My daughter has been at Learning Steps for a little over 1-1/2 years - starting when she was 13 months. She started at 2 days per week for several months and then switched to 5 days. For both transitions, the teachers and staff were incredibly caring and helpful with easing her in. She has been through two different classrooms as she's aged up. In both cases, her teachers showed incredible love and patience. I never doubted that she was in good hands and was safe and happy. She's thrived socially and has learned so many amazing things. She regularly pipes up about something and I wonder where on earth she learned it without me - daycare! But what I love is that all of this learning takes place during play. I'm very opposed to academic setting learning at this age and Learning Steps prioritizes learning through play. She has a lot of fun during the day and comes home with adorable artwork to show. It's with a sad heart that I have to write this review as I wanted Learning Steps to be the great place for my son as it had promise to be. But this afternoon I withdrew my child from the school. I'm writing this review to warn other parents about Learning Steps, and my hope is that they will read this review, and address the concerns. Though still we will not be back. This afternoon when I came to pick up my son around 3:30 --I found him in tears holding an empty milk bottle desperately flailing to get the attention and care of his teacher-- only to be ignored.... HE clearly had been sobbing his eyes out for a long time, was walking sadly behind his teacher; crying. When I arrived he ran to me crying ... then when I picked him up he asked for water, his milk bottle was empty but had been used for water even though he has a separate water bottle and clearly no one CARED!!! To add insult to injury I had made a specific request to the owner, the front desk person, and the teacher to notify me if anything bad happened with my son. But today that never happened-- forced to learn the hard way that parents wishes are not respected here --my only choice is to write this review. A few other comments: The lady at the front desk has the most unfriendly uncaring demeanor and barely talks or says hi at drop off. When I told her there was no sign up sheet... no paper for me to sign him in and out - no system for them to keep track of the kids-- her response was "just write his name in.." When I told the director/owner this she said she would fix this - and 2 weeks later the same thing happening - no sign in or accountability for my child. Who knows who would pick up/drop off or when... The owner tries to do a good job and is very nice. When she had good teachers, that we had for about 6 months in the little kids class, things were great - but she is rarely there - splitting her time between schools and can not seem to keep things consistent (the teachers we had in the little kids class have left), hire a nice office manager, or keep mean teachers in line. When I have called to complain and try to make things right before ultimately leaving, it was to no avail - my most simple plea and concern - If my child is upset - call me - was not met! My son has attended Learning Steps full time since he was a year old. He is now 3.5 and thriving. Being a teacher myself, it was supremely important to me that my son be cared for in a place where I knew he would be safe, enriched, supported, and challenged on a daily basis. We found this in Learning Steps. His teachers have always been responsive and in-tune to each child's individual needs, which is no easy feat with toddlers! Yes, there were occasional bumps and bruises (as happens with kids) and a rare miscommunication (as happens with adults) but we were always 100% confident our son, as well as his classmates, were being cared for by teachers who treated them like their own children. In particular, Ms. Pam (lead teacher in the 2 year old classroom) is pretty much our hero. Not only did she maintain safety and order in a classroom full of a rambunctious group of 2 year olds while teaching thematic lessons, she also helped my somewhat shy son build his social confidence and assertiveness with his peers...and to top it all off, she single-handedly potty trained my son and many of his friends. She is very direct with the kids and is all about fostering their independence (which some people might take as harsh) but it comes from a place of deep love and years of experience. My son still includes her in his bedtime prayers each night, even though he graduated from her classroom almost a year ago. Right now we have Ms.Alex as our lead teacher in the 3 year old class and she is also wonderful. My son's confidence has blossomed in her class. She is sweet and loving but also makes sure rules are followed. She too has done a fabulous job supporting my son's learning. He can already write his name and is meeting or exceeding all developmental and learning standards-and that is due, in a large part, to her work. She is always responsive to any concerns we have brought up and any issues are handled. My son loves Ms.Alex and his friends at school so much that he never wants to go home when we come to pick him up. We also love that all staff- from the baby room to the 3 year olds, make every effort to take the kids out for walks and to play in the park daily. read more

Well into our second year with a little one at Learning Steps and love the place, and even more so the wonderful teaching staff. Pam and Alex in particular are excellent. Facilities are good. Love that the kids get out to the park in any fair weather. I'm sure this can vary from class to class, also consider ourselves very fortunate for the children's friendships and community of parents here. Highly recommend! read more

My son was here for only two months at around 18 months but I wish we could have moved the school with us when we moved out of state. I'm now comparing the west coast daycares to the wonderful experience we had at Learning Steps. I loved seeing the creative activities the kids did throughout the day. They were extremely thoughtful and even themed in terms of what they did outside at the park, and then what they would do next inside. I looked forward to getting the recap photos at the end of every day. And most telling to me was the teachers always had warm smiles on their faces and actually seemed to enjoy their jobs. Miss Veronica and Miss Tiffany could not have been more warm and Miss Yolanda was also always very easy going and nice. Our kid had been at a different day care in the area when he was 3+ months and there was a lot of turnover and what seemed to me to be unhappy employees there. read more

