Found it pretty hard to find any cuisine that might qualify in my book but this place seemed promising. Indeed it was the right spot! The personnel I encountered all spoke French and the menu had decidedly French dishes, including one of the best tests of good French cooking, boeuf bourguignon! The bread basket brought to the table was the first sign of real French style and proper goodness. The entree was delicious and the creamy mashed potatoes, while perhaps not considered traditional by many, were well made and I say bravo! The music astounded me because it was live and very good! Two older gentleman playing saxophone or trumpet and keyboard doing covers of Sinatra and the like. Made for great atmosphere. Was it the best French I've ever had? No, but it was a fine alternative to Italian if the desire comes your way, too.

Honestly, this was probably the best aperitivo restaurant we've been to during our stay in Rome! For only €10, we had our one drink each, three selections of nuts with one being candied (that was delicious), and a huge platter of various finger foods including a small plate of pasta (peep at pic). WHAT. A. STEAL. The fact that our table held the drinks and plates really shows how much we received. The drinks were huge! It was strong enough to make both me and mom flush with our Asian glow. A good buzz for us both. We both got their Aperol Spritz, and my boyfriend got their Limoncello. The eats were delicious! There were 6 different bites and a delicious plate of red sauce gnocchi. I can only speak English and a smattering of French. The merchants at Il Gianfornaio spoke English better than me. That was embarrassing.
