This place has great reviews, and they weren't wrong! The service was phenomenal, and both hubs and I loved our breakfasts. I had the vegetarian version of eggs Benedict, I can't remember what they called it. It was a large portion, I could only eat half, but it was a little too watery to take home with me. I know I wouldn't have eaten it later. Hubs had the mess (eggs scrambled with other ingredients) with pancakes, and he mostly focused on the pancakes because he knew the mess would heat up well for another meal. We have a habit of frequenting the original pancake house whenever we find one. This one tops them all so far. The food was perfect. The pancakes here are the only ones I love ! Lives up to the hype! Ambience is homey with tables around a hearth on the back wall and wood features across the restaurant. There are funny impersonal features that always show up in a chain -- the wall painting of anonymous rolling hills and strip mall ceiling tiles. But the feel in the interior rises above those quibbles. We ordered the buttermilk pancakes, Dutch Baby, and potato pancakes. The latter items had enough texture that they similarly rise above typical chain fair. The Dutch Baby was eggy on the bottom and lightly crispy on the sides with a a wrinkled surface between. The potato pancakes were maybe half shredded potato and crispy on the edges without being burned. Worth noting is that the coffee was also very pleasant. Mild (not burned) at the exact strength you can drink it black or with cream. OPH cracked the code. read more

I really love this place. I don't live anywhere near here, but my kid goes to school around here. This place is worth the extra trek, even though it's off campus. It's a big place, with many amazing breakfast options. You won't get a better breakfast, even at Mom's. I always get one of many delicious pancake options. My family mixes it up with eggs sometimes. They love it too. We came here two days in a row for breakfast this weekend because we know we'll love it and we may never try all the menu items we are dying to try. There is always a crowd waiting (at least in weekends when I am here) until they close in the afternoon. No reservations, but they have a waiting list, and it's a big restaurant with a big staff. They move through the wait list efficiently. The pancake portions are very big. I finished my Pigs in a Blanket yesterday, but not easily. I could only finish about 2/3 of the Strawbana cakes today. Huge and delicious. My college aged athletic son frequently gets Chocolate Chip Pancakes, and never finishes them. But he loves them. I loved them years ago myself. And over the 2 days the family had 3 different "scrambles" and hair with each. The crowd is a big eclectic group of folks of all ages, ethnicities, and walks of life. It's loud, because families and groups of friends are talking and breaking bread, as they are going to town on big decadent plates with their utensils. All the while, a big and equally eclectic staff are hustling and ducking and swerving to deliver, collect, and wash those plates. I enjoy people-watching the dogs in this machine work together. In my twisted mind it's like the musical Stomp. I would need happy when I leave, just based on the food. But I am also happy because a big extremely diverse staff works together and serves the delicious food efficiently with a smile gives me faith in America. I know this is a (less than massive) chain, but it feels like a small town mom and pop small business. And we need more of this. Stephanie today was our server, and she took great care of us on an extremely busy Sunday morning of a home game basketball weekend. This place is a chain. But, unless you've seen others, you'd never know it. This is a standby breakfast for me and wifey. It is what it says it is. Competition (other breakfast chains) try to do too many things. You don't get pot roast here. They don't do dinners. I find this a good thing. They've remodeled quite a bit. The place looks stellar. Comfy booths, good sized tables, and you do not feel cramped. Service is always wonderful. One of the many reasons we keep coming back. Today we had Jessica. She was bright, cheerful and contributed to a fabulous start to our day! Today wifey is going with the bacon and eggs with bran pancakes. I chose sausage patty, eggs and banana pancakes. These were top notch. The sausage patties are the thicker, smaller ones, not the thin lame ones. Very nice flavor. Over medium eggs were a little more than over-medium, but precisely the way I want them. If you like your over mediums to be a little closer to over easy, just be aware. The banana pancakes finished out the delightful experience. Wifey (who does not like chewy bacon) LOVES this thick bacon! Wifey's brancakes (bran pancakes) were delicious and worth the upgrade for sure. They come with their own strawberry syrup which she says is awesome. We celebrated Valentine's Day with an early morning breakfast at the Original Pancake House. The three-egg omelette is huge and packed full of ham and veggies. My banana pancakes were perfect- although one serving would easily feed two people. The service was very attentive and the coffee was kept full and hot. We visited late morning and were seated immediately. Service was swift and the area was bright with natural light. I ordered 1 to 1 to 1 which was 1 egg, pancake and turkey link. I added a side of hash browns with onions and hubby got the Spanish omelette with upgraded banana pancakes. The pancakes were definitely the star. The batter is flavorful but not overly sweet. Super light and just a great experience. Everything else was lovely, hubby reported that the omelette was filled with ingredients and not overcooked. So we ordered a take out this morning. We waited for 40 minutes to get them. I ordered meat lover and my colleague ordered vegetable something. When they gave our order they were swapped. I got a burnt vegetable pancake. Crew are nice and polite but during the rush (because there are plenty of diners) we were neglected. We stopped here on the way to Springfield specifically for the eggs benedict that come with potato pancakes. We got there about an hour before closing on a Saturday and there was still quite a wait to get a table. Once we got seated our order was taken quickly. I then made a stop in the ladies room and was surprised to see that all the stalls had bidet seats on the toilets. Having never tried one before I did and was pleasantly surprised. I can see this would definitely be a way to save money on toilet tissue. More restaurants should do this IMO. When our food arrived I was surprised to see the potato pancakes were bigger and thicker than those we get at the Charlotte, NC location. I'm not complaining about more, but these were kind of greasy. We had ordered an extra order of just the pancakes since we're used to them being thin, but given the thickness of them, it was more than we could eat. We took the leftovers, but they were so great we ended up throwing them out. I think next time we'll try the Bloomington location. read more

