For context the stylist I've been to for years is based in Baltimore and with how traffic can get I can't justify spending 40% of my saturday going to Baltimore to get my hair done. So I began the search looking for a new hairstyle salon. Tried Alexandria, Springfield, even Fairfax. But none have provided what I need and certainly not justifiable of the price it commanded. So I tried HairSocial because I found it on Google and I liked I can book online. My hair appointment consists of the following: Wash, Blow Dry, and an undercut. Sometimes I'll get it flat-ironed depending on the occasion. So I booked 4 days in advance and when I arrived for my appointment I had to wait 20 mins after my actual time (for context it was a Sunday afternoon and no one else was in the shop except for one customer). When I was seated I was only given a haircut and nothing else despite asking for a hair wash and a blowout. Considering I had to put a downpayment online to book the appointment I naturally felt bamboozled. They offered to do what I originally asked but they said I had to wait an hour. I didn't have time as I had a family dinner I had to attend so I decided to go home and wash my own hair. Before I left, the front desk offered to refund me on my card and then said no and could only offer me a credit. The credit was tied to my account yet the credit isn't available when you book online you can only access the credit if you call to set up an appointment. Extremely disappointed but the stylist did a great job with my haircut. I'm just disappointed that I didn't get what I paid for at a reasonable time. Thankfully the management of the loc in Tysons Corner set things right and as a result despite this location being closer to me I go out of my way to visit the HairSocial in Tyson's Corner (that review will be coming shortly).

I asked if he could style it like in the reference pictures I showed (simple waves, to reduce Farquaad-ness). He tried to do it with the brush/dryer, which obviously wasn't working, and didn't want to use a flatiron. So I just suffered through scalding heat on my scalp and hair pulling. I got told I don't have curly hair. I got told I don't have frizzy hair. I, in fact, have both of those. Some other minor things: 1. When I got home I had some hair that was noticeably longer than the rest, like it never got cut. So...I had to do it. Just a few strands, but normally stylists check for that when your hair is dry. 2. I almost never use heat on my hair, so I asked for recs and mentioned a specific brand doesn't work for me. He immediately said he loves that brand. I said yeah...but it doesn't work for me. Anything else? "Any salon brand." Cool. Not helpful. 3. Asked for something at the end to tame the pieces that were sticking out (again, I have frizzy hair). He looked...confused? Smoothing as a last step has been standard at every other place I've been to. There is nothing in the whole salon like that? Also, my introvert-self just wants to go somewhere where I don't have to be engaged in conversation the whole time. Anyway. Won't go back, my hunt continues.

She reached out to me via DM and offered to help me with my hair-mergency. I previously went to a salon in Falls Church where my hair was cut unevenly(one side longer than the other/thinner than the other), severely thinned out at the bottom and given choppy "layers"(if you could even call them that. Initially I wasn't able to tell walking out of the salon due to the way the stylist had blew out my hair - it was only when I washed it for the first time that I noticed it. I was too embarrassed to even take photos of my hair and tried to hide it the best I could by curling it again for work. Julie did an amazing job saving what she could of my hair. She evened out the bottom as best as it could be (there is still some thinness/patchiness just due to the previous stylist) but I couldn't be more grateful for her time and work. If you're ever in need of a great service, I highly recommend seeing Julie and taking advantage of her 20+ years of knowledge/experience.

I called the salon and the manager Sebastian was very apologetic and quick to help. Fadi then called me back and offered to correct the service for free if she wanted to give them another shot. Needless to say Fadi and his team went above and beyond to ensure she got exactly what she wanted the first time. It's a night and day difference. He was so kind and the smile on her face after he finished cutting and coloring her hair was worth it. I'm confident she will return to see Fadi. Maybe we chalk the bad first experience up to an off day or a miscommunication with the first stylist? Either way, hats off to Fadi and Sebastian for their service. I got a root touch up, and it was one of the worst experiences ever. First off, the place itself was super tiny. I'm not even claustrophobic, but I was having a hard time in such a tiny space. The fumes from the solution were so strong that Jian himself had to step out. Not to mention, when I got my hair done for the first time, it was in Nepal, a third world country. The service was much better there, and the price was MUCH cheaper over there. Jian charged me $300 dollars for a touch up when I got my whole head (a bit longer than shoulder length) done for $40. Speaking of Jian, he was so rough with my hair! I genuinely felt like a ragdoll or something! He was yanking me by the hair every which way. I honestly felt like just up and leaving at some points because I was so upset with the service, but I told myself to just push through. Also, he told me to wash my hair before going there. In a third world country they washed my hair for me, and I'm pretty dang sure it's procedure for the hair stylish to wash your hair for you! Going based on my first straightening, they washed my hair a total of three times: once in the beginning, once after the first treatment solution was applied, and once after the second, and last, treatment solution was applied. Jian did not wash my hair once, only rinsing. What really sent me over the edge was him asking, "Do you have oil? Do you use it in your hair?" Excuse me? You were supposed to be washing my hair, why would I use my hair oils if I thought you were going to be washing them off?!? All in all, this experience was horrible. I'd rather spend $2,000 on a flight ticket to and from Nepal and sit through a 21 hour (connecting) flight to get my hair touched up in Nepal than go back to Jian's. Also, one last complaint, my roots are not even straight. It's been about a month since I've been there, but even immediately afterwards, my roots didn't lay flat. Please save your money - and your scalp - by buying a perming solution online and asking a friend/family member to help you apply it. I initially scheduled a consultation with the owner, Tony, where I clearly communicated the look I wanted and provided multiple reference photos of an ashy, chocolate-toned balayage. He assured me it was achievable. However, on the day of my appointment, there was no follow-up consultation or discussion before beginning the service. I was the only client in the salon, yet he immediately began applying what I believe was bleach without reviewing the plan or confirming the tones. While processing under the dryer, I was left completely unattended for an extended period. My scalp began to burn, and there was no staff present to assist me. When Tony eventually returned, I expressed my discomfort and was simply told to sit without heat--this was concerning and unprofessional. The end result was far from what I requested. Instead of the soft, ashy balayage we discussed, my hair turned out with harsh, orange-toned highlights and significant damage. The styling afterward was rushed and did not reflect professional standards. After contacting the salon, I was offered a correction appointment. Unfortunately, the second visit only worsened the condition of my hair. The same lack of care and attention was evident, and my hair was further damaged without achieving the desired result. I paid $450 for this service, and instead of feeling confident and celebrated, I left feeling embarrassed and upset. This experience not only fell short of expectations but also lacked the professionalism, communication, and care that clients deserve--especially when trusting someone with such an important service. I cannot recommend this salon based on my experience.
