The owner is great and the property is very well cared for. We always visit during the week when the park is quiet. Restrooms are spotless. Huge pool and spa. Gorgeous night skies. Dog run and horseshoe pit available. Cellphone and internet are limited but we come for the peace and quiet. Can get really windy so be prepared if you're in a small travel trailer like us. We have been going out to Borrego Springs area with our camping group for years. This year the spot that we normally were going to was sold out for the holiday weekend. We sure were glad to find the Leaping Lizard....Great Place All of the reviews on the outstanding condition of the park are on spot. The owners obviously take pride in what they created and do enforce the rules and they tell you so on the web site. We were a group of 4 rigs and 5 jeeps. We had fires and dinner as a group every night outside. We dont get roudy, but we had the radio on, group fun while having a few beverages, playing cornhole and never has any issues about the noise we created. Pro's: Clean well maintained facilities and restrooms. Pool, jacuzzi, dog park Friendly staff Full hookups: 30 and 50 amp circuits Tree-lined spots 2 small stores and a place to grab a bite withing 2 min drive. Also the Iron door bar. Cons: No cell service at the campground, except for right next to the office where they have a coverage extender. No 20amp circut on the power pole read more

If the Zombie apocalypse ever occurs this is the first place we are going to go! :) Leaping Lizard does it right! To set your expectations it is in the middle of the vast Colorado Desert and the park itself offers fairly standard amenities as RV Parks go. LL has a couple things going for it. First and the most noticeable is that the owners love this place with all of their heart. They run a tight, clean and friendly place. Second, the location is awesome if you are into the Ocotillo Well SRVA off-roading state park and want to take in sights around the Salton Sea. This is an road enthusiast's dream out here! LL does a good job catering to both folks that bring their toys and those that are there just to take it all in. Kudos to the owners and folks at Leapin Lizard! As word to the connected techies: Wifi is offered but is very slow and highly restricted as the service comes via satellite. Verizon wireless service is sparse at best depending on which way the wind is blowing (seriously). However they do have a Verizon wireless repeater at the office. The range only extends a couple feet outside of the office but you can get better signal there. Also, Ocotillo Springs is about 15 miles away and they have LTE service there. read more

My husband and I camp and hike a lot. We've stayed at many campgrounds and were relatively happy with them. Leapin Lizard was exceptional to say the least! Most immaculate, clean and well loved campground we've been to. Each campsite was separated by beautiful large Tamerisk trees. We stayed here a couple of times, they have a "no riding motorcycles, quads and such throughout the park, I get that, they can be noisy and disturb the guests and kick up dust. My nephew has a rock crawler (pretty much a Jeep but not street legal because of hydraulic steering) just as quiet as a by car definitely more quiet than my diesel pusher motor home, anyway he was very politely (under 5 mph) bringing it in to load up his young son and wife and supplies cooler & these people flipped out on him, he tried to tell them he was just coming in for 5 minutes to load up, listen there were only 15 to 20 other campers there total, most if not all other jeepers because it was last years TDS. This should not have been a conflict! We would also sit out early cooking dinner and listening to country music at a level I would at any other park without problem. Not here! Was told to turn music down the first time I thought that's weird, but turned it down to a level that guy said was ok, & 30 minutes later (maybe 7:30 at night) I get asked to turn it down more by a different person, at this point I turned it off as you couldn't hear it anymore anyway. The only people around me was my nephew, no one else could have heard it. Hey when I'm unwinding, music at a respectable volume is part of that. Anyway that place needs to re evaluate its existence. On a positive note bathrooms are clean and nice although I question them closing them for an hour for cleaning daily when most people are just getting ready for a shower and bathrooms. I personally will not go back. Too many other places just as clean that your not over controlled. read more

We can't wait to return to Leapin' Lizard for many reasons! The managers are super friendly and accommodating (they even pulled out flashlights and helped us guide into our spot at 8:30 at night), there are fun activities, the restrooms are clean, and the price is right. Let me focus on the restrooms. They are fully tiled and have about 20 times more tile than mine at home. The grout lines are spotless. Yes, I noticed this and was constantly amazed by it because I fail at keeping my grout clean. Leapin' Lizard has a dog run, children's play area, and horseshoe pits. We liked the convenient location of all these amenities because we were able to unleash our dog in the dog run while our children played at the playground, and my husband and I kept an eye on all of them while we played horseshoes and sipped adult beverages! read more

My father and mother in law recently moved their 5th wheel out here for the 2nd season ina row. This is definitely going to be the park we keep coming to for years! This is known as being one of the quietest and more low key "resorts" in the area. They strictly manage the noise and commotion in and around the park, which is nice for a family like ours with younger children. We don't have to worry about a speeding 14year old on a dirt bike or a giant buggy taking out a careless 2 year old. The park is rustic and filled with evergreens, bark on the ground and older décor such as the "playground" that features a swing set, a sand box (in the desert of all places) and two giant tires half buried in the dirt. However, nothing seems dirty. Everything seems as though it is just as old as it should be. For instance the park is made of many large evergreen type trees...However, there are not branches and needles everywhere. It is as if someone comes by and sweeps the dirt road and spots clean. They also have a few "older" style trailers that you can rent. While they are obviously older units, they are very new on the inside and well appointed. Kinda a statement on the entire place as a whole. The gems of the complex, at least so far, are the bathrooms (go figure!)....You are pretty much camping in the desert , but you can head on over to immaculate tile bathrooms, with hot showers, toilets and even magazines (at least in the guys bathrooms). It is nice that they are kept so clean. Immediately next to the bathrooms is the "pool area" which has a half finished 5ft deep pool with a great cabana area and a half finished GIANT hot tub. This is a family owned complex and it looks like they are paying cash for the small expansions which I believe would put the pool area opening next season or so. Get on out to the desert people. Even if you are a city person like me...Rent a quad, get some sand in your teeth , watch the "Regulars" fly up Blow Sand or cheat death over at Devil's slide and have a good time! When it is time to crash, head on over to the Leapin Lizard and be ready to do it all over again! read more

