An absolutely lovely public park created in the 1600s in the 6th municipality. It's huge, just over 60 acres of lush green, water, fountains, sculptures, park benches, vegetation (floral, etc.) and more. There's an orchard, tons of trees, flowerbeds, and so on. A wonderful place to spend a relaxing afternoon having lunch and watching the activity around you. Tranquil and inviting.
The Jardin du Luxembourg, or Luxembourg Garden, is a historical park in Paris's 6th district, features 17th-century gardens, statues, and fountains. Originally created for Marie de' Medici in 1612, the property now belongs to the French Senate, which is housed in the park's Luxembourg Palace. Some major attractions include: 1) Luxembourg Palace (Palais du Luxembourg): This is the most impressive structure in the park and is the home of the French Senate. 2) Medici Fountain: Built in 1620, this Italian-style grotto is a beautiful, shady spot to relax. Grand Bassin: Children can sail model boats on this octagonal pond. 3). Statues and monuments: Over 100 sculptures are scattered throughout the park, including a series of 20 statues of French queens and a replica of the Statue of Liberty. While we enjoy all those sites, we also like to visit a smaller version of the Statue of Liberty. There are nine or so of these in Paris, but this one and the one on the River Seine are our favorites! The original bronze model of the Statue of Liberty once located in the Jardin du Luxembourg was moved to the Musée d'Orsay in 2011 to protect it from vandalism. A replica now stands in its place in the gardens. The gardens are a fantastic place to visit, picnic, and enjoy the outdoors while in the city of Paris!
The garden was so beautiful and vast. As we wandered through it and exited it for a short detour, I didn't even realize that the park we entered back into was the same park. It was THAT big. At one side of the park, there were tennis courts that were filled with plenty of people walking about during the middle of a work day. And there were sand pits too with little kiddos running around. And as you continue walking, there was a palace looking structure with a fountain out front. It was a beautiful sight to behold. The shrubbery and flowers in the area were so pretty even in the fall. There were chairs aplenty so taking a moment to enjoy the scenery was such a Parisian thing to do. Walking throughout the park, there were interesting statues everywhere. We even stumbled upon a miniature Statute of Liberty that was gifted from the United States to France. If you have some time, take a quick walk through the garden. It's really pretty and clean.
Despite compelling cases for Tuileries Garden and Place des Vosges, I think if any green space really epitomizes Paris, it has to be Luxembourg Garden. That's because no matter how crowded it gets, the park retains a calming atmosphere. Almost like a movie set, the landscaping is impeccable with perfectly aligned tree-lined paths, colorful flowerbeds, and well-spaced sculptures. The stately Luxembourg Palace dominates the park with its grandeur. Jamie W and I were here in early September, so the flowers were still in bloom. We were able to secure a couple of the green chairs where we devoured the chocolate cramique we bought at Aux Merveilleux de Fred (review https://yelp.to/Ctu5tgvU1c). We enjoyed watching the kids push the little sailboats in the central pond (Video). In another area, kids were riding ponies accompanied by their watchful parents (Photo 4). To better maintain the grounds, they cordoned off certain green spaces for relaxing and picnicking (Photo 3). The entirety of the park really felt like bucolic scenes depicted in impressionistic paintings. We didn't spend as much time as we wanted, but we have a good excuse to return to the Left Bank. This is the place for kids!!! We spent the entire day and it was magical. From floating toy sailboats, to playing on the playground, to riding horses. This place was magical . If you have kids this should be at the top of your list.
If you visit Paris.... You must spend some time here... find your space. What a beautiful open space garden... where people get together, to chill, to relax, kids play... and couples sharing moments... I'm sure it requires a lot of people to maintain this space... and bravo for their service. The trees are cut and trim to reflect art-like features, flowers abundance... one can get lost in their musing... grab a chair and let the breeze and sun take your worries away... Even if it's temporary... I loved my quiet 10 mins. Then we started to walk to dinner... food over peace.
This is quintessential Parisian life... do as they grab a quick to go meal and have lunch here. It is the perfect people watching place. Large gardens with many places to sit. Well maintained and very clean with lovely follages
One of the most beautiful greenspaces in Paris. Actually, one of the most beautiful parks I've visited. Friday, late afternoon. People of all ages just hanging out, enjoying all that Jardin du Luxembourg has to offer. The grounds were perfectly manicured. Impeccable landscaping. Perfect paths throughout the park. I loved the fountains. You can rent a sailboat to push around the pond. Tennis courts. A few concession areas. I just couldn't find a bathroom. Probably my inability to read the maps in the park. Loved Jardin du Luxembourg!
These are beautiful gardens to spend time in relaxing or exercising. We went in October 2024 on an off-again, on-again rainy day and the park was full of people. Besides the beautiful wooded parts, trails and floral gardens, there are also sculptures and other landmarks here to visit. My favorite is the Medici Fountain, an absolutely beautiful work of art and one of the most famous of the city's many fountains.
Lots of space for exercise (running, tennis court, walking) and resting. Lots of seats available and shade. Highly recommend visiting for a morning workout
such a stunning park with the most gorgeous views! Perfect for a photoshoot, a nice stroll or even a lovely picnic. There's plenty of chairs available to sit in and lots of shaded grass areas for picnics. Must visit free area in paris!
Very nice garden, we viewed it in passing many times during our vacation. On our last day, we visited. It started to drizzle, but wanted to see. The walkways like others in Paris is a fine gravel. There is a large lawn area, fountains, and a large building that we could not access. Maybe because it was a Sunday morning. There were a lot of morning Joggers that ran by. In the evenings we saw many people enjoying the outside, and there were lots of chairs for that purpose. It was cold, and still early spring, it's probably much more beautiful in warmer weather.
Big quiet oasis of a park in Paris. Lots of trees and shade. Excellent park for kids with lots of high quality equipment including a zip line. Playground very well maintained and they charge for entry. For parents coffee and snacks are available. Bathrooms close by. They have a Carousel too which is staffed and lots of fun to take a spin on...park is quite large with many paths for walking. Very relaxing and beautiful. I would recommend for the kids to get energy out or for the parents to clear the head.

