Leaping Lizard RV is the "Diamond Resort" in Ocotillo Wells. No one can match the location, site layout and amenities such as a pool, RC track, horse shoes, playground, dog run and More. Seriously this site is so well maintained and has a Great atmosphere, Quiet and Safe. The owners have done so much to make this the Premier RV site in OCW. We can not say enough. This is our family's Desert RV vacation location for years to come! Seriously a Great place to relax with you family and friends.

My husband and I camp and hike a lot. We've stayed at many campgrounds and were relatively happy with them. Leapin Lizard was exceptional to say the least! Most immaculate, clean and well loved campground we've been to. Each campsite was separated by beautiful large Tamerisk trees. My husband couldn't believe how clean the bathrooms and the showers were. Thanks to our hosts, we had a great stay!

Five stars for this great RV park! Beautifully run and organized. Super clean showers and toilets and great wide shady parking spots. On top of all this is s lovely swimming pool and jacuzzi. We always stay here and visit at least six or seven times a year. Best price too! Can't beat the Leapin Lizard!

We highly recommend this place. Thank you. We enjoyed our stay.

Unique family run & built. Hard to find but with it. They made it interesting & off the major roadways so it nice and quite too.

There is a restaurant, bar and multiple pool areas on site which is very nice when you are remote (no Ubers and no service). Staff was very friendly and kind, bartender Jay was an EXCEPTIONAL host who has created a fun environment in the bar, killer playlists and even set up karaoke for his guests upon request. Highly recommended getting a cheeseburger and meeting the locals who reside on the property. Cannot thank them enough for having us and showing us around. Would love to go back next time to hike and have some more downtime for the pool. THANK YOU JAY & TEAM. Can't wait to visit again.

Be prepared to go about a mile on an extremely dusty, bumpy road once you get off the I-8 offramp. So don't wash your car before this trip. Many different ways of staying. I chose a room that was part of a small 6 room motel section, two of the rooms are wheel chair accessible with a ramp & wheel chair friendly shower. The narrow room was clean. Bed comfortable enough. Heater worked well when outdoor night temperatures went down to the upper 30°F's in late November. Price at about $160 per night was expensive considering it is basic accommodation in the middle of nowhere which was fine with me since I value quiet & silence. Close to Jacumba Hot Springs Resort which is rather classy and was my original goal since Jacumba Restaurant Caravan Lounge, where I was dining, was hosting a pop up dinner by noted Chef Brian Redzikowski. After dinner, I got to soak my feet in the heated, curative sulfur spring pool. Unfortunately, the rather large pool at De Anza Springs does not have those healthful sulfur waters. When I called by phone to make a reservation, Patty was very informative telling me: "There is no internet nor phone access at the locked entry gate to the property. So I should receive the new entry code about a day before the reservation date. If not, be sure to contact the main office which closes at 5pm." I assume that if you anticipate getting there after 5pm, it would be recommended to call the office before the 5pm closure to make arrangements for late arrival. De Anza is good for what it is. Basic accommodations that are adequate. Btw, great star gazing for those astronomically inclined. 3 stars

The moonlight created an almost mystical atmosphere, making the desert feel like another planet. We set up our tent beside a stone ramada with a table and fireplace. The cleanest toilet we've ever seen was just steps away, which was a luxurious touch. Since it wasn't peak season, typically from March to April when wildflowers are in bloom and again from autumn onward, the park was quieter. We checked in with the DIY machine at the entrance of the campground, and friendly ranchers were around to offer help if needed. One rancher suggested that if we wanted to hike, we should start early and finish by 8:30am before the temperatures began to rise. ( Just a tip: download a campsite map beforehand because there's no internet service in the park) The desert, lit up by the moon, looked like something from another world. Rugged rock formations and the wide open space felt never ending, and with the moonlight highlighting the cool details of the landscape. The desert was so quiet and empty, It felt like the world had melted away, leaving just us and the serene, mystical surroundings.. Next morning, the heat cut our hike short with our cat, and it was a bit of an ordeal. Cats can be more sensitive to the heat, and she had a breathing issue and gasping for air right after we started hiking. We had to quickly rushed back to the car to help her cool down. So just be aware if you plan to bring your pets along. Despite this, that night remained a magical mix of peace and wonder, a cherished experience that I'll never forget.
