we had from the jonah crab salad, steak tartar, onion soup, cod and desserts were all delicious and would easily order again. Plus Devon, our waiter was wonderful as was the rest of the service. Honestly, I have nothing bad to say other than I wish it was in my neighborhood. Bravo Team Le Crocodile. read more

One of my favorite new restaurants and incredible meal. Chicken, onion soup, escargot, and the banana pudding were my favorite but every dish I tried was fantastic. Came here after a long day visiting thrift stores and record shops in the area. We ate inside and were pleasantly surprised by how distanced the tables were bc of Covid. It gave me peace of mind eating inside with my son. The food is awesome. My husband son and I split the escargots (didn't tell my 10 year old what it was until after he said he loved it)--they were delightful! Then we had the orzo, the chicken, and the pork chop. Honestly each dish was delicious but the chicken was the star of the show! We then each ordered a dessert and shared. The banana date pudding was the favorite of the night. The service was gracious and helpful. Will definitely recommend to others. read more

I think the majority of the food and cocktails at Le Crocodile are excellent. I've really enjoyed every meal here, about 6 visits so far! The ambience is fantastic and they have a wonderful pandemic setup going. The service is solid, sometimes attentive and warm and sometimes just ok - but I have yet to have an issue worth complaining about. It can be a bit annoying to get a table so I wish that would improve. read more

Brand new place in what used to be Reynard's. Great smaller-plate yet classic French fare, with amazing service and very good food that's not an afterthought in its hotel/glam surroundings. While plates run smallish, they are very flavorful, expertly executed, and priced so that you can make a full meal while sampling a variety of items. I'm also grateful that this place has a tight one-sided food menu; it gives the place room to do what it does very well. Steak tartare was done in a fresh and interesting fashion with the addition of citrus rind, and was served with prior Reynard supplier's She-Wolf bread. Leeks and nuts were also great; boudin blanc is made in house and also really good. Fries were a surprisingly delicious sleeper item on the menu; this must be the last place in the 5 boros that still uses peanut oil to fry them. Cocktail menu is similarly curated, tight, and well-done. read more

The staff and owndership at Le Crocodile are amazing. They went above and beyond during Covid, at a time when restaurants were having their own trouble, Le Croc delivered lunch every day to local hospitals. Every one of them was amazing, delicious, and free for the doctors working through the pandemic. The restaurant itself is incredible, but they people behind it are true heroes and stars. read more

Great food- roasted chicken with French fries is fantastic. Nice ambience on outdoor patio. The profiteroles were also incredible.

Underwhelming experience. First of all, why mess with Cacio e Pepe even if you think it's a good idea? Orzo simply cannot deliver the tasting experience spaghetti can to a properly made Cacio e Pepe. It's hard enough to make a great Cacio e Pepe. Its like putting Orzo in red sauce or substituting beyond meat for a ribeye - just please stop. Which brings me to the Steak au Poivre. The classic and proper preparation of Steak au Poivre should have the sauce as a compliment to the steak, not responsible for its drowning. The bauvette cut of steak was tasteless and unnecessarily chewy. Then it was literally drowned in au Poivre sauce. I could have been eating steak or tripe and would not have known the difference because all I could taste was the sauce. Took two bites and pushed my plate away - complete waste and should be removed from menu. As I am sitting at the table hungry, I dug into my friends roasted chicken which was fantastic. The Escargot & Steak Tartare was just OK. Which brings me to my last observation which was the Country Pate with Foie Gras. It was like eating the color Taupe. Nothing. Forgetful. Tasteless. Sad. Total waste of menu space considering how this is an option that should shine on a menu for its richness and complexity. Sorry but I really don't know why everyone thinks this place is great. read more

A few weeks back I had the opportunity to stroll into Le Crocodile. The service was great. The chicken on their menu was absolutely perfect. Omg I still reminisce about the flavors. The skin was thin and crisp and the gravy made everything else taste so flavorful. I rolled every piece of food I had in that gravy. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. This is our (with my husband) second visit to Le Crocodile, and it was their first night reopening after closing since Dec. Another amazing experience - from the beautiful dining room space, safety precautions, exceptional staff (very professional but friendly and warm), and great food. We had the leeks and mushroom pâté to start - leeks were good especially with the hazelnuts, the mushroom pâté was surprisingly amazing. I typically go for the standard kind and was afraid this version would be uninteresting, but it was actually very good (as good as the country pâté which we had in our previous visit). The duck was also good, though not amazing, but it went perfectly with the squash tagine which WAS amazing. My husband is not usually a veggie person and he really enjoyed this. For dessert we had the apple tarte tatin and hazelnut ice cream - both excellent. Definitely one of my favorite dining experiences in NYC. Already can't wait to come back. read more
