My sister sent me to Learning Express on Severn in Metairie to pick up a NeeDoh drop for my nieces. When I arrived around 4:00 PM, during the middle of a hot New Orleans summer afternoon, customers were being made to wait outside despite there being very few people inside the store. There were numerous children and families standing outside in the heat, which was frustrating and unnecessary. What made it even worse was that once we were finally allowed inside, we still had to stand in line anyway. There was plenty of room in the store behind me for the people who had been waiting outside, so the decision to keep everyone in the heat made no sense. The entire process felt poorly organized and poorly managed. Making families and children wait outside in extreme summer temperatures when there was available space inside is unacceptable. This was one of the most frustrating retail experiences I've had, and management needs to seriously rethink how they handle busy releases and customer flow. read more

If you're in the market for well made, thoughtful, educational toys, this is a great place to stop. They carry toys for kids of all ages. It's a small place, but it's full of good stuff. They also host weekend events where the kids can learn to use some of the trendier items. Today I was shopping for my favorite twins and got help from a very knowledgeable sales lady. She helped me find some really cute sticker books, and paint WITHOUT water activity books. If you have little ones, you understand why painting without water - or even paint - is such an awesome idea! The store is sort of sectioned off by age group and activity type. The front of the store is dedicated to crafty kits, to the right you can find some outdoor activities, there's a section in the middle of the store where you can find small, less expensive items in bins - we spend a lot of time there checking out the cute, tiny stuff, and the back of the store is dedicated to really little ones. They always seem to have the super trendy stuff the kids are into. We've been there through so many trends - fidget spinners, beanie boos, rainbow loom, and now we go there for Thinking Putty when we just HAVE to have it. (Total eyeroll and sigh here) They have a punch card system where you can earn store credit to purchase merchandise. I have to talk up their staff. I have always been greeted when walking in, and have always been given friendly assistance. They gift wrap, offer a birthday registry, and if you are on their mailing list you receive coupons. read more

This is a lovely, personal toy shop with great service. The wrap for free. There are unique items and lots of learning toys for different ages and levels in addition to some fun childhood classics and quirky retro items. They have a unique service where you may purchase plastic items that can be personalized artistically with paint pens by their staff. The price for this is modest and have made for well received and economical birthday presents for the many birthday parties we attend of classmates and friends. There is a lot of inventory for a compact store and the staff will provide good recommendations if you ask. read more

This place is usually amazing. We told an employee what we were looking for and within seconds she made several great recommendations. One was a toy box that in itself isn't a huge deal, but check this out. After we give it as a birthday present, it can be brought back and customized with the name of the birthday girl. Oh yea, FREE wrapping. Oh yea, we got a great picture with a minion! Oh yea, they had some kind of toy trading table for some type of collectibles. This place has really, really impressed me. The toys weren't even as expensive as I would have expected. Pretty reasonable and even more so when you factor in free customization or writing of the child's name on the toy and gift wrapping. I don't know about you, but to me, I have this anxiety attack when I go to a giant toy store. I mean, granted, I have a 3-year old and going to a large toy store creates a great entertaining value for her. However, if I just need to go pick up something quick, I really don't want to just go in and search every aisle with no help. So, I needed to go pick up birthday presents for my niece today and to minimize the time spent there, I know what kind of things I wanted to get her. As soon as I got in, the lady who works there was greeting me and asked if I needed any help, so I told her that I wanted to get a toy box and something that she can build things with (like Legos), she immediately gave me options and suggestions and literally, I finished shopping in 5 minutes. Also, they wrap everything for you too if needed. Items there are mostly the same as large toy stores. If you join their VIP "texting" club, you get $10 off purchase of $40 or more. One last great thing, they can personalize everything for you for free so if you buy items like toy buckets or toy boxes, they can design and draw the children's names on there for you! So neat!!!! Okay so this is a great store the reason I am rating it so low is because of the frogs they sell. Yes, I agree they make great first pets but 2 frogs should be living in a five gallon tanks. this is too small of a space and if you look it up you can clearly see that's true. I hate to say it but the internet exists for people to learn and it seems people are so uneducated on animal stuff. Please research how to properly care for a pet before getting one! I don't want to bash the store because they probably did not know but this is animal abuse! read more

This is a great toy store with a wonderful selection of traditional toys, but also many unique items that are educational as well as fun. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. My children love shopping at this store because there are many items out for them to play with and try before purchasing. We love their birthday and holiday box/registry program. The children fill a box with items they would like for their birthday or Christmas. This is so handy, especially for grandparents!! It is also gray for birthday parties so that people know what the child wants and likes. They gift wrap free which is always helpful!!! In addition, they do fun children's workshops on the weekends. They also have a good selection of items that they will personalize for children and these items make really nice gifts. It is locally owned too and that is always a plus!!! read more