Looks like a nice park. The lady who checks you in isn't very hospitable. Weird rules like you have to push your ATV into and out of the park with the engine off, kids can't ride bicycles/skateboards in the park, weird pool rules, etc. Seemed like a nice park but definitely not family friendly. She just gave off a kind of unwelcoming, suspicious of guests vibe. read more

I was invited to go on a short overnight trip to take our Rhino out riding in Ocotillo Wells State Park and stayed at the Leapin' Lizard RV Ranch. Our family rented the Dennis Trailer...very cute and retro! The trailer was very clean and had special touches that you would find in a 5 Star Hotel. The public restrooms and showers were top notch with regards to style and being clean. The RV Park is nice and quiet at all hours and controls the noise from all recreational vehicles coming in & out the park which is great for anyone who wants to relax anytime of the day. I highly recommend staying there if you're new to dessert riding &/or camping. It can help you get your feet wet before you dive into buying a trailer and parking it in the middle of the desert. I'm sticking to the RV parks with hookups! read more

Five stars, not because it looks like Disneyland! We loved it because we had a great campsite for our RV with excellent shower/bathroom facilities. We were there the weekend after Thanksgiving and it got windy at night, but lots of trees for protection. Good enough that we had a fire every night. We loved the location for our jeep fun. On the border of Ocotillo Wells and Anza Borrego. I can't say enough about how pleasant everybody working there was. Mind you, this isn't the place to party like rockstars and wreak havoc. There is a big, old desert out there to get stupid. This place was meant for peace of mind and convenience. The only down side is there isn't any nearby gas. Bring it with you or take a nice cruise into Borrego Springs (15 minutes) and see all the metal sculptures. Can't wait to go back! read more

This is one of my more conflicted and difficult reviews. Is this a 5 star RV park compared to all RV parks, no. Is it a 5 star RV park for Ocotillo Wells, YES. I stayed during new years weekend. It was a busy weekend for Ocotillo Wells with thousands of people in off road vehicles from dawn till midnight ripping it up just down the street from this place. It's evident from my stay that the people who work here and the owners take GREAT pride in the park and work hard to keep it clean and running smooth. I had my dog with me and enjoyed the fact they had a dog run where I could let her go while playing with my kids in the simple but kid entertaining play area. One of the long term residence freaked out on me due to the noise which my kids and other kids we were camping with were making. I don't think they were doing anything out of control warranting such a response but I do understand how it must feel with a busy weekend and 'outsiders' coming in to stay with kids and the noise we bring. If I go back to Ocotillo Wells, I'd defiantly stay here again. read more

This RV Park / campground is in the middle of the Ocotillo Wells OHV area and is a non-friendly ATV facility. If you're an ATV'r, you're treated not as nice as just the RVers. The female owner needs to lighten up a bit. read more

I happened in as a winter visitor on Halloween night, only planning to stay a month and ending up staying 7 months! The owners are super accommodating, and meticulous about maintaining everything. Plus I really feel safe here as a single-by-choice female. I know you have probably heard rave reviews about the gleaming white ceramic tile restrooms, and do I have a shower in my 5th wheel but prefer using the immaculate shower/restroom facilities. They even fold the T.P. like a fancy hotel. This place is top notch and the best part is they have a brand new super LUXE POOL/Jacuzzi now, probably the best pool around Borrego Springs. I have been coming to Leapin Lizard RV Ranch with my family for about the past 6-7 years. We have always enjoyed it here. The most wonderful owners/management, husband and wife team run it and it is immaculately cared for. I have stayed in the RV spots for the most part and they are large and feel private with the trees between each space. On my last visit I stayed in their rental trailer "Dennis" and absolutely loved it! It is vintage and charming beyond words if you enjoy that sort of thing. They have thought of everything here. And I do mean everything. The only difficulty is that my boyfriend is 6'4" and showering in the trailer is definitely more suited to my 5' frame. It was easily remedied by a short walk to the bathrooms which are kept squeaky clean. Wi-fi is limited and cell service can be a struggle to maintain but I am ok with it as I'm always here for rest and relaxation and the disconnect makes it easier to sit back and enjoy my time here with family. Fantastic policies in regards to off road vehicles. It is the desert, so the push in and out helps keep down dust and noise. I recommend Leapin Lizard to everyone I know that off roads or rv's. My family and I spent five days at Leapin'Lizard RV ranch - I was a great experience!. The staff is very helpful. We got there after dark because of traffic and they went out of there way to help us into our spot. It has easy access to Ocotillo Wells SVRA and it is about 10 minutes drive to the Ocotillo Wells Discovery Center. The staff at Leapin'Lizard was TOP NOTCH! The are always eager to help. Sue, Starr and the Deborah were Awesome! The bathrooms absolutely clean and spotless - I've never seen any other park with such clean facilities. The park is quiet and very nice. I see it as a gem in the dessert. This is definitely the park we will continue to use when visiting Ocotillo Wells. read more
