we showed up around 4:30 pm, fairly close to closing time, so the market had a noticeably more…read morerelaxed feel than it probably does earlier in the day. there were still plenty of people wandering through the covered aisles, browsing the colourful displays and making their final purchases. the covered section has long rows of produce stalls tucked beneath the concrete arches, with vendors on both sides displaying piles of fruits and vegetables. crates overflow with heirloom tomatoes, peppers, onions, potatoes and other seasonal produce, while huge bunches of braided garlic hang overhead, adding even more character to the space. even late in the afternoon, the colours and abundance were impressive. vendors were still proudly displaying their produce, although you could definitely sense the market winding down for the day. we picked up strawberries, blueberries and some adorable little physalis, still tucked inside their papery, lantern like husks. everything looked fresh, colourful and reasonably priced. and after all that browsing, we found a little table to sit and enjoy our berries right there at the market. honestly, not a bad way to end a market visit. tip: if you want the full jean talon experience and the widest selection, i'd go earlier in the day. arriving around 4:30 pm worked well for us because it was less hectic, but some vendors were already getting ready to wrap up.

There are also a few places to eat, we ended up at a bakery cafe at the end upstairs. They had different sandwiches and focaccia similar to a pizza type. They heat these up so it was perfect to eat right away. *Warning* There was a an issue of not being labeled nut and asking the worker if there was any and they said no but after confirming with the cook there was walnut in the bread. So I would be extra careful about that. Other than that they had foie gras for sale as well as many other places that had it as well. There were a few grocery stores and butcher shops so there is a lot to choose from if you are looking for different types. There were a few dessert places but the place isn't too big with more variety for grocery food items.

Great selection of berries and tomatoes... super large tomatoes on the vine that looked divine! For me, what stood out the most was the large selection of local honey - I have found it difficult to find this in shops/supermarkets but this market has a good variety of honey from different flowers and farms. I also noticed that the market is open until late, ideal for students and locals in the area!

Because of covid you need to buy tickets ahead of time and you get a time slot to go enjoy the farm. The entry fee is 10$ per person. Once you arrive you get a bracelet and can pick up any prepaid bags for you apples or you can pay for them there. You can then check out some of the farm animals or let the kids use the slide and climb around the play area. Once your ready to pick the apples or pumpkins or even corn, you hop on the tractor and then pick your stop to get off at when they announce what fruits/veggies are available. You get to pick them and take them home ! They have washing stations for the veg as well. Once your done wait for the tractor to pick you up and head back home and bake your heart away !

In the summer months they offer a farmers market. It's closed however in the Winter. Today I came here to pick strawberries with my daughter. It is an awesome mid June activity. Especially having the day off for St Jean. For $8 you get a great 3L paper basket and fill it till she's overflowing with some of the freshest and tastiest strawberries around. I didn't ask what pesticide they use here but I really wanted to. Makes me think.....I always wonder how much pesticide they use. They definitely need some but. I wonder how bad it will be for my health? The same basket you can buy a basket of already picked for $9 by the cash register. I bought the same sized basket for $12 last weekend at Marche Jean Talon. The taste of the strawberries was amazing. For me this is one of the many wonderful flavours of summer! Walking down to the strawberry patch today they did have a bunch of greenhouses chock full of tomatoes. In the late summer their fields are brimming with fresh corn also. Fresh fruit and vegetables at their roadside market store is a great inexpensive alternative to the grocery store. They also have some selection of fresh dessert pies and relishes and other canned delights. Parking is limited and it fills up fast. I'd recommend coming earlier in the day. After 11 AM the lot is full and much busier. There is a small playground area for kids and picnic benches if you want to bring a lunch and make a great family activity out of it. A terrific outdoor activity for a few hours and place to stop in and get a taste of summer!