One of the reasons we chose the hotel for our April visit to Paris was the proximity to Le Jardin du Luxembourg -- the Luxembourg Garden. This is one of my favorite places in Paris. Besides the layout and beauty of the Garden itself, it is a wonderful way to experience the softer side of Paris. Despite April overcast and rainy weather, walking through the Park was uplifting as always. Tulips greeted us when we entered through the Gay-Lussac entrance. Once in the Park, we found more flowers and trees in bloom. Beyond Les Voiliers du Luxembourg -- an octagonal fountain for sail boats at the focal center if the Gaeden -- we walked through a canopy formed by rows of chestnut trees. It was great staying within a few blocks of Le Jardin du Luxembourg and visiting daily. read more
Quality/Quantity - Huge and good size garden. Many locals here eat (and drink) their lunch. Family friendly. The landscaping here is amazing. Well, most of Paris's gardens! I am so impressed I used to do my own landscaping so I know how much work it takes to make gardens look like this! Several small snack kiosks; see my pictures. Ambiance - 25 hectare, beautifully landscaped. There is a French and English part, I did not know and sadly probably would not be able to tell the difference. Rose garden, statues, etc. Kid friendly - A merry go round, slides, play areas, etc. Restaurant, snack kiosks, etc. Service - Self service. Price - The garden is free. I think you have to pay to go into the building. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success since 1612. read more

Wonderful park in the middle of Paris to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Very wide open green spaces and a pond to relax and enjoy the good weather. Located conveniently on walking distance from a lot of attractions. It doesn't feel like you're in Paris when you're here. read more

