This review is almost UNFAIR. This place is my living room away from home every couple weeks, on Singer/Songwriter Saturdays, Sunny Sundays or anytime I get a reason to buy something in the strip- it's a given- I'll be stopping here. It's dusty, it's Smokey, it's eclectic, it's 'tight', not uptight, not tight knit, but slightly cramped. When the weather is nice, the sun is shining- the sidewalk is full of tables & chairs. But... this place ultimately is a coffee/cappuccino/espresso/coffee drink shop with a smoking clientele and other clientele that can endure the smell for a few minutes while Jess & Sean make some of the best blended coffee drinks in the Strip. This is the epitome of Pittsburgh in my humble opinion. As a Pittsburgh native I thought i had been to the most authentic places in the Burgh, but I have since been corrected. I'm obsessed with this place! Its such a unique coffee shop to go to and it has the best vibes. They also have live music on Sundays and its super nice to sit there and listen. I haven't found another place in pittsburgh with a vibe like this and I like to spend my Sundays here. It's not a place you go to do work persay, but the people there are nice and i like relaxing there for a little. The coffee is really good and they have a ton of different options too. This was a great find. The staff were nice and helpful. The interior is decorated with a variety of interesting things. There is plenty of interior seating and several sets of outdoor seats with umbrellas. It is just off Penn so there is not a lot of traffic noise. This place is amazing. It's like Jimmy Buffet and Trader Joe's had a cigar smoking, coffee drinking baby. They have their own line of cigars plus many more to choose from. You pick a cigar and order coffee when you pay. The entire place is decorated like a tropical dystopian hide away. You can relax inside or outside and smoke your cigars and you sip at your coffee. The bathrooms are public tor ANYONE to use. Which is lovely. There is a note outside the bathroom asking for donations to keep it running because the owner wants to keep it available to those who need it. This place was fun and relaxing and probably one of our favorite parts of our visit. I bought a sticker of the owner and he proudly sticks to my water bottle. This past weekend was no exception. 3 only for the following reasons, and I completely understand the new processes due to Covid, and the amount of foot traffic due to the weather on Saturday: 1. Very crowded, both inside and out. Granted it was 85° 2. Gentleman assisting in the humidor probably had good intentions. Watching me like a hawk as if I intended to pocket some cigars, however, made me feel very uneasy. Next time I'm in PIT, I will visit Leaf and Bean! I'm hoping for a better experience!! read more

Leaf & Bean is one of my favorite hang outs in the strip! We come normally on Sunday afternoons, get a cigar and chill outside. They have a huge selection of cigars and have non alcoholic beverages for purchase. The inside is very unique and decorated with a lot of nick nacks. The bathrooms were heated which was great when we sat outside! If you are visiting the strip I highly recommend stopping! read more

As I am new to the area and still exploring, I decided to venture down to the Strip District in search of local coffee. While my original destination was La Prima, I parked on 22nd St. and saw the sign for Leaf & Bean. Do keep in mind that parking is mostly going to be paid street parking and at times could be hard to find. I use to go to a great little Cigar, Craft Beer and Coffee shop over in NE Ohio so my interest was high. I love the look of this place inside and out. You feel like you walked into Cuba. The decor is spot on for the feel I believe they are going for here. I didn't have much time so took a quick look around and they look to have an excellent selection of Cigars with all the mainstays you would expect. There were various seating areas for all of your needs and I was greeted by a gentleman right away who was very helpful in assisting me with selecting some coffee beans to take home. There were a dozen or more selections of whole bean coffees which I was told is roasted in house. Always a plus because you know it is fresh! 1/2 pounds are $6.99 and pounds are $10.99. I settled on what I was told is a local favorite, Dancing Bear. I can attest that it is delicious as I'm sipping on a cup this morning while I write this review. I will definitely be back for more Coffee and Cigars. I wish I had more time the day I was in for a cigar but it didn't happen. I can see this being a normal stop this spring and summer to sit outside in the evenings. With that in mind, I was also told while checking out that it is BYOB so feel free to bring your favorite to pair with a cigar! read more

They have a huge array of cigars as well as nice, chill areas to smoke them. I believe you can also have a drink or two while you are smoking your awesome new cigars. I found this place on yelp when I was looking for a place to kill time before a doctor appointment. I thought the leaf meant tea, but no it's cigars. Hanging out here reminds me of when I lived in the Bahamas and would smoke Cuban cigarettes. Alas, I have asthma now and can't smoke any more, but I got a fine cup of tea. It's name is leaf and bean, NOT bean and leaf so if you are looking for a place to have coffee, understand this is primarily a smoke shop. If smoke offends you don't come here. If you want a coffee to enjoy with your cigar, then you've hit the jackpot. I enjoy a good cigar and appreciate the novelty and cavalier atmosphere of the place. Sort of a Key West feel (or a third world Caribbean country) without the beach. Big difference I know. But the unique assortment of cigars available nowhere else in the Burgh make it a legit destination. And the outdoor seating encourages you to light up, sit on the sidewalk and enjoy some of the Strip district sights! Leaf and Bean is such a fun place. From all the eclectic junk on the walls, to their well stocked humidor, they have it all covered. And great coffee, too. I went to Leaf & Bean to grab a quick cup of iced coffee on a Sunday morning with my friend, Whitney. They were slower than usual, I think because their sign that's usually displayed on Penn Avenue wasn't out. Still, the fine gentleman who's always working, was happy to make my coffee, and help me with a cigar purchase. He also educated me on a few of the other cigars that I didn't specifically come in for, but I was glad to learn about. They carry several name brand cigars, Ashton to Tortuga Reserva, and everything in between. They also have their own line, of more budget friendly cigars. This time, same as the last, the fine gentleman suggested their brand, but I was on the hunt for something special. For $20, I got away with a "very" good Cohiba, and a giant sized iced coffee. Can't beat that. This place is considerably more classy than Blume in the South Side. I highly recommend, as long as you are okay with the mild smell of Cigars. read more

