There are much more locals than tourists here. The park (opened in 1867) is really beautiful but it is less popular among visitors comparing to top Paris attractions. This is exactly why it's worth a visit - add something a bit different to your Paris trip. Landscape design is outstanding - you will find an artificial lake, a grotto and waterfalls. One of the two bridges was designed by Gustave Eiffel. The park is hilly and you can enjoy amazing views of Paris from different points. One of the highest points is Temple de la Sibylle (50m above the lake). You can see Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre from here. This place is great for running - you can do flat circles around the lake or hilly runs everywhere, there are some 8 kilometers of roads and paths. One of the three restaurants, Rosa Bonheur, is really popular, it may take an hour of waiting to get in on weekends. You can find 5 areas with free Wi-Fi in the park. Each time I go to France, I love exploring different regions and neighborhood. This time, we rented a beautiful 2 bedroom apartment in the Bellville area. Exploring the area, I found this gem of a Parc. I love exploring where the locals go for relaxation and where they eat. After a tasty meal nearby, my friend Mats flew in from London and we explored this lovely park. We mostly stayed under the tree lined paths because it was a hot day. For a park, we were here on a Wednesday around 2pm, lots of people looking like they are having a siesta or a break from work. Everyone seemed friendly, kept to themselves. The park is rich with different plants, trees and flowers. We hiked up to the highest point, from here you have an observation look out on the rooftops of Paris and a gorgeous view of Sacre Coeur. On the way to the top, you get to cross a bridge and below is a little lake. Some parts are rather steep, go at your own pace and bring a bottled water on a hot day and a plus if you wear a hat. Every turn you go into this park had something appealing. If you look at my images, there is also a cave. During raining season, the cave has a waterfall in it, it's very pretty. Plenty of grass room to have a picnic, take a nap or read a book. If you opt for something else, lots of park benches that faces the lake. A wonderful oasis in the heart of Paris. The first time I visited the park, I was taken by surprise as the parc consist of many things. It has a bridge which had an epic view of the park. There was a small island and it was very tranquil. I love this park as it had many beautiful sceneries! Amazing for a picnic with friends! read more

Gorgeous - what a total surprise. The topography is so unexpected. I entered the park for a run and had no idea what treasures awaited me. There is a wide path which circumnavigates the park. I passed multiple restrooms which can be helpful while on a run or exploring the city. There is a cafe in the park also- nice if you need some refreshments. The paved path has quite a bit of elevation change, and looking inward to the center of the park I was amazed by the serious drop offs! Further around and I saw the lake appear with the temple perched high above it and knew I needed to go up there. A bridge crosses high over the lake and one can climb the path to the temple. Beautiful views reward you for the climb. Sacre Coeur in the distance. There are other areas near the park with slightly better views of the city (Parc de Belleville for one) but this one isn't bad and it's a much more beautiful park by far. Ah, Paris can delight you in so many ways and this park is a fantastic surprise. read more

This was my favorite park that we visited. It had some good hills and scenic views and bridges. I'm glad we decided to walk back to our hotel in Pantin from the city, otherwise we would not have stumbled on it. The park wasn't crowded and it looked like a locals' park. read more

A bit off the beaten track but easily accessible via the Paris Metro, this park is beautiful. Built into an old quarrey, the park is immaculately landscaped. Great vantage points, locals sunning themselves, children playing, joggers racing by...this place is filled with locals. We stopped for an ice cream cone and wandered the grounds in awe. We're very happy we made the trip out....it was well worth the $3.80€ (for 1 way for 2 ppl) on the subway. Neighborhood surrounding the park isn't anything special, but the park is. read more

One of my favorite parks in Paris -- it's a strange and strangely agreeable mix of nature and man made artifice -- fake waterfalls and cement 'caves.' The area had originally used as gallows where criminals where executed before before being transformed into it's current beautiful site by Baron Haussmann and Adolphe Alphand in 1867. read more

Our French friend tells us to meet at a McDonalds way out in the 19th. Not eat, just meet there. She suggests we get a sandwich at a place nearby and bring it to the park. She takes us to not just any Boulangerie, but Véronique Mauclerc. Of course, I don't realize how special it is at the time. Same thing goes with the park! "The park's over there." We cross the street, and before you know it we're in Paradise. It's a gentle hike to the summit. You meander along the way. Everything is so sublime. Many secret spots, ponds, and gorgeous sweeping views of Paris. A casual bar, aptly named Rosa Bonheur, sits near the top. This may be my heaven. read more

A nice park.plenty of walking or running trails, you see many groups doing Tai Chi or Yoga, loads of interesting nooks & crannies and some vantage points for views of the city including Montmartre & the Sacre Ceour. read more

This park was suggested to me by the receptionist at the hostel I was staying at. Despite there not being too much in the area, this park is gorgeous. There's a waterfall and climbing up to the high point to see Paris is fantastic. Amazing and still not very known! After a few days in the big city we loved the peace and quiet this parc had to offer. The waterfall, the little nooks and beautifull artworks make this a must see when you are in the neighbourhood. We came back completely relaxed and will definitly go back here. So please, when in Paris .... try this beautifull parc and dare to drift away from the tourist-spots! I promise you won't be disappointed. read more