This is a nice place to slow down and relax and enjoy the fresh air in Central Paris. It's free and it's also apparently the oldest park in Paris. The Garden of Luxembourg leads into a central plaza featuring the Palace of Luxembourg. read more
Jardin du Luxembourg is beautiful! It's a nice escape from reality and city life. There are gardens, sculptures, water features and more on property so guests can enjoy a peaceful time there. They offer many benches and chairs to sit on. It's surprisingly very clean! The entire park is quite clean with rubbish bins to discard waste. We saw people having coffee, drawing art, having conversations, reading, taking photos and eating while visiting. During our stroll around the property, we sat at serval spots to admire the area and to talk about how lucky we are to be able to have a conversation there. Medici Fountain stood out but it's busy there with people trying to take photos or draw the surrounding area. We sat there and enjoyed some macarons. It was a nice day in the park and we are envious that locals can come often. Highly recommended free attraction site for locals or tourists. read more
Lovely park and grounds culminating in the central plaza and palace. So photogenic! And you'll be envious of all those lucky souls who were able to nab a chair by the grassy center to read, talk, or just plain people-watch. A great place for a stroll and a picnic lunch. There's also a boules court where some seniors take this game very seriously. Pickle ball? Not here ... read more
Cute medium sized playground located within Jardin du Luxembourg. The equipment consist of slides, swings, wooden train structure, seesaw, spring riders, sandlot, climbing structure, digger, balancing beam, an obstacle course, zip line. Not used to paying for a playground though so minus a star for that. €3 for kids ans €1 for adults as of 1/1/25. The carousel is separate and also for a fee. Credit cards accepted read more
We had arrived to Paris early in the morning, and had to drop our luggage at a Stasher location so we picked one next to these gardens. Once our luggage was dropped off, we got to go right into the gardens and it was such a nice visit. Everything is nice and open, lots of shade trees, and it was just a beautiful place to relax, grab a chair, and do some people watching. We loved the grand basin, we got to see one of the statues of liberty, and we got to use the public restrooms, (which are actually very nice). We finished our visit by stopping by the Medici fountain and then headed out of the gardens to continue our sightseeing for the day. It was a very relaxing stop and I'm so glad we didn't miss it! read more
Grab a pastry and a good book and enjoy this massive garden for a few hours. There's plenty of seating with fountain views around a 17th century palace built for Louis XIII's mother. Throughout the park are sculpture and statues like a mold of the Statue of Liberty. There's also a carousel and a playground that is well maintained thanks to the three Euro admission for each kid. read more

I've never been so happy to get lost while looking for a bathroom. I didn't know this place existed, but my bathroom search brought me here. There is lots of amazing people watching and it is a lovely place to sit and eat a baguette sandwich while you take it all in. People jogging, children playing with little model boats in a fountain, it doesn't get more Parisian than this. What a lovely afternoon. read more

We came here on a cold, rainy day. So naturally the views were a bit less impressive. It also was wintertime, so there weren't really any flowers or blooming plants. The Palace itself is a really looker. A stunning landmark. And the garden around it very pretty with the nice pond in the middle. Makes a nice little walk. The gardens go on from there in all directions. Due to the very bad weather though we didn't explore it further. But we stumbled on the several statues of former queens. These were very impressive and the info plates very informative. That was really - if you're into history - a highlight of the gardens here. There's a bistro and some public toilets on the grounds as well. Lots of benches for sunny days and also some covered areas to get some rest on rainy days. All in all a fine garden. Surely something to come back to on a warm and sunny day. read more

3/24/24 - After lots of sitting the previous day due to long flights and lots of weather delays, we got a few hours sleep and decided we needed to get outside and walk. It was a very cool (for us Floridians) day but it was partly sunny. We walked from our hotel to the gardens and spent about another 2 hours leisurely walking around this enormous area. Spring was showing a there were many more blooms on trees and flowering plants in the ground than we had anticipated. We watched families playing on fun looking area set aside, and we believe a fee for its use. Others were sailing little boats rented from a vendor on the little fountain/pond area. The wind did pick up and we left as it seemed that rain was threatening again. However, the outing was exactly what we needed to refresh our spirits and get some exercise as well. read more

