Went well and on time maybe more expensive than others nearby but they have a good location

I have never felt more uncomfortable bringing something in for an alteration. From start to finish the tailor made me feel bad for bringing in my top because it was too difficult. She complained during my try on and when I picked up my outfit to the point where I could not even bring myself to say thank you. She said she would never do it again in her life because it was too difficult and she should have charged me $100 more than what she charged me to begin with. I paid $135 for the alteration. I would not recommend going here unless you have something that just needs a simple hem. read more

Lee's Alterations is truly one of my favorite hidden gems in Coral Ridge Mall -- right between Dillard's and Barnes & Noble. It's a lovely family-run business, and you can tell they've been doing this a long time. Everyone is super kind, professional, and incredibly skilled. I've brought in all kinds of things over the years -- scrubs, dresses, shirts, pants -- and they always do a great job. They're very knowledgeable about different fabrics (whether it's thick, stretchy, delicate, etc.), so pricing can vary depending on what you bring in. But they're always upfront and explain everything clearly, which I really appreciate. Turnaround time is fast and they're very punctual, but if you're in a real rush, they do offer a fair upcharge for expedited service. Still, I'd definitely recommend giving them at least a week or two, especially if you've got a dance or special event coming up. They'll let you know right away what's realistic and always follow through. Just a heads up -- it's cash or check only, but totally worth the extra step. Couldn't recommend them more! read more

omg. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS BUISNESS! I had them mess up on one $400 MOB dress, they managed to sort of fix it , but I wasn't compensated in anyway. But then seven weeks later, I was stupid enough to trust them. With the same dress in a different color for my second daughter's wedding. They completely demolished it to the point where I could make it work it like a seven-year-old did it and all it was supposed to be was a simple little hem!!!!!! First time going here. I had pants brought in about a 1/2 inch resulting in an uneven hem. She said she thought it was fine but offered to fix it. The final result was a slightly better but still uneven hem. Total cost $18. I definitely would not recommend this place. read more

Lee's Alterations - Tailored pants - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Coralville, Iowa

We took a dress to be altered and they moved the straps to the middle of the dress top. It looks completely ridiculous and the stitching is on the outside of the dress. We are now on the hunt for someone who can fix the top- here's to hoping they didn't cut so much fabric that it's unfixable. read more

I went here on 3/28/18 and it had been replaced by a Chinese massage place. I've used this place to take jackets in, do hems and shorten sleeves with great success. My wife brought a dress here and didn't like the alterations. In the recent months Mr. Lee had family help run the business as he was diagnosed with cancer of some sort. I hope he's doing well. This was always my go to place as it was open after business hours and on the weekends. I'll miss them. read more

I was in a jam and Lee's Alterations got me through it. My husband's boss invited us to an Art Gala last minute, like, the day before last minute. AND it of course-- was a black tie event. So, with 36 hours until the gala itself, I hit the ground running to a plethora of stores in search of a stunning floor length dress. Long story short-- I found THE ONE. The most amazing dress I had ever put on (not counting my wedding dress, of course.) BUT it was way too long. Like, legs for days, super model height long. Unsure what to do... I called my mother in law and she recommended Lee's. I rushed in and with no wait, got the bottom hem pinned in no time. Several questions were asked as she pinned. Like what shoe I'd be wearing or what my opinion was once it was hemmed, etc. I felt very 'in the loop'. For an extra charge I had it rushed and got it in time for the gala. My experience was professional. The store was no frills and basic but with it being at the mall, super convenient. I dealt with two employees and they were friendly. But most importantly-- it turned out exactly how I had hoped AND was on time. Will I go back? If I'm in a pickle again, you bet! I'll be sure to have cash or a check on hand next time though. read more

