This accommodation does not cater to families with children or pets.

The program lent first-hand experience to people and places in the book series by Martin Walker about Bruno, Chief of Police (title of book #1) in St. Denis, a fictitious small town in the Dordogne. The program was superbly crafted to introduce the 10 participants, all guests at Les Cordeliers, to this beautiful and historic corner of France, with its renowned sites and unique culture. After the Bruno program, we continued at Les Cordeliers for another week with a rental car to further explore and enjoy the Perigord. To summarize: Sarlat is the perfect central point from which to discover the magical Perigord region of Dordogne. Les Cordeliers is the perfect small hotel experience in Sarlat. And Stephen and Susan are the perfect hosts. If you spend more than a night there, you will come away as friends.

The couple who owns the place has young children, and there are plenty of toys, books, and playspaces available. I didn't eat in the restaurant at night but the food looked fresh and delicious, and much of it is grown in the owners' own garden. Breakfast, with fresh baked breads, fruits, and yogurts, was scrumptious. The owners are simply lovely people. The husband of the couple came and picked up my traveling companion and me in Rocamadour and was incredibly nice and accommodating, even when we caused him to get back late for dinner! Carennac is a beautiful town and I only wish I'd stayed here longer than one night.

With two swimming pools front and back, beautiful grounds, numerous outbuildings, and a fine dining restaurant on site, we were wowed from the moment my husband and I spotted the chateau and grounds from the road. Even better, room #4 is beautifully furnished with a giant walk in shower, granite fireplace plus all the modern conveniences of a/c, free wifi, plenty of plug-ins plus coffee and tea makers in the room. The room has access to a private patio sitting area overlooking Beynac chateau. We made dinner reservations as soon as we checked in, and got pool towels from reception, who was very friendly and gave us a nice tour of the beautifully restored sitting area with incredible wood paneling brought from an abbey from the 1400s. An added bonus, push a button at your poolside lounge chair and voila, your aperol spritz appears poolside!

It is considerably cheaper than the other hotels a few meters down the street. The hotel is a quaint little stone building just outside of the main street of Rocamadour. The stone outer structure of the building is amazing, and it's basically built into a cliff face. Plus, the location is great. You can just walk down the street to the main area of Rocamadour, where you can take the elevator up to the cathedral and then the chateau at the top. The rooms were small and what they had available was two twin beds, but it was more than acceptable. The bathroom was small but well equipped and it had superhot water in the shower, which was nice. They also had free parking, which was good. The best part of the stay was the amazing view from the window when we woke up in the morning. The sun was rising, the valley was filled with fog, and cool crisp air met you as you stuck your head out the window. If you want to go to Rocamadour and you want to save a few dollars over the more expensive hotels a few feet away, give this place a try.

LES CEDRES Rue Marc Delbreil…read moreSarlat If you are thinking of exploring the Dordogne, land of wine, ducks, geese, caves, walnuts, chateaus and rivers, then you need a place like Les Cedres. We spent a month there this summer and it was brilliant. The situation is perfect. Sarlat is the centre of many of the area's attractions. It is an engaging town itself and the accommodation is just 15 minutes walk from the mediaeval centre. And that 15 minutes is accurate, believe me. Beside, the apartment is very close to the main roads to places like Bergerac and Cahors and three supermarkets are within a couple of minutes drive. There is a bigger villa in the grounds but we stayed in the one bedroom apartment which is attached to the owners' house. Milos and his Waterford wife Rosemary, along with son George, are great and friendly hosts, very helpful with all kinds of hints as regard where to go and where to eat. They even supply charcoal for the barbecue. The gardens are lovely and from time to time you will see deer wander through and squirrels dart from tree to tree. There is also a smashing pool away in its own corner, a veritable sun trap, and a very welcome retreat after a few hours driving in the hot sun. Beside, you have your own barbecue area under the trees but still warmed by the evening sun.

The rooms are large and comfortable. We had an expansive view of the farmhouse property and overlooked the pool which was warmed to 84F. The hounds are stunning and we had a stroll around on our first evening. There are only 6 rooms in the farmhouse but we noted there were a couple of lodges away from the main house. Our tour of 5 had the entire place almost to ourselves. We saw a few other diners on the first night. Our meal was prepared by Michelin starred chef Pascal Lombard. The rooms were comfy with nice accouterments. The staff was exceedingly pleasant and accommodating. Laura was wonderful and took care of all our requests. The place is an easy walk into town which we did one evening. An enjoyable place to stay during our tour. Highly recommend. Mark & Nancy.

The staff excisting out of a very nice girl and (sorry to say) Forrest Gump with an attitude! When we tried to make a reservation online it was fully booked, but by phone wide open??? The specials were sold out at this nearly empty restaurant (REALLY?)and they offer nothing for kids.. The food is average, the Fois grass terrine taste like nothing, the burgers were good. We have had great service during our trip in France but in this small town in the middle of nowhere it was absolutely terrible!