This park is a very under-rated park in all of Paris. It is spacious, beautiful, and not too developed. It contains multiple different areas with different "feels," so you almost feel like you've gone 10 different places. The park includes some playgrounds and also lots of shade. read more

This is a real hidden treasure in Paris. Oil absolutely loved this hidden oasis with its steep hill rock and phenomenal view of Paris. With a real good camera u can see sacré cœur cathédrale and surroundings. Plus there are interesting birds to watch out for. Looking for a little nature sanctuary in Paris? This is your place. It is a nice quiet park to walk around and enjoy some grass, a lake, fake hill, and fake waterfall. This shouldn't be your first stop in Paris, but it is a non-touristy site located in a non-touristy neighborhood. You can stroll around, grab a baguette and find a nice bench to enjoy your sandwich with some Tuiles. read more

One of my favorite parks in Paris. Although the entire park is manmade, you can't really tell and it's so beautiful and pleasant to walk in. It's large enough for a long walk but small enough that it's not hard to make your way back to where you started. Lots of people jog in this park and I've seen so many families with kids walking around. A great place to relax on a rare sunny day in Paris. read more

This is absolutely one of my favorite spots in Paris (along with the Canal Saint Martin). Having a picnic in the sun on one of its rolling hills is pure bliss. I took advantage of one of the nice days in May to head here with some friends and do some world class people watching. The gays are out with their cute little tank tops, the girls are dressed Parisian chic. It was just spectacular. And if you get there early enough on the weekend, go to Rosa Bonheur before the line reaches out the park gates! I try to go to this park at least once every time I'm in Paris. read more

Don't get me wrong, I think the French style of gardening with gravel paths cutting around carefully plotted squares of grass and flowers is beautiful and unique, but finding this huge park in Paris is a breath of fresh air. The park itself surrounds what I can only describe as a miniature mountain jutting up from the middle of a large pond. You can wander around the rolling green hills, lie in the grass near the pond, or take one of the higher paths (past a beautiful waterfall if you go the right way!) to the large bridge that connects to the peak, where a large pavilion perches. The bridge sways slightly as you cross it, which is an excellent opportunity to pretend you are Indiana Jones (or insert whichever adventure hero you prefer). The sunset from the top of the pavilion is, without exaggeration, the best I have seen in Paris. The bright orange sunset backlights the unique skyline of Monmartre, and the centerpiece is Sacré Cœur. It is one of the most beautiful things I have seen in Paris, and that's saying beaucoup! read more

This park was such a treasure to find. But among all the parks in Paris that I have been to, this might be the most memorable. It really was fantastic. Some really cool people used to hang out here, in this underrated place, and admire the sculptured yet natural surroundings, while doing their sketching and writing. Paris has many, many places that are picturesque on a grand scale and everyone knows them or has seen pictures of them, and this place is observably unsung and a great venue for any time of day on a walk or to meet your friends, ... Despite visiting this park on a rainy and cold day, we had a blast at this man made park. There were lakes, waterfalls, tunnels, bridges and a beautiful gazebo/temple (le temple de la Sybille) on the highest point of the park. Wonderful view of Sacre Coeur from that point. A lovely place to jog though it is a bit hilly. I personally think this park is very artsy, very romantic and enchanting--just look at the branches for stair rails! It's a great escape from the bustling and hustling of the big city. The park is easily accessible by metro--Metro Butte Chaumont line 7bis is right in front of one of the park's entrance. Can't wait to visit Parc des Buttes Chaumont again on a nicer sunny day! read more

This park did not live up to all the hype for me. It's a much more natural setting than the other parks we saw around Paris, but compared to the parks we have in the Cleveland area, the scenery just wasn't that impressive. For tourists, I think it's not worth the trip. read more

this is my favourite park in the whole entire world. situated on a hill overlooking paris, it's breath-takingly beautiful. i've been on sunny weekdays, cloudy weekdays, rainy weekdays and sunny weekends and it's a joy every time. when it's sunny and a weekend you can bet it will be crowded with parisians picnicking with friends, family and dogs, and it is has the most perfect, relaxed atmosphere. i always take a drink and a picnic and spend some time just relaxing on the grass, strolling the hills, looking over beautiful paris, and people/dog watching. i honestly can't speak highly enough of this place - i'm a park girl, i like them, but this one is the ultimate! read more

Topographically stunning park with equally wow-inspiring views of Sacre Coeur and the Paris skyline, Buttes Chaumont is a picnic-rific spot (that is if you can find a level patch of grass to sit) for a sunny and lazy afternoon of people watching, cloud pondering and gloriously little more. Buttes Chaumont is an excellent park. Paris has several parks and gardens but I think that this is my favourite one. It's a little bit further away from the centre than others but is definitely worth the metro trip. Firstly it is huge, once your there you don't feel like you are in the city any more. There is a lake and the park is quite hilly, which makes a change. This park is very family friendly, it's perfect for picnics, walks and sunbathing. I prefer it to other parks it is a little different and from the hill there is a look out tower to view the city. read more

This parc is simply gorgeous with all its landscapes. Nice view from the top, interesting nature scenery below - caves, waterfall, trees. Evidently this park is built on the site of a garbage dump but you would never realise it now. And the suspension bridge is such a horrible experience as it wobbles and vibrates unpleasantly. read more
