I just went there for a quick waffle. Arrived 15 minutes before they close. Now when I arrive before closing at a restaurant, I'm not unreasonable. I understand people wanna get out and go home. I walked in and the manager looked at her watch and said "ok but we close in 15min," to which I responded "right." She replies, "ok well I don't know if we have any tables." There are like 10 customers there still eating. She says "let me go check the kitchen." At this point I'm about ready to leave, but one 'nice' employee says "don't worry they'll figure something out. I think they're in a hurry for some wedding." Ya I'm in a hurry too. I just wanna eat something and go study. So the manager begrudgingly says ok we've got a table. "and you're sure you can be in and out in 15." I gave her a death stare, closed my eyes, took a deep breath, pointed to the table, and she said "sorry sorry, I know we're just in a hurry." I don't say a single word except for my order. A waffle. My waitress comes puts some syrup on the table, doesn't even acknowledge me. I ate the waffle, drank my water, took my bill to the front, and there were still people seated btw. As I pull out my payment, the original "nice" employee" says "thanks for being fast and..." I immediately cut him off. I raised my left hand up, closed my eyes, said "stop talking!" Obviously, no tip. And I left and will not be returning. P.S. The waffle was Terrible. read more

Great place to eat. Friendly staff. My only complaint is the outdated and tacky decor. It's clean but all of the colors are so outdated and the tacky 1990's posters are faded and tired looking. An odd combination of fake 90's French bistro and golfing themes make this place a bit wonky. A fresh decor would take it up a notch. And maybe move the bar farther from the door, it's drafty in the winter. Also, some music would be nice, it's hard to distance yourself from the people talking next to you. The drifter skillet is phenomenal! The skillet is filled with seasonal veggies, no grease, and the eggs are incredibly fresh. This restaurant has a nice environment that has kept me visiting periodically for a few years. Unfortunately, the food is only mediocre and you likely make something more flavorful at home. After my my most recent visit, I won't return. This wkd, my name was added to the waiting list. As I waited for a table, a nice white couple walked in and added their name. The husband happily said, "Great we are next on the list," and proceeded to be seated within a few minutes as I continued to wait. I asked why the newly arrived couple was seated before us, and the lady that always runs the front showed us the list. She had decided to start a new list, rearranging the order in a way that seated my party after those arriving later than us. Whatever her motivation, it was in poor taste and was a negative part of my lovely Saturday. For good breakfast, try Sammy's or a weekend brunch at Sun Singer or Big Grove. Used to love coming in here every time but it's changed now. Today I just had a terrible experience when I walked in to the door. My friend and I come here all the time and love being regulars, but one waitress can really ruin that experience. I don't know her name so I cannot say much. We walked in, and waited for a table. This waitress who attended us last time walked up go the hostess, held her menu in front of her face (at this point I already felt uncomfortable), and I watched her whisper and heard "These two standing over there, I never want to serve them again" and she said this to what I believe was a new hostess. It was only confirmed when the hostess looked back and saw us. After that, my meal was already ruined. I didn't want to eat there anymore, but stayed through how uncomfortable I was. I did tell the manager but I don't think I explained my discomfort well enough. Our waitress today on the other hand was very nice. However, I don't think I'll be back for a while. Came here after a friend highly suggested it. Just a warning: the menu on lepeep.com is the corporate menu. Luckily, the chef said as long as they have the ingredients he'd make whatever I wanted. As I was leaving I found out the manager that was running around helping bus tables and check people out was actually the owner. Le peep is one of the best forgotten restaurants in champaign. It gets drowned out by the original house of pancakes which is a shame because it is very good. Today I drove 20 minutes just to visit this popular restaurant. The server's face was unbelievably cold. Their skillet is so so. Especially the waffle! The flour is not expensive, right? Over the weekend we brought our young children to brunch and the place was packed as usual. The Le Peep staff took the time to let our kids feel welcomed by giving them books from the Le Peep library to look at while we waited. This was such a cool idea! Le Peep is a charming place with a solid menu for breakfast, brunch, lunch. Even my picky eaters seem to enjoy this place. Their skillets (I recommend the Wanderer) & omelettes are great savoury choices. I like their waffles. And the pancakes are always fluffy. I recently discovered their smoothies, which are so good. For those of us non-morning people, you can order a "bottomless" carafe of coffee so we can face the day with some semblance of alertness. When it's nice out, there's outdoor seating. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by Le Peep's brunch. The dining room is cramped and busy, but the service is friendly & efficient. We had some trouble deciding what to order off their never-ending menu (not a complaint!), and I was really happy with my granola blueberry pancakes. Sounds strange, but what a great idea to put granola in/on pancakes! I like that each table gets their own pitcher of water, coffee, hot water for your tea, whatever you happen to be drinking. My girlfriend got the blueberry pancakes which I tried a bite of and was blown away, mind you I'm not a big blue berry fan but I would order these any day. I ordered the Wanderer skillet; peasant potatoes, onion, tomato, bacon, cheese and topped with two basted eggs! Tons of bacon!!!! This is the only place I've seen basted eggs, the skillet was amazing. On top of it all we got out with a bill of 15.74 for the two of us! PHENOMENAL! read more
