I cannot speak to Ms. Leder as I have never worked with her however, Mrs. Leah Parrish-Payne was my attorney from 2019-2021 and will remain so long as she'll have me should future issues arise. She was attentive, responsive and really fought for me in my never ending custody battle and even gave sound advice even when I stayed out of court with my youngest son's dad threatened to take him from me. Leah managed to get me from a horrible custody arrangement for my oldest where I was driving to meet my ex twice/ day to sole custody (rightfully won). It took us a few years but it was accomplished thanks to her staying on top of things, ensuring to enlighten the court of the other parties lack of interest in our child's well being and development. When going through a divorce, having an attorney that will help you and guide you through a difficult time is key. This is exactly what you will not receive from Karen Leder. She is unresponsive, expensive and provides very little guidance. You have to call her to find out what's next and how to further proceed. And even then, it would take several days to get a return call. This attorney is not very knowledgeable. She does not know anything when dealing with laws and the rights that a spouse has to a federal retirement and misinformed us about tax issues. Her retainer was $4k. After only meeting with her 2 times for about an hour. A hand full of phone calls, and yes, she filed for the divorce, but just that went through $3k. My Elderly 78 year old mother went to see her. Karen informed my mother she would help pursue a garnishment for a court order my mom already had. They took her money then almost six months later said there is nothing she can do. When I called to see what happened Karen said she doesn't usually provide this service but she felt sorry for my mom. (That was insulting) Karen said she never got a response on the garnishment filed and there was no explanation given. She said she didn't charge my mother enough to work anymore on the case and did not offer any further solution. I was divorced in 2013, but my ex-husband recently decided to take me back to court in an effort to get his child and spousal support payments lowered and to seek more custody. I needed a great attorney for a price that I could afford. Karen represented a coworker of mine in her divorce and my coworker insisted that I retain Karen in my dispute and gave me her number. She went on and on about how great Karen was in court and how much she helped her and really cared about her case. I could tell by talking to her on the phone that I really liked her. I had spoken to another attorney before that and was not impressed at all. Her consultation was very brief and she barely asked me any questions. Karen's was very different. She went above and beyond to calculate numbers for me, and asked me a lot of questions so that she could understand my situation. She is no nonsense and knows exactly what she is doing. I am confused by the reviews that say she is money hungry because I have experienced the exact opposite. She charged very high fees and seemed to be knowledgeable but you can never talk to her. When I was able to get in after discussing the case she charged for time even when she talked about her family. I was taken back. It is frustrating when clients need reassurance for work being done. When we appeared in court not all information was accurate and when I tried to tell her she snapped and said sit back and be quiet. She had incorrect names. Please do not select this woman to be your attorney. I cannot begin to tell you how much of a bad person she is. I took my baby daddy to court and filed for physical and legal custody and he hired her as his attorney. Prior to filing for custody, baby daddy wasn't in the picture since my Son was a newborn. Then one day, he took off with my six month old and wouldn't tell me where he was. Anyway, so he and his family hired this woman. She not only ensured and advised baby daddy to not let me see my Son for 19 days until the court reached their decision, but also lied in court and tried to prevent me from even having custody of him. Mind you, I was raising this child on my OWN prior to this incident. She slandered me in court, using my past and financial stability as a reason why I make an "unfit Mother". One day, she told my attorney that she will give me back my child if I agreed to let her call my relatives to verify my Son had been living with me the entire time, so I agreed. They verified this, and she DIDN'T KEEP TO HER WORD. She tried to then do a 50/50 split!!! When I called her Law Firm to ask her to advise baby daddy to let me see my son, her daughter, Jill Shubert, answered the phone and was really rude, saying I am legally not allowed to speak with Karen. Mind you, this is a 6-month-old baby we're talking about whom I had been breastfeeding and hadn't seen (not even pictures!!!) for a few weeks!!! I figured since she spoke to my relatives and was advising baby daddy to not let me SEE my child, that she would be the only person to talk to. Nope. Anyway, in the long-run, I got a new attorney who actually knew Karen and how she worked in the courtroom. He knew she was a bad apple and fought for me and I got full physical and legal custody. While in court, she would get angry and cut off the judge while he was speaking. Judges DON'T LIKE HER. Don't go to this so call lawyer, She dosen't listen to you. she charges you for an hour meeting when it was maybe took her 30 minutes. I ask not to give my X my new address she said by law she had to. I signed papers having her no longer my attorney. I had another address I requsted them to give him, since he has my address my tire has put on a flat antenna has been broken. I was sent a bill and I called and said that the total I came up with she owed me a credit. A few weeks later I received another bill this time it was higher. The reason I hired her is because she said I was entitled for spousal support at the time I told her I thought I couldn't get support.