I don't smoke cigars but I hang out in humidors a fair amount with my hubby while he's making his selections & certainly appreciate the aroma of a good cigar both inside a humidor & after he fires one up. In fact the aroma of a good cigar typically accompanies an afternoon beer on our front porch. The atmosphere at Leaf & Bean in the Strip is super cool. You feel like you just wandered down the street in Belize or Nicaragua & found this place with a bunch of locals sitting around enjoying some fine hand rolled cigars. Open air & a definite Caribbean vibe. The owners wife gave us a super introduction to the great stuff in the humidor and turned us on to the 1502s they carry from Nicaragua. Turns out 1502 is the year Columbus bumped into Nicaragua after he'd discovered America. The cigar manufacturer happened to be in the shop and she kindly introduced us after my guy purchased some to try. Very cool! The selection isn't as extensive as some other places we've been but the atmosphere is awesome. It is called LEAF and bean, so yes, it is a cigar shop, if you don't like cigar smoke, it might not be the place for you. That being said, they usually have the front opened up, so you will not be fumigated. I love this place for several reasons: Their cigars are awesome, and they have a great variety. They have anything from bold to mild, and flavored. Their house cigars are great, they're made in Honduras; my favorite is the Connecticut. Their coffee is great. I usually get a chai latte iced or hot, with a Leaf & Bean Connecticut or a chocolate mint flavored cigar. The environment is relaxed and casual. There are always the regulars you'll see pretty much every time, and they're always welcoming to new people. Pretty much every time I go, I'm offered some type of beer or pizza, lol. The people working there are always friendly, and answer the phone with, "Leaf & Bean, coolest place on the strip..." ...agreed. The staff was very knowledgeable and assisted him in finding the perfect cigar for his friend. He ordered a coffee and was in love. We return every time we are in the strip now! We stopped by once on a gorgeous day, ordered iced tea and coffee and decided to try out a cigar. My boyfriend got a blondie, which I tried and didn't mind. It had a light flavor- which was good for someone like me who doesn't smoke, let alone smoke cigars. They have live music on the weekends- making it an awesome hang out spot. We sat out on the patio, listened to music and enjoyed the beautiful day. Having said that, the cigar smell is extremely pungent and the place is usually loud- making it a not ideal place for people who come to coffee shops to work or study. Think of it as more of a hangout spot and you won't be disappointed. As far as their drinks go, I have had their apple cider, hot tea and cold tea. Their apple cider was nothing special, neither was their hot tea. But I did enjoy their iced cold tea. My boyfriend on the other hand, ADORES their medium roast coffee. This is a funky little cigar and coffee shop. Admittedly I had never stopped in because usually there are men sitting at tables outside with their cigars and coffee. It looks like a MEN ONLY club. However, it was winter and no crowd of men out front so we decided to step in and have coffee. It was quite a learning experience. First of all the coffee is very good. I recommend it. The coolest part is their humidor. I love the door to it. It's funky just like the decor. Inside there was a woman who educated me about the line of cigars of the owner. They are wrapped in a tobacco leaf instead of cellophane. I learned a lot. Besides the owner's line of cigars they had lots of other brands as well. I didn't have time to sit and smoke a cigar but I will make it back to do that. If you stop in sometime you might see me sitting amongst the Boy's Club. read more

OK this place is great. I stopped with a co worker who wanted me to check it out after we were complaining about our awful in office coffee last week. Yes, the coffee was good, great even and I'll be back for that, since I work in the strip district, but let move on to what elevates this place shall we? I've got to admit, I've seen coffee shop hybrids before. Coffee shop + wine bar. Coffee shop + bakery. Coffee Shop + gourmet sandwich shop. But this is the first time I'd ever seen a coffee shop mixed with a cigar bar. I went right around 4pm on a Saturday afternoon, which is right around closing time. They had iced coffee but not any iced tea. The iced coffee I got was moderate. Both the inside and the outside of the shop can definitely be described as funky and unique. If you like to smoke, particularly cigars, I can see how Leaf & Bean would be a great place for you. If you're more of a yuppie like myself that likes coffee shops for the coffee and the wifi, you probably will probably feel a little awkward here. read more
