A (I guess) 30 year old waiter greeted and seated me in very reasonable English. I asked for a food and drink recommendation and he told me they serve excellent local duck and have excellent Argentinian Malbec. I said that I would try his suggestion. A free small starter was served. Couscous with tuna. Mmm, not great I thought. The main course disappointed too. I asked the table next to me (as I was alone) what they thought of the very same dish they were both eating. They said they ate duck 4 times in this town up to now and this was the best. However they agreed it still wasn't excellent. Free WiFi. After I asked, the waiter said the restaurant had opened recently, and the owner is the chef cook. He also said that they keep the prices the same all year round, where some other restaurants raise the prices during summer. I would say 4 stars but with the location definitely a 5 star restaurant anyway.

Others had the foie gras, pork and fish. All commented that the food was outstanding. Wine selection was very good as well. They have English menus and staff that speak decent English as well. Le Clos Saint Front did not come up with many reviews, and not on Yelp. The only reason we stopped…read morethere was that it was opened on a Sunday. And the rest was just magical. Chef Patrick Fuega is working the room to greet the customers and taking care of the more delicate or theatrical dishes (we had Brazilian beef cut with a sword in front of us, all with the reason why but you'll have to find out for yourself!). The menu is changing every 45 days but I had the "garden vegetables my way" and it summarizes perfectly the state of mind of the chef: deeply rooted in humble and countryside origins, the Chef lets you know from the start that he knows better how his food must be prepared. Which would be arrogant if the meal did not deliver, but it does. Another subtle hint in the cuisine is the time spent by the Chef in Asia, which infuses the recipes with exotic touches, always at the service of the main dish and not just as a cover up of lacklustre cuisine. They also have a magnificent terrace but we went there on a rainy Sunday. Nonetheless, the warm welcome and friendly post-lunch discussion with the Chef, on top of a perfect experience, will definitely lead to drive the 2+ hours to try it again in the summer sun. We ate on the terrace which was a classically old French space with plants and old rock walls lending their support to a timeless experience. Service? Not sure how to beat this. The waiter graciously walked us through the menu in French and very good English, he went out of his way to interview our children and create custom dinner choices followed by unique dessert plates with each child's name written beautifully on each!
