My friend and I registered to take Adult 3 together. My friend already knows how to skate and was completely willing to be evaluated. Learn to Skate USA's published Adult curriculum specifically states: "Based on prior skating experience, adults may choose to begin at the level that best matches their skill base." When Michelle McIntosh 'Jackie' refused to allow my friend to participate, I pulled up the published policy on my phone and showed it to her. Rather than simply reviewing the policy or evaluating my friend's skating ability, Jackie became increasingly argumentative and hostile and told me, "Wow, you just want to get your way." When I tried to de-escalate the situation and pointed out that this was a recreational adult skating class and really was not that serious, Jackie responded, "It is that serious," and continued making my friend feel extremely uncomfortable. Again, my friend was standing there perfectly willing to be evaluated. During the interaction, Jackie also inexplicably asked me, "Is that your wife?" referring to my friend. The question had absolutely nothing to do with the issue being discussed and, given her demeanor and the context in which it was said, came across as another unnecessary personal remark. Her behavior became hostile enough that I no longer felt comfortable or safe remaining at the facility. Jackie then took my skating card and told me she would refund the $228 I had paid. While we were waiting, I said to my friend, "Wow, what a waste," referring to the time and gas we had wasted driving there. Jackie overheard me, became angry again, and announced that she had changed her mind and would no longer refund me. So at that point, Center Ice had my $228, Jackie had taken my skating card, the class had begun without me, and she was refusing the refund she had just offered because she overheard me express frustration to my friend. I ultimately had to dispute the charge with American Express. Jackie expressly identified herself to me as an owner of Center Ice Arena, which makes the behavior even more concerning. I have since filed a formal complaint with Learn to Skate USA regarding Center Ice's administration of its Adult program and the interaction. There were countless reasonable ways to handle placement in a beginner-level recreational adult skating class. Becoming hostile toward two paying customers was not one of them. Extremely disappointing experience. Very unprofessional.

My oldest has been there since he was a Butterfly (their youngest toddler class) and is currently enrolled in their Transitional Kindergarten class (one of only a few offered in the city) and we couldn't be happier! As a parent, especially of little ones, one of my main concerns is that they are cared for and protected as though they were in my care whenever I'm not present and that's exactly what they do- if not more! Every single educator or staff member that my children have come in contact with shows them love and genuine interest in each of them. It truly is a wonderful community to be a part of. The parents are engaged and a huge part of the community making this school extra special! From assisting in the classrooms for parties and class projects to forming committees for their larger events and fundraisers. Their administrative staff is such a great group of women. They truly take the time to know the families and their children. Rhonda, the director, is such a special person who somehow always has time for everyone! She has a way of making you always feel at ease with whatever concerns you might have. As for the actual school itself- it truly is magical. I remember when we toured the school the feeling of ease and peace that we felt while walking through the lamp lit rooms with their esthetically pleasing wooden blocks and art filled walls and hallways. Hearing about their Reggio program (children should have some control over their learning) and how it really encompassed what we wanted in a curriculum for our children and sealed the deal for us. This sweet preschool holds such a special place in our hearts and we can't recommend it enough to anyone and everyone who is looking for a school for their little!

When you walk past the front desk you go down a long hallway and it looks like they have several fitness rooms and a gymnasium (there were people playing basketball in there when we walked past). The Zumba class we took was with instructor Tash. She literally screamed at us and all the students / participants throughout the class, and came within 2 feet of me to scream (and I mean triple SCREAM) at me to get my legs up. This was inappropriate and made me extremely uncomfortable. Tash asked when I entered the room if this was my first Zumba class. Despite me telling her yes, there was no instruction nor a speed a first timer could even begin to keep up with. Not sure why the question was asked in the first place. The gym overall looked clean enough, and spacious. There were at least 15 people in this particular class on a Saturday, and there was plenty of room for all of us (if any more had joined, it would have felt crowded).

She was nice enough, extremely knowledgeable, and had a contagious can-do positive personality. We were sold on this and the size and cleanliness of the facilities. Unfortunately, she is not the one teaching the classes. Teenagers/very young adults teach the classes and they are sweet but lack the experience it takes to work with toddlers and young kids. Motivation was lacking. Parents did not need to be in the class but in order to get the most of it we and other folks joined in as the coaches weren't attentive and appeared uninterested. We noticed some of the other coaches teaching the older kids were also lacking the excitement we feel a gymnastics coach should have (something akin to a cheerleading coach, full of energy and smiles.)