Learning Steps is a bright, cheerful, educational space with attentive and caring teachers. Our daughter has been there for two years and in that time she has grown intellectually, emotionally, and socially. They've helped her to overcome phobias and insecurities (no small feat!) and taught her how to effectively express her emotions. We left briefly for another local daycare (an easier commute) but quickly returned when we recognized the difference in the of quality care and education. Learning Steps also continues to evolve. They look for new classes and techniques to engage students--from language to music to yoga, our daughter has been introduced to a wide range of developmental activities. They are also in the process of starting a parent association and helping to facilitate a tighter-knit parent-child community. I highly recommend them. read more

Our little guy joined Learning Steps when he was 18 months old and we've had a really positive experience. Yolanda and Beata who run the school are are always thinking of new age-appropriate programming, and they've been amazingly flexible and responsive with any questions we have. For example, my husband and I recently took our first trip without babe, and I asked if our guy could go to school for an extra day that week (since he's much more stimulated/distracted than days with his nanny). They happily took him, and sent us extra photos to show how great he was doing on the days we were away. The way they support parents definitely makes it feel more like trusted family than an institution. The teachers genuinely care about the students... they noticed our guy wasn't talking much, so gently helped him stop sucking his thumb, and now he's chatting up a storm! They chose to go above to help him - they could have easily ignored it and just said he was behind. Whenever I go in to drop off or pickup, I see happy kids playing, eating, learning. I've toured other schools where I hear screaming or see kids wandering off... that's not the case here. I encourage you to see for yourself what a wonderful place Learning Steps is for kids. read more

My daughter has been at Learning Steps in the 2-3 class for almost a year and is really enjoying her experience. The teachers focus on a great balance of play and "learning"- focusing on art projects, nature, etc. They do lots of tactile experiments which the kids really enjoy. There are daily trips to the park. They took a field trip to the local firehouse. My daughter comes home singing new songs all the time and is excited to tell me about her day. The school offers breakfast for the children which includes pancakes, waffles, cereal or yogurt with croissant and fruit. It helps me motivate my daughter out of the house in the morning-she likes to have breakfast with her friends. The teachers are caring and engaging with the students. They communicate with me and are always available to answer questions and address my concerns. My daughter has been in the 1-2 year old program at Learning Steps for about 10 months. During that time she has flourished! She quickly joined in on the many fun group activities the center organizes (yoga/movement class, music class) and began expressing herself creatively with the daily crafts and projects the teachers set up for the kids. I love getting updates (via an app for parents with photos etc.) about her day and the various themes they are working on that week, and of course bringing home her wonderful artwork. I also love that they get plenty of time outdoors playing in the park with one another. Everyone that works there is so gentle, kind, and patient with the kids. My daughter kisses and tells her teachers she loves them every day at pick up! The teachers and staff are easy to get in touch with and are responsive to inquiries and concerns. The space is large and clean and they bring in new toys periodically to keep the kids engaged. We are very happy with the high level of care and instruction at Learning Steps and our daughter has grown by leaps and bounds in her time there. Highly recommend! read more

I took a tour and followed up with a second visit bringing my daughter to play a bit. I found the school to be impeccably clean and organized, as everything is brand new. There were lots of stimulating, high quality toys and other items for the kids to play with (kitchen area, dress up, table toys, etc.). The teachers were attentive and the children seemed to be having a good time. I appreciated the emphasis on learning, but fluid based on what the children are most excited about. We are planning to enroll our Toddler later this Fall. read more

Being a parent at Learning Steps for almost 3 years, I have seen many changes in staff and directors. Only a few teachers presence have been constant. One such teacher si from the 2's room. My husband and I along with dozens of other parents can't begin to tanks her for her guidance, dedication, professionalism and love she has shown our children. With over 20 years experience and a degree in early childhood education, this teacher has dedicated herself to care for our children. He has helped them overcome their fears, guide them to make right choices, and redirected their behavior to help them become wonderful, kind, and loving kids. I am wrong this review with a sad heart because of the injustice that was done to this teacher. I m not only writing this from just my experience but from the many wonderful and inspirational stories the other parents shared about this teacher. Two weeks ago this teacher was let go because a parent made a complaint. The parent complained that the teacher grabbed a child arm and called another child a baby. When the complaint was investigated this is what actually happened: 1 The teacher was actually stopping a child from throwing food on the floor, so she placed her hand on the child's hand and said "no thank you" to stop him. 2 The child who recently became a big brother was having a difficult time with transition when mom leaves and woul scream continuously. The teacher told him it's okay to cry and asked him to do it softly like his " baby sister". The teacher communicated this to the parent as a strategy, which the parents used, and it worked. This is the kind of teacher, parents wish to have for their children, as teachers spend so much time with the kids and understand them. Dedicated teachers understand the children they care for and knows how to discipline, and redirect them in a firm and loving manner. That's what a GOOD TEACHER does, and parents are grateful. After finding NO evidence of inappropriate language or behavior from the teacher, she was still let go bc the parent THREATENED the director to let her go or she will write bad reviews and call ACS. . So in the end, the only ones who got hurt in this situation are the kids and parents who missed out on having a wonderful teacher. It's very sad when IGNORANCE can overshadow KNOWLEDGE.
