The food was your typical "American breakfast" of eggs, sausage, bacon, yogurt, fruit, etc plus a few more French Canadian options like croissants, pain au chocolat, charcuterie, and chia seed pudding. Hotel service was great! They came by every day, which is rare these days. The room provided a nespresso machine + pods and tea which they refilled every day, along with espresso cups, a water carafe, water glasses, and a refrigerator. My floor had a water station where you could get filtered water, ice, and more glasses if needed. Typically hotels make you go to the gym to get filtered water, so having it available on floor was really nice. I've stayed at a lot of Marriott hotels and this one ranks towards the top. Clean, not too fancy, practical with the drink service, decent food, and great location.

This hotel is somewhat centrally located to all the sites and sounds I want to visit during my trip to Montreal including Old Montreal, Chinatown, McGill and Saint Catherine. If you are mobile on foot, this isn't a bad place to setup camp. The staff was accommodating and the hotel was clean and modern. As a Marriott Bonvoy member with status there was a welcome plate of macarons and sliced fresh fruit when I checked in which was a really nice touch. There is also an onsite restaurant which makes great french toast too! Onsite self parking was north of $40 but included in and out which is nice. The parking spots were incredibly tight so if your not skilled best to leave parking to the experts onsite.

Hôtel Terrasse Royale checked those boxes. Located in the Côte des Neiges section of town, Hôtel Terrasse Royale's rooms are up-to-date, fresh, modern despite being a 50 year-old hotel, although the lobby is not large or fancy. We found their staff extremely friendly, plus they offer guest parking garage (for a nominal extra fee) and a number of other amenities useful if you are having more than a one night stay. (FYI - If you have a really extended stay, there is a laundry room in the basement.) We particularly took advantage of the kitchenette, stocked with plates, utensils, etc. They have different room classes, so check both Hôtel Terrasse Royale's site as well as other online travel serves, which provide a lower rate. Due to high demand when booking our trip, our first night ended up in a smaller, yet comfortable room. When changing to a larger suite for the weekend, we had a terrace with a view of the dome of St. Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal. Most importantly, the hotel's situated one block from the Côte-des-Neiges Metro and along a bus line that goes downtown. Beyond the many restaurants in the neighborhood and great bakery café next door, there are several 24 hour shopping options within only a block away: Metro supermarket, Pharmaprix drug store and a nice covered open air farmer's market. The only small issue may be the single guest elevator, which some may consider slow - although the hotel isn't that big. That being said, it's minor considering all the upsides Hôtel Terrasse Royale has to offer.