Arguably one of the most beautiful gardens in all of Paris. It is it all! Flowers, trees, sculptures, fountains, architectural elements, areas for sports and so much more. My husband introduced this garden to me on one of our first visits to Paris together. The garden immediately captured my spirit to take the 2nd place spot of my top gardens in Paris list. Versailles still holds #1. I have yet to visit Giverny. This year for my birthday I had a photo shoot for both professional headshots and personal photos. The garden was the perfect setting offering a variety of colors, lighting, and scenery. Some notable points to enjoy are: Queens of France and Famous Women sculptures. In total 20 marble sculptures surrounding the pond honoring France's women in power. The Medici Fountain, my absolute favorite spot in the garden, is a work of majesty and glory. Built in 1630 by Queen Marie de Medici, the fountain recounts the Greek tale of Polyphemus, better known as Cyclops, towering over the two lovers Acis and Galatea before he kills them. The image is both beautiful and tragic all at once. It is so stunning in person, there are chairs along the walkup to the fountain for people to sit and take it all in. the fountain had a cleaning in 2021, removing years of soot, algae, and tarnishing of the bronze. It has been restored to its magnificence. The Grand Bassin is where anyone, children and adults can rent a petite boat to sail in the duck pond. Race with a friend or simply watch. The boats are not battery operated so it is a wonderful way to release your control of time. You are completely at the whim of where the wind takes you. There is so much more to see. The most obvious being the Palace of Luxembourg itself, currently the house of the French Senate. The Gazebo area is where you can hear live music in the park. And, as with any large park, there are tennis courts. If you are like me, the balls will go every which way, but who cares, just remember everything is better in Paris. Maybe your game will magically improve. Sit on one of the many benches throughout the park to relax, read, or watch. Bring a blanket and picnic and lay the day away after indulging a bottle of rose and saucisse and cheese. Or, simply meander along the pathways and get lost in the beauty of nature. While the Tuileries may be the most well known garden in Paris, I challenge you on your next visit to Paris to take in the expansive beauty sprinkled throughout the Jardin of Luxembourg and determine which garden reins supreme. read more

This park is amazing ! Such a vast, picturesque space to relax and enjoy while visiting Paris . My little one enjoyed the sailboat rentals and playground as well . This is a very lush park . Lots of greenery , flowers , artistic sculptures , a theatre ,multiple food establishments ,walking paths and seating . Something for everyone ! read more
Beat park ever in Paris. Flowers and statues everywhere. Fountain. Tennis courts...even the Senat is there. We went there on a sunny Saturday afternoon, brought food and beverage and sat around the fountain on the chairs provided by the park. Great people watching and boat races!!!! read more

Great place to come chill and wind down. Lots of chairs to sit on and just relax or you can take a stroll. There's a big pond where people were sailing small boats on there. I even saw some fishes. I didn't know about the Medici fountain until later so I didn't get to see it. :( there are lots of statues here read more
Near to Pantheon So it was next in line for the day. Montmartre- Moulin Rouge- Latin Quarter- Pantheon and this garden. It is one of the best-known parks in Paris build in the 17th century. Lush green- clean and 2 rows of tall trees - that makes it amazing. The central feature of the park is the large octagonal fountain-adorned pool. it is very pleasant to walk around; you will find an orchard, several varieties of apples, an apiary and a greenhouse with the orchid collection. There are 106 statues, a bronze reduction of the Statue of Liberty and 3 beautiful fountains. The garden surrounds the Palais du Luxembourg, where the Senate seats. (that building is not part of the park, though it seems like ) There are many chairs spread about for visitors to use. You can see residents and students from the Latin quarter enjoying here. It's great to see a park like this in big cities. read more