Their waitlist system and front desk is terrible. We were told our wait would be 25min for two people, and provided our name and phone number. After 45min we realized we had been "taken off the wait list" according to the link provided. We asked the front desk about it and they told us because we had waited so long our name was removed (what?) and she put us at the back of a different wait list. They definitely seated someone else under our name (I have a common name) and took us off the list. Instead of making up some excuse and putting us at the back of the list, they could have offered anything to make up for their mistakes but instead put us at the back of a different list. We decided to leave. What a mess! read more

Good comfort food. Absolutely simple place with comfort food. If you want to have some pancakes this is a place for you. The rest may or may not be up to your standards, but it is still tasty and there is a lot of food for the money. The ambiance is fine -- it's just people eating breakfast. This place used to have very long waits, and I've noticed that there hasn't been a wait the last few times I came. The almond French toast was amazing! Best thing we ordered. We also thought the veggie scramble was wonderful; we subbed spinach for the mushrooms. Bacon was super crispy - just as we ordered - and it was so thick. Only one small problem- Our server overfilled the chocolate milk so it made a mess under every drink on her tray and our table when she dropped off our drinks. Food was good. This is not like other OPH I have been to. The menu is smaller, the location is smaller but clean and the staff were nice. This didn't feel or smell like an OPH. Usually you can smell what's cooking, especially the pancake smell. They don't seem to have the fresh orange juice either. read more

This is a great place to get a great big breakfast to fill you up fir your day's activities! I got the garden Benedict and opted for blueberry pancakes (instead of potato pancakes). It was delicious and very filling. The sauce for the Benedict wasn't heavy nor was there too much - just right. The pancakes were filled with blueberries and they even give you more to put on top! It's the original pancake house- Do I love it, absolutely not. Does the rest of my family- yes. The Dutch baby is the only thing that brings us in because we can't get that other places. It's greasy diner breakfast food. If you want a fast omelette or two sunny side up eggs, bacon and toast in a diner that will shovel you in and out fast and with a perfectly sweet smile- this is your place. If you want a long wait, this is your place. If you want a relaxed setting with a mimosa, a latte and eggs Benedict- this is not it. I had a great time here on a very very busy Sunday morning. Packed with locals with a huge line out the door, the service staff and kitchen more than stepped up with a perfect dining experience. Usually you can expect to wait longer for your food but it was prompt, hot and perfectly prepared. It is exactly as it should be for this type and level of chain restaurant. I really appreciate that they have real maple syrup and not that fake corn syrup nonsence. I really tried to finish my blueberry pancakes. I ordered a side of their excellent bacon. I always say that it's easy to figure out if I like a spot or not because when I do like it, I will make it a point to go and have it twice in a week. That's what happened with the Original Pancake House. I went to Champaign to pick up my dog from my niece and this spot was recommended to me by a friend. I had no expectations and being super jet lagged, it was convenient that it was open early in the morning. We went first thing for breakfast and I had the corned beef hash with some banana pancakes and a coffee. It was really nice they give you a full pitcher of creamer at your table for your coffee. They somehow knew that I like my cream with a little coffee and it was great! The potatoes with my corned beef was seasoned really well and the texture was crispy but also soft. It tasted even better with some hot sauce sprinkled all over it. The banana pancake had chunks of banana in it that I barely had to put any syrup. The pancakes were so fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness. The servings were huge so I had to bring the leftovers home and it was nice that they had an area for silverware for anything you're taking to-go. The service and food here is top notch and will definitely need to be a stop whenever I'm in Champaign. read more

FYI... Dutch Baby is the bomb but it takes 15 to 20 minutes. Its sooo worth it but be warned if your starving. I haven't been here since high school in the 70's. It hasn't changed. Great food and great service. Greated at the door, sat in a comfy booth. Water and coffee appeared instantly. And cheerfully. Diet coke instead of coffee, no problem. Right away. Got the eggs Benedict. Two big eggs on Canadian bacon eh... on English muffin. I don't make bernaise or hollandaise very often so this was a treat. And it was darn good. The potatoe pancakes took a minute to adjust to as the texture is strange. Added the sour cream on one and the apple sauce on the other. Thinking sour cream and hot sauce is the key. Wife got Dutch baby with strawberries and nanners. Killer. I cannot figure out how to steal this yet. Hot syrup. Real butter. They let you linger even when there is a crowd, which is nice, but impolite. The service is awesome and tons of staff... I'll go back next time in town and get the same things. read more

Do people really love this place as much as the ratings suggest, or is it really just representative in relation to the local options? We went and left totally unimpressed by the food. We tried dollar pancakes, for which they charged extra for "real" maple syrup...which itself didn't really taste like quality maple syrup (I mean, we're Canadian, so have certain expectations...). The pancakes weren't anything better than we could make ourselves; kind of plain. I ordered the famous Dutch Baby since reviews rave about it. I have no idea what the big deal is...it is basically an eggy crepe in the shape of an empty pie. I guess it is supposed to be like a giant Yorkshire pudding (which I've never been much of a fan of to begin with). It comes with tons of butter, lemon wedges, and icing sugar on the side...you pay extra to add strawberries and banana. I had to add the fake maple syrup as well...and I kind of thought to myself, I'll just keep eating since I'm hungry and its here...nothing to write home about! I should mention that the service was promoted despite the place being packed, and we were overwhelmed by the number of times we were asked if we wanted more coffee! read more
