He has earned his first black belt and is working towards his second black belt. Master Ahn personally directs the classes himself and takes great personal interest in each of his students, which is very different from other centers. He is very strict when it comes to discipline in the class [we like it] while also having fun activities like dodge ball, which all kids seem to love. Master Ahn constantly encourages and challenges students to break boards with increasing harder kicks as kids progress and get better at kicks. He motivates students to improve their forms and kicks and not just go through the motions like a dance. The more interest and effort you put into his class, the more you get out of the class and him. Sparring is one of the highlights of the class and our kid loves it. During normal classes, students are taught to do forms and combination kicks. During sparring sessions, he directly monitors and guides the sparring to use these combinations in a safe way. Our son's sparring skills and confidence has dramatically improved over the years due to this class. Our son is more focused and disciplined due to this class. Our son [all kids in his dojo do] highly respects him and is constantly trying to improve his forms, kicks and sparring skills as guided by Master Ahn. Unfair Treatment & Unethical Charges - Urgent Resolution Needed…read more I feel completely taken advantage of by Master Kang's martial arts program. As a single mother of three, I was looking for a safe and reliable aftercare solution for my children. When I enrolled my 6-, 7-, and 8-year-olds, Master Kang promised me a "discounted price" and a "free uniform." However, I quickly realized that the hidden costs--belt tests, miscellaneous fees, and other unexpected expenses--added up significantly. From the start, I made it clear that I would be unable to stay in class with my children due to my work schedule. Master Kang assured me that they would be watched after their lessons. Yet, on multiple occasions, I arrived to find my 6-, 7-, and 8-year-olds outside the dojo, completely unattended and unsupervised. This was not only irresponsible but also dangerous. I trusted this program to provide structure and safety for my children, but instead, I found them running around unsupervised, putting them at risk. Another issue arose with the attendance stickers that are given out to eventually earn achievement medals. Since I wasn't present, Master Kang would hand these stickers directly to my children, who, as small kids naturally do, often lost them before I arrived. When I asked for replacements, he refused, saying they were "too expensive" because they were imported. How is it acceptable to deny a child a simple sticker, knowing they are young and likely to misplace it? This lack of compassion and flexibility was incredibly frustrating. Then, life took a turn. I lost my job and could no longer afford the program. I informed Master Kang and requested to cancel my membership, explaining that I had to move out of state. The school demanded proof of my move, so I provided a lease and a utility bill. However, they rejected my documentation over a minor technicality--listing my name at my new address still tied to my old driver's license. Despite my best efforts, they refused to accept even my utility start-of-service notice as valid proof. How was I supposed to provide a finalized bill for a future address before even moving in? This requirement is not only unreasonable but feels like an intentional barrier to keep charging me. Now, they continue to bill me, even though I have done everything in my power to prove that I have moved and can no longer attend. At this point, I feel deceived, exploited, and robbed in broad daylight. Where is the integrity? Where is the humanity? Master Kang is a businessman and a family man--yet he is treating a struggling mother with zero empathy, prioritizing profits over basic fairness. I am demanding that my membership be canceled immediately. I refuse to pay for a service I cannot use, especially one that has already failed to provide the safe environment I was promised. If this matter is not resolved, I will have no choice but to escalate this through consumer protection agencies, public reviews, and legal channels. I hope Master Kang and his team choose to do the right thing. I help tie their belts, show them their forms, and cheer them on during testing. I remember when I was like them, looking up to the black belts. Now it's my turn to inspire others and keep working hard. In the end, getting a black belt isn't about being the best fighter. At the US Taekwondo Academy, I learned that I'm stronger than I think, and that hard work and respect can help me reach any goal. That's what being a black belt really means to me. USTA teaches self-defense for all ages, including a full training program of Japanese Jujitsu self-defense, Arnis, TaeKwonDo, & Kenjitsue (Japanese Samurai Sword). took me a while to finally write a review! read this for a genuine review from a former decade long…read moremember here. i was with the white tiger family for a very long time, went from white belt to a 2nd dan black belt here and then went off to do tkd at the collegiate level afterwards. i think the best part of white tiger overall for me has always been the people there. just such caring instructors and staff and some of my best friends (even to this day), have been made on the mat. also, some of the most fun trips i've ever done have come out of taekwondo too, from new york, austin, seattle, and miami to the kukkiwon headquarters in korea. so many experiences come from the tournaments and detours you'll take as a tkd athlete in life. in general, white tiger has always excelled in teaching poomsae (tkd forms) as well as in tkd demonstration. it's also a very well connected school in terms of the broader network of tkd schools and masters. as such, there's lots of opportunities to participate in fun tournaments and events and really level up your skills. i genuinely think it's worth it for anyone interested to give it a shot and, who knows, it might just become one of the most memorable things you do in your life. just like it was for me! :)