This is my second review for Lee's Alterations. If the rating had 10 stars ( instead of 5) I would give 10. Previously I had brought in hubby work plants for zipper work. This time a stuffed animal that was 25 yrs old and belonged to my 29 yr old daughter . Her new puppy almost destroyed it . We saved all the parts , and the stuffing ( puppy ate the nose) I wasn't able to get to Lee's until 6 pm on Tuesday ( 5 min before they closed ) . I gave the bag of parts to the wonderful owner and asked her to "work her magic" ( including making a new nose ). I had told her I was leaving town thur night , so would pick up again at closing time . Bad weather came early -- so I called at 11 am and asked if by chance it was done . She was working on it and said would finish asap . A text came to my cell before noon with a flawless pic of the stuffed animal --- stating "this puppy is ready to go home ". SHE ROCKED IT !!! Upon hearing all the great reviews, I decided to give this place a try with a jacket of mine that needed to be hemmed. I gave her the date that it needed to be done due to an event of mine, and even though it was short notice she assured me it would be done. I went in at the date and time that she said it was going to be done, and she told me it would not be ready until tomorrow. Now I do not have my jacket for my event. I had bought this jacket specifically for my event, and now I am completely disappointed. I will not be coming here again. read more

UPDATE - [27 APRIL 2018] Lee's Alteration recently relocated their shop closer to Younkers. They were previously located opposite of MasterCuts, which is now a Chinese Massage shop. I recommend to call at least 3-4 days before you need your alteration done since the owner might be out of town. Also, they accept cash or check for payments only. I had my pants tapered and hemmed twice here, and they did a great job! read more

I waited a little too long to get a bridesmaid dress taken up and thought I may have been out of luck. Thankfully, they were able to do it in just 4 days for me! The other places I called were booked for a couple weeks. It was an easy alteration, but it was the perfect length and very well done. They don't accept credit cards, though, so bring cash or check. read more

Been here several times over the years. They did a great job on hemming/altering some formal dresses. They've also hemmed pants for me too but the stitching always seems to come out of the pants for some reason. However, whenever this happens, they fit it again for no charge. read more

It's hard to find a good tailor in Iowa City. Trust me, I've had some bad experiences. So, I was skeptical at first, especially because the prices here are so good. But between myself and my fiancé we have taken at least 15 articles of clothing here for alterations. Every time it is perfect. I have even stopped trying things on there, because I trust them that much. read more

Lee's Alterations is amazing! We had 4 pair of slacks hemmed in a couple of days, but then we needed suit pants done as soon as possible! We felt bad asking, but they didn't blink an eye. First and foremost I love supporting privately owned businesses, especially Lee's. I've taken 4 sport coats and an overcoat there to get altered and he did a PERFECT JOB. Fair price, nice family owned operation, love stopping in every time I'm in the mall. read more

Wish the customer service was better!

Took one shirt for take in as a test. The guy did an excellent job. So I took a Bunch of shirts and a jacket. Found out the guy is out for a while due to illness. The lady who took over did a terrible job despite charging extra. I don't even think she has any experience in tailoring. She just took the family/ friend business that was vacated due to illness. read more

The best tailor I've dealt with in the US. Alterations always come out perfectly, and they give great advice on what is and isn't fashionable/necessary. I had a garment that couldn't be altered how I wanted and they didn't charge a dime. I highly recommend them. Both my husband and brother have gotten things done there now and none of us has had a problem. Very friendly too. read more

I'm happy for the 5 star reviewer - they must have gotten lucky. Maybe if you need a hem you can get what you need. I don't recommend anything beyond that. When you pay several hundred dollars for a suit and then come out with a suit coat you'll never be able to wear, it's beyond disappointing. I gave them two chances to fix the coat and each time got successively worse. Their response to the two new humps in my back? - oh, that's the way most coats look. I paid my money and will never go back. read more

This is the worst tailor I have ever used but the nice thing is that the customer service is so bad you will either not use them or will only be burned by them once. They ruined a very expensive suit, misplaced some of the pieces I left and were very rude when I simply asked why they didn't use the parts we had picked out. If you take anything there all I can say is "I told you so". read more
