We have two small children, one of whom is a picky eater. After reviewing the menu and discovering that there were no traditional children's items, we were going to leave but the waitress took the time to ask what the kids would normally eat. When we mentioned chicken fingers, she said it would be no problem. The chef made the kids chicken fingers by cutting up a chicken breast and breading it. The kids loved it. The menu is heavily influenced by Acadian cooking. My wife had the chicken fricot, which is a chicken and dumplings stew. It was excellent as were the clams and chips I had. In fact, they were the best fried clams I've ever had. The portiions are large - so large that I ate the clams and could only eat a few fries despite the fact they were home-made and delicious. If you are ever in the Bouctouche area, I highly recommend you give this place a try.

However, the treatment we received from Mel at the Maplegrove Inn was the most irrational and disrespectful lodging experience I have ever had. My friend booked the room. On the day of arrival, I called ahead to ask for dinner recommendations since we were arriving at 7:30 PM and local spots closed at 8 PM. Mel answered and immediately became hostile about us missing the 7 PM check-in cut-off. I politely offered to have her leave a key under a rock, but she refused, aggressively stating they must meet every guest. She grudgingly agreed to stay until 7:30 PM. To save time, my friend dropped me off at a nearby restaurant to grab food (I was 6 months pregnant & hungry) and went ahead to check in. When Mel realized I wasn't at the check-in, she became livid. When my friend explained I was grabbing food because I was pregnant, Mel snapped, "Stay somewhere else, I'll just refund you." This was an incredibly stressful and unsafe situation on a peak summer Sat night in a tiny town with no other lodging options available. My friend returned to pick me up, and we assessed our options. Finding nowhere else to stay, we reluctantly returned to the Maplegrove. I swallowed my pride, walked in with a smile, and introduced myself. Mel had cooled off, offered a brief apology, said she'd thought I was being "entitled and inconsiderate" of her business hours, and handed us over to Kate, who was lovely and settled us in. The rest of our one-night stay was physically comfortable, but entirely ruined by the extreme stress of the arrival. For Management: my friend got 1 confirmation email sent to us two months prior, which buries the 3-7 PM check-in time without highlighting it (see screenshot). It also instructs guests to call if they need alternate accommodations--which we did, only to be met with hostility and an attempted eviction. While Kate was professional, I cannot recommend the Maplegrove Inn. Your stay is entirely at the mercy of highly mercurial innkeeper Mel.

Sonya was fine with us checking in early, a request I made via email. Her home is very clean and spacious. While she collects antiques, there was nothing old and stuffy about the decor. A nice common area with a drink fridge was a good touch. Our room, the Silver Maple was very comfortable with a queen bed and a twin bed. I slept well even though the mattress was a bit stiff. I am not always a fan of the claw-foot tub because it can be awkward, but ours was outfitted with a nice shower curtain and a shelf for soaps. Hot water was in abundance as well as water pressure. The bath had a fan and was newly redone. All in all very, very nice. No air conditioning, but not needed when we were there. A fan was provided and that worked just fine. Breakfast choices were fairly extensive, but I chose a light breakfast which was essentially granola and yogurt with fruit. The fruit was deliciously fresh, very good variety. My mother chose a somewhat pedestrian vacationer's breakfast which was eggs and bacon. I think I would have opted for the strawberry french toast or the intriguing fruit omelet, but I was trying to 'be good.' The Maple Grove Inn is located a in the small but very quaint historic village of Riverside-Albert. Sonya is a first-time innkeeper and you would never know it! I can't believe they just opened. I am sure it will only continue to evolve and grow, but it was perfect as it was. Go and support Sonya and Jeff in their new venture.

The parlor has a piano, fireplace, a couple of sofas and chairs, and a collection of antiques and, well, lots of old stuff. Actually, the entire mansion is decorated with antiques, chandeliers, and other historic items. Each of the rooms are a bit different, of course, the "governors room" is the best. We were the only guests in the house so we peeked into the other rooms. It's not exactly close to anything town related, so don't expect to walk anywhere for dinner or shopping. They also have a second floor deck that has been enclosed and converted into a library that is ideal for sitting and viewing the river. It's probably not the cheapest place in town but it is definitely unique. You can stay here and save a few dollars a person by opting out of breakfast. That's what we did so we cannot attest to the quality of the breakfast. However, the eating area is quite nice. The wifi works well except in the room we stayed in (the Fronsac room), probably because it is located in the back of the mansion. Beds were comfortable, rooms were nice, and the bathrooms were clean. The host was polite and had a vast knowledge of the mansion and area's history of you're interested.

Someone arrives twice a day and keeps the fire going in the shed to heat the inn (there are pipes underground that go under the parking lot and into the inn). Apparently it is really cost-efficient. The tub was deep and comfy. The bed was comfy. WIFI, parking and a continental breakfast (cereal and bread) were included in the cost of the room. My room had a microwave and a mini fridge. I would stay here again if I needed to spend a night again in Bouctouche.
