    Tomato cheese fondue and potatoes.

We took the cable car ride to the beautiful alps. After the ride and discovering the small streets of chamonix we were very hungry and we reached this restaurant which is surrounded by the beautiful mountain view and imagine a small town with small streets and small stores. Beautiful. We had the tomato cheese fondue and potatoes, cheese ravioli and the famous creme brulee (I regret not finishing it all that night). It was my first time with the fondue and I must say I loved eating hot melting cheese with tomato flavor on boiled potatoes. It was delicious and we were more than satisfied with the food and the service.

Wow!! Was perfect for what i wanted- a gorgeous view of L'Aiguille du Midi and Mont Blanc, superb food, outside seating, and the boss and staff were fast, efficient, and grateful/friendly. No crowds or tourist traffic, quiet and peaceful. Tucked away with the outside mostly hidden by bushes, but not so high they blocked the extraordinary view. I had the filet with mushrooms and it was really good, although next time, I think I would just have the steak by itself, as the sauce was a little bit too creamy and overpowered the steak flavor a little bit. The Fraise Melba (strawberries, vanilla ice cream, real whipped cream, and a cookie) would've brought me here again and again, on it's own! Prices not bad, although hey, it IS Chamonix. A must-see restaurant/café with an exquisite view!

The restaurant is in an excellent location, offering an astonishing view of the mountain range. We really enjoyed getting to sit outside and take in these views with our meal! The atmosphere is also amazing and I loved the interior of the restaurant. It has a chic chalet style to it which provides for a lovely, slightly romantic ambiance. I thought the service was great as well. Our server spoke good English and was able to explain the menu to us. Food comes out freshly prepared in a timely manner too. I will say the prices are a little bit higher, but I think that is a reflection of the touristy nature of the area, along with Le Monchu's use of high quality ingredients and large portions. I ended up starting with the Sarti Spritz--which was excellent, a little pricey, but strong with good flavor. My friends ended up ordering the gazpacho and French onion soup and thoroughly enjoyed it! For our mains, we ended up splitting 2 fondues between the 4 of us. My one friend and I had to try the Wood-Fired Raclette cheese that was served with charcuterie and potatoes. This was a whole experience as the cheese is served with a wood-fired burner and you are meant to shave the melted cheese off to accompany the accoutrements. The cheese had a deeper, sharper flavor than traditional fondue, but was HEAVENLY. I have no complaints about this and was very happy with it overall--would recommend. My other two friends ordered the Savoyarde Traditionnelle Fondue which included garlic & white wine, accompanied by charcuterie and diced bread. This was more of your standard fondue served in a large melting pot. The flavors of this fondue were different from the Raclette, but also very good. The portion was huge and we struggled to finish it. Overall, Le Monchu was an excellent choice for lunch while visiting Chamonix. The atmosphere was everything, the service was great, and food was absolutely amazing! While the prices are definitely higher, it is definitely worth it. The food has so much flavor and the portions are very generous. I was extremely impressed with the overall experience and would highly recommend eating here for a memorable meal!

Looking around, this lack of service seemed to be the case with many others as well. The food was mediocre at best. This is a highly overpriced tourist trap with negligent staff. It's such a shame because we had such a great meal with wonderful service the previous night but this experience left a sour taste. I would strongly recommend trying someplace else in fact just about any place else.

Here are a few few things we noticed: - When I made the reservation, I had seen a picture in Yelp that made it look like the outdoor seating was in a front patio but beware because that is the patio of another restaurant and the entrance to Atmosphere is next to it. While it was comfortable inside, specify the outdoor Terrace if at all possible because that is along the river and is very beautiful. - My wife ordered from one of the two fixed price menus, but I decided to order à la carte, which is definitely more expensive. - My wife started with the Alpine salad, which was very delicious. I got the French onion soup, which is supposedly one of their specialties, but I just found it average. - For a main courses, I got the beef tenderloin with seared fois gras... it was amazingly! My wife got the hotbox cheese and liked it well enough. - For her, the highlight of the meal was probably the blueberry tartlet. I got a trio of sorbets which were also very fresh and good. - Service was very very good. And the atmosphere is cozy and warm inside. Bottom line: Dining at Atmosphere was a great way to start our vacation!

It has a locals vibe and is always packed at dinner time. The restaurant isn't fancy -- plenty of people in mountain casual attire; but the food is outstanding! We came here 2x on our trip, after a couple fabulous meals in Chamonix. Pricing isn't cheap-- we spent €100 for two both nights, with one shared appetizer, bottle of wine, and two entrees. That said the food was excellent. We had (over two nights): 1. Fondue with Mushrooms: a dream come true. We ordered one serving, for both of us to share, both nights. Creamy, warming, and dreamy. A must. 2. Lamb Tenderloins: gamey with bone in. My husband loved it. 3. Filet with mushrooms: reasonable portion in a delicious creamy mushroom sauce. Savory and filling. 4. Salmon entree: omg. This dish is amazing. Best salmon with anchovy butter. Ever. Licked the plate clean both nights. Tender, crispy, and flavorful. Absolutely dreamy.

I've been there many times in years, and it has always been a wonderful experience. The menu is typical from this region: raclette, fondue, tartiflette, croutes, salads... perfect food to recover from a long day of skiing / hiking /climbing. The wine list is also worth trying. Service has always been perfect, and the atmosphere is so nice: one wall is entirely painted with the Mont Blanc. Beautiful! The room is small though, so I suggest you book up a table.
