Besides the grounds, the best thing about Vernègues is the staff in all departments (including pre-check in) - very friendly and helpful. Other reviewers have said it: the setting is idyllic enough to make Le Moulin a 5-star resort, but the owners have decided it would be more profitable to position this as a 4-star hotel but charging 4-and-a-half-star prices. Room décor and amenities are definitely basic, like in a Holiday Inn, Mercure or Novotel. We stayed in a room in the new wing, yet there are stains on the carpet as mentioned by some visitors.The energy-saving, not-too-flexible aircon system was not working too well during the recent heat wave that hit France. The gym is rudimentary, but then perhaps most guests who come here don't bother about fitness. The swimming pool is set among beautiful, mature trees, yet it is not well cleaned: even with anti-fogging goggles, be careful not to hit other swimmers if your head is under water too long! We didn't have dinner, only breakfast; the terrace is beautiful and peaceful, whereas the low-ceiling inside is a bit claustrophobic (but charming - well, it is 'Les Voûtes'!)
