Lovely restaurant close to the Denfert-Rochereau metro station. Plenty of seating outside with a little shade and great area for people watching :) The vegetarian pizza was delicious with a light and airy dough and interesting toppings including zucchini and aubergines. Lots of drink options - I got the peach spritz and it was just perfect for a warm day and felt refreshing after a long walk. Going out with kids in tow you can't be too choosey when they are hungry, especially when you are foodie. It it involves A LOT of compromise. Went to this place because it was across the street from the catacombs and had decent reviews. I was very pleased with my food. We got the chèvre pizza with honey, linguine special, a burger and the confit de canard (duck confit). They have a regular menu and a special menu you can find written on the chalkboard. For the price point, you get a lot of delicious food. I had the duck and it came with green beans, salad, zucchini squash with cheese, a fancy hash brown, roasted tomatoes, and duck leg, of course. It was not heavy, and I was able to finish it all without unbuckling my pants! The staff was super friendly and spoke moderate enough english to tolerate our terrible french. D'awww, no lunch specials on Sunday. Oh well, that's the policy anywhere. Lunch specials were about 20 euros for a starter and main, or main and dessert, I believe. My friend and I came here hoping to go to the catacombs, but since it was closed without an explanation (maybe because January is an off-tourist month), we decided to get some lunch. My friend started off with the mille feuille legumes, which was like roasted vegetables in a warm cream that was molded together. My friend loved it so much, she got a bit defensive when I wanted to try a bit. I had the Clafoutis Chevre, which was a warmed batter pudding with goats cheese, smoked duck and sundried tomatoes. I've never had anything quite like it in my life and it certainly is one of the dishes I will crave from Paris. Imagine a savory creme brulee. That's what it was like. Goats cheese was perfectly smooth amongst the smoked duck (salted a bit heavily, but smoked perfectly. Mind you, this is one of the hardest things to do since you can oversmoke it). The sundried tomatoes were one of the best I've had and I had some in Italy. The flavors were not too overpowering and just right. Simply one of the best dishes I've had and I'm glad we found this brasserie at this point. My friend had the steak tartare italienne, with a nice pesto sauce and diced onions and I believe capers were involved. Very delicate and excellent bite, but after her appetizer, she was already pretty full. Came with a side of fries and salad, which were both nice. I had the entrecote grillee and it was a massive steak with perfect pieces of fat on some of the edges. OH.MAI.GAWD. I love the fatty pieces. So bad, but it tastes so good... this was excellently cooked. One of the best steaks I've ever had and I don't usually order it. I had it medium (a pointe) and it was juicy and flavorful. Perfectly seared so I had a crisp outer layer and excellent meat inside. A bit chewy but that's the name of the game. It came with sea salt on the side and bernaise sauce, but the steak was excellent with just a touch of sea salt or just plain. Bernaise sauce was excellent though. The best part was having these perfectly grilled tomatoes that bled such sweet juices that went excellently with my steak. The au gratin potatoes were nicely done but I was getting full. Service was good and the restrooms are down the spiral staircase. Overall, for two people, it was 50 Euros (my friend had tea for 4.20 Euro) and we left extremely full. Loved the taste. I think I'll be back when the catacombs open on my next trip to Paris. read more

Wow! Finally a restaurant with food worth writing about! Based on the waiter's recommendation on deciding what to order. I may add the service here was actually good. Overall the Parisians overall are hospitable. Do not listen to people's speculation. We both had the Salade de Cavatappi, Greek salad on a hot day, 80 degree weather. The salad was cold and refreshing. The feta cheese in the salad was spectacular. The Cavatappi (pasta) perfect al dente. Cherry tomatoes, bell pepper, & red onion nice & crunchy. The only down fall, the olives were a bit bland. Overall this place knows their food! May I add the ambience is awesome! Great seating! read more

after we went to the catacombs we were looking for somewhere to eat that is on our way to the metro. Service is great, the place is very calm and rustic like with red furnishings and mellow music We ordered three dishes and expressos. The food was good but it is mediocre. There wasn't much depth to the dishes but the portions were okay. We shared three dishes, both steaks lacked flavor and were a bit past well done. Meh read more

We are here on a whim yesterday evening, and it is fantastic. The food is solid, the ambience cozy and not too noisy.

I suppose anything would have tasted good after walking through two hours of corpses in the Catacombs, but this place definitely hit the spot. Atmosphere: After being crammed in the dark, dank catacombs, we wanted something with a tad more space, and Lakanal definitely offered that. It's a corner spot with open air seating as well as a bar and with tables for groups. the seats are a lush red, the wood dark, the chandeliers elegant and a little bit funky. No crystal, but smooth looping silver curls with lights. Our group of two didn't feel out of place and it would be easy to get a larger group of 6 or more in there at one of the tables on the floor. It's classy but a little funky, like a vastly cooler and more elegant Rose and Firkin. The Food: We went lavish, likely because of our recent proximity to so much death. We ordered an assorted cheese platter, a vegetable plate, two espressos and a very nice Bordeaux for me. The cheese had two bries, a goat cheese, a swiss and a cheddar. The Parisians appear to favour brie cheeses rather than strong sharp cheddars, and this was no exception. The bread came on the side and was refilled twice by our excellent server. It was of course amazing bread, because even dinner rolls in Paris are awesome. This was a cut up baguette. The platter was also arranged gorgeously. The anglo translation of 'raw' vegetables wasn't really accurate. The plate came elegantly arranged with cold, cooked veggies: beets, corn, thinly sliced carrots, green beans, artichokes and peppers. Very little salt and coated in a light tasting oily vinaigrette. Delicious, though I would have preferred raw vegetables in principle. But whatever, on vacation! No nutrition! Espressos were perfect, natch. The Bordeaux was absolutely necessary to wash down the cheese and for under 4 E for a 2008? Hit me up with that! The Service: Our server was like a hummingbird, quick and efficient. He didn't speak much English but knew from our tired French that we were anglo. He quickly dropped the anglo menus our way, but wasn't unpleasant about it. Our food came quickly and he checked in on us as well, which I found to be unusual in most restos in Paris. The bill came in a cute little tin bucket, which we filled with his tip. Location: Right across from Denfert Rochereau station. You may assume because it is so close, it would be an overpriced joint, but we didn't find it so. It's location is part of the appeal and likely does good business for them. Overall, we loved the place and would definitely recommend it as a spot to enjoy Happy Hour or for a nice meal for a good price. Our sinfulness only came up to 23 E - so worth it! read more

I am rating this place on the coffee alone. I was waiting in line at the Catacombs , a very long line....and there are cafes all around but I decided on this one and its one of the best cups of coffee I had in Paris. NIce inside and a very good coffee machine :) read more

Great place to rendez-vous when meeting someone coming from The airport. I've not had coffee here but all the servers have been extremely pleasant. It gets a big crowd because it is across from the large metro station and across from the Catacombs. read more

Went there for a drink. One of the servers was very kind... The other one behave like an asshole. Nice place, a bit noisy. The drinks were normally priced. The chairs comfy.