I reported him to the staff there and nothing was done because he kept doing it. They rip off other guests. Read the travel websites reviews! Their rooms are overpriced. If they gave me a room that was not satisfactory and I wanted another room I'd have to pay more. I've stayed many times so they should know what kind of room I like. They're just trying to get their greedy hands on more money. The maids use a smelly room spray and their cleaning products have a horrible chemical smell. A couple of times the cleaning staff walked into my room when I had a do not disturb sign on the door. They were probably trying to start a fight and upset me. (Valet Parking is $40 a day--there is no self-parking.) This hotel is in one of the best neighborhoods in Montreal--it's like the Beverly Hills of Montreal area. It's also next to McGill University and Parc du Mont-Royal--Montreal's Central Park. It's in a safe central walk-able area and we walked all over from here including down to the historic district and river front. Tons of high end shopping near here. I would unquestionably stay here again if in Montreal--in fact I would not look at any other hotels. The room and bed were so comfortable I could move in here. In fact, the bellman told me that some people do live here part of the year. We got a room on the 6th floor that faced the front entrance and it was so quiet. You will not hear anything when you are in the room because I understand that the structure was originally built to be a warehouse with lot's of concrete. It was not originally built to be a residence or hotel. The towels are mainly first class, and it was pretty clean. I did find an errant hair one time on the sheet at check-in and the carpet needed a shampoo but the room comfort made up for that. The bell staff mostly were very friendly, accommodating and helpful. From the moment you pull up--you will not have to lift anything. We called all hours of the evening and night for extra towels and things and they came in seconds. There is a restaurant in the hotel we did not have a chance to use with our busy schedule. We had to really push the woman at check-in to get the right room though. She was a bit tiffy with us... She had us set for a room next to the elevator we don't like--she wanted to stick us in there. When we returned to the lobby we asked for a better room location and she found a quiet room overlooking the front I loved. Interestingly, she said there was a room available that faced an apartment building where the residents like to disrobe with the curtains open that she tries not to assign. If I was traveling alone--that may have been a good one? LOL Maybe they should list that one as a special reservation class on the AAA website. "Room with a Special View--no children allowed." If you stay here, make sure to take a few hours to walk up the stairs to the park a few blocks away and mix with all the locals recreating there--I loved the stairs and that park. You can walk, run, or bike in there. The one thing in the room that plagued us that we have seen in other hotels at times that never gets fixed is the fancy glass shower flooding water onto the bathroom floor. After every shower the bathmat was soaked and in a pool of water. We had to push it aside and put a bath towel down that would get soaked in the next shower. The reason it never gets fixed in any of the rooms is because no one wants to report it during their stay because no one wants to change rooms or have a stranger in the room trying to fix it. And housekeeping does not take a shower so they don't know it's a problem. They think the clients forgot to close the shower door. The only way for the hotel to check it is for them to hire someone to take a 10 minute shower in each room. If you just run the shower it seems fine--it's only when the water bounces off your body and the glass shower door that it floods the bathroom. That would be an interesting job! Anyway, don't hesitate to stay here. Great choice. PS The Concierge here was the best of all--he really took the time to orient us. PS2 Everyone in the lobby spoke English provided that you started with "Bonjour."

The room was beautiful and everything worked. I don't know how many hotels I have visited recently where plumbing and electrical items didn't work. This one was great. The location is perfect too. Linens, bedding and towels are all high quality. There is a fitness room on the 17th floor which offers excellent city views through the large panoramic windows while you are working out on the well maintained machines. The hotel is located in a quiet area of downtown near McGill University. This was very convenient as it was only a 2 minute walk from the hotel to the McGill campus - a splendid place for our pup to do his business.

It is on the corner of a safe street, near other more high end hotels, and very convenient to McGill University, if that is important to you. Although the rooms are quite basic, they are functional and spacious. My parents used their kitchenette daily for simple snacks and meals, and I appreciated the refrigerator and coffee maker. The continental breakfast was not fancy, but consistent in its offerings: bread that you can toast (good), bagels (bad), hard boiled eggs, slices of ham and cheese, fruit (in varying states of ripeness), cereal, and coffee/tea/juice. We also utilized the sparse gym once; it is good for basic exercises with a stationary bike and elliptical machine and a few free weights, but it looked as though the two treadmills might be perpetually out of service. We also checked out the pool on the top level. It is VERY hard to find, but quite nice and great to give your kids something to do for a couple of hours. The coin laundry machines cost $3 each, so $6 to wash and dry a full load, and it only accepts $1 Canadian coins. Overall, the hotel served our needs well and we would recommend it, especially for families (young and older), or those prioritizing practicality over ambience.

So with that said, I have mixed reviews on different areas. The overall stays here are decent and I have been able to sleep without too much noise. The price is also good compared to many hotels so it has that going for it. For those I would give 4 stars for pricing and overall comfort. My particular room was a bit dated and didn't look like most of the Internet pictures and instead looked like a typical motel-6 or motel-8. The shower did have a disco affect which means it went hot and cold and hot and cold all on its own, cool! (Not) The service at the front desk was polite and very helpful and they also sell alcohol, snacks and there is a breakfast area too. The breakfast consists of cereals, bagels and breads and some juice or coffee. It's not a lot but it's free which is more than most motels ever offer. So, here is my rating. If I would have been offered a room like I saw online, 4 stars easy. However, since I feel a little like I was a bait and switch victim I am sticking with 3 stars. Enjoy!
