My experience was AWESOME from the time I arrived until I left the chair after my wisdom tooth was extracted! Lori and Ginger in the office, helped me with the paperwork , made me feel comfortable and answered any questions I had. Once I got in the chair, both assistants whose names were Ashley took great care of me and reduced my stress level and prepared me for the extraction. Dr. Akin is very personable, kind, and was gentle giving me the shot to numb the area around my tooth. Once the procedure started Dr. Akin made sure I was not in any pain during the extraction. I was fortunate to find Dr. Akin several years ago as I was dealing with a series of dental crises. He did extractions, bone enhancement and several implants. At one point he even removed an implant that had been poorly done by another oral surgeon. Gruesome, for sure, but he managed it with professionalism and personal attention. I have now moved away from the Canton/Potsdam area and am dealing with dentists in Westchester County. I miss Dr. Akin and his whole team. read more

my experience with Dr. Akins office was nothing but the best from the front window to leaving the office. The girls in the office were totally professional and helpful. Dr. Akins and his assistant were great I had sixteen teeth pulled in two visits with only a little discomfort and I am a whimp when it comes to dentist. I didn't have insurance and he gave me the best cash price he could. I had x-ray's from another dentist which he used to save paying for them again. The wait time was minimum to my surprise with the number of people in the waiting room. I would recommend this office to anyone needing teeth pulled, it was a pleasant experience as far as getting teeth pulled could be. read more

Hope you can appreciate this review, since I had a lot of trepidation about having my lower wisdom tooth removed and after having an upper taken out a few years ago, I did not look forward to reliving that unpleasant and painful experience, and heard the lower wisdom was even more of a challenge getting out while the client was only given a local anesthetic like in the case of my first extraction. I also wanted to keep my tooth and the first two surgeons I called told me they don't do that and it was considered medical waste. One of those surgeon's receptionist even acted like a tyrant and stated that it was "against the law". Well, it's my tooth and it's not against any law. When I first called Dr. Akin's Office I spoke with Kelly; she was very helpful and gave me an appointment to see Dr. Akin in less time than I ever would have imagined. This was not an emergency appointment either and I was paying out-of-pocket. Kelly, told me to just inform the doctor before the surgery to retain my tooth if I wanted to keep it. Great, but I still had reservations and concerns about the visit. When I arrived 20 minutes early I filled the necessary forms out and was called in to see Dr. Akin at the time of the appointment, despite the full waiting room and folks in with the doctor already. I was immediately taken to X-ray and then to an examination room where topical Cain gel was rubbed over my bad tooth. The place was spotless and the staff that assisted me were attractive and very organized, seeing as all my questions were answered and they made sure I was taken care of even while taking care of the other clients in the office at the same time. Dr. Akin greeted me shortly after and he was a pleasure to meet and speak with. Dr. Akin immediately began the administration of Cain injections. I remembered how painful this process was during my first extraction and mentioned it to the doctor. However, this time it was painless with some minor discomfort. In fact, the whole extraction process was painless, even though my tooth, the staff informed me, was partially bone impacted and was not going to come right out too easily. Both Dr. Akin and his assistant were gentle and fun during the procedure. I could not believe when they told me it was over! I immediately went to the bathroom mirror to see for myself because I could not believe the tooth that had given me pain for months was finally out forever, but it was. My experience with Dr. Akin and his staff has been nothing short of awesome. After paying my bill I realized the value (invaluable) of the services rendered and just had to write this review and hope others will take note of my experience. Dr. Akin charges $380 to extract a tooth. He charges $110 for a whole mouth x ray that is not even needed, $70 for an evaluation, and $200 to pull the tooth. Ridiculous. read more
