In response to the Oct 16th post by Christina, some clarification is to be made on some of the…read moreinaccurate comments she posted. Perhaps she has us confused with another customer?? We had a total of 2 visits in the "showroom" and only worked with one designer, Taylin. (Who has since terminated her working relationship with this business) . During our second visit, we asked that more specific language, be added to the pending contract. She did not agree to make any addendums to the contract. She continued to state to us that there were allowances in the contract that would take care of everything. We had wanted to be perfectly clear about everything ..sizes, shapes, quality, brand names of products, etc. The only comment made to us was that if our choices of fixtures, tile, ect. go over the allowance, it would be added to the cost of the project. We had hoped for a water tight quote on the cost of the renovation project. We never received an offer to move forward in a transition process with the owner and a "new designer" (??). We were advised that the owner would be "available" to us if need be. You stated in your recent comment that you "reached out to set an appointment with (us), the owner and "our" designer". This is not a true statement. You stated that "our designer" offered a "same day meeting". Again, this is a false statement. We are completely unaware of a new "designer". I do not intend to get into a conflict with this business. I believe they have us confused with another client, as so many statements made by Christina in her post do not relate to our situation. My final comment is "buyer beware"........

Before we decided to go with Summit Kitchen & Bath, we interviewed other kitchen/bath contractors…read morein Summit County and in the Denver metro area. Having experienced past issues with contractors, this time, we needed to be especially careful. Ultimately, we were most impressed with Summit Kitchen and Bath's enthusiasm and resume of work in Shock Hill and other Summit County neighborhoods. Greg has worked on high end kitchens/baths for decades and we knew Brenda before we bought this house. After spending time with Greg and Brenda, we could tell they loved their work and were good at it. Our Eagle's Nest home has an odd kitchen which felt disproportionately small for this almost 4000 sqft home. We believed it was inevitable that we would need to tear out walls to make the kitchen feel proportional to the house. Greg and Brenda were actually excited about the challenges that came with this kitchen remodel. They came up with exceptionally creative design features incorporating elements we never considered. Only someone with Greg's experience could have come up with ideas to make our kitchen finally feel proportional to the house using the same space -- no walls needed to be torn out and he found additional space for cabinets we never considered. Summit's selections of granite, cabinets, hardware, etc. were virtually unlimited. Greg has access to virtually anything. Summit also has connections with many other businesses in Summit County. With Greg and Brenda's referral, we got a great deal on outstanding appliances. After they were done, the kitchen flowed perfectly with the remainder of the house and, based upon the opinion of a real estate broker, enhanced the value of the house more than 4 times the total cost of the renovation. Greg and Brenda were exceptional in coordinating their workers, the various aspects of a renovation, and in sticking to their promised schedule. During the tear out, an unexpected and time-consuming plumbing issue surfaced which could not have been anticipated (bad design not to code when the house was first built); yet, Greg and Brenda were still able to maintain the schedule they promised. They anticipated the unexpected in their scheduling! We were away during much of the renovation. Before we thought to ask for an update, Brenda contacted us with an update. She kept us well informed at every stage of the process. Summit's workers were meticulous in keeping the rest of the home shielded from the construction project. Summit's price for the entire tear out and rebuild was very competitive with even Denver contractors who have much more competition. This has been the best contracting experience we have ever encountered. These folks know what they are doing, love what they do, and do it well!!

Poor quality: a set of window doors three creeks made for us my contractor called a "fifth graders art project" as staples, nails and hot glue were all clearly visible on the backsides. Quoted 4-6 weeks, the project was actually never fully completed but at 14 weeks we went with someone else to fix his mistakes. When mistakes are made, and many were made, owner Michael Ginzel will do anything to avoid liability including just flat out lying and inventing stories to push liability elsewhere. In my case, he said other people threw out imaginary paint he claims to-but never actually did-leave in my house. Even if he isn't lying about this imaginary paint-it was no ordinary paint-it was highly toxic, carcinogenic paint that is too "volatile" to even use on site (his words) and comes with a list of health concerns he emails me, infertility as well. It needs to be in a special storage container for this reason as well, not just under my sink-but-it was a flat out lie. He claims to have left this paint in my sink basin where my toddler could easily reach it, so even his lies are huge mistakes. Scratches were created-perhaps even by his own company moving the doors but he claims other on site workers created them to avoid liability-and his finisher then used the wrong paint to try and fix them which had the wrong color and sheen (which led to the imaginary thrown out paint/avoiding liability story). Using the wrong paint made the imperfections ten times worse than just leaving them alone would have. Then, he wanted more money to fix these imperfections that his own worker Andrew admitted were in his words-"pretty crappy." Over promised, under delivered in every way and every day my husband is fixing something that falls apart. Every mistake made he wanted more money to fix. Screwed up my garden window-he suggested getting a new window to fix the problem. So we decided to get a new window but oh! That will still be a couple thousand extra actually even with the new window. Completely messed up the design of my island cabinets that I never approved the design of because he failed to get confirmation on them from me-he also did not give me a sample door of these to ok before creating-and gave me no rebate on them nor did he fix them so now I just have to live with cabinets I never designed or wanted for my island. If you hire 3 creeks, you'll either be left living with his mistakes, paying him for them or paying someone else for them and you'll be waiting around a long time to do it while Michael legit gaslights you.

We hired them to complete our log home after the log company set the logs, up to the point of getting a CO. They said it would be an 8 month build and provided us with a cost estimate. After 2 years and more than $100K over their bid we finally told them we couldn't afford another penny of their unbelievable overcharges and we finished the rest by ourselves! They didn't even know what they needed to complete to get a CO! Besides that, which was enough, a lot of their work and the work of their sub-contractors was shoddy and incomplete. We had to finish or redo a number of things to fix their screw-ups! They even failed the framing inspection and then charged us to fix the things that they were failed on!! Several of their sub-contractors were not licensed, including two plumbers that they hired, the first one made off with $10,000.00 for about $3000.00 worth of work and Millworks made us eat that, they didn't take responsibility for their own screw-up with that either!! I would not recommend them to anyone especially if you are building a true log home.

Tyler's communication is impeccable and the main reason I will only use Steffen Builders for additional remodeling projects. I had to write this review because my husband and I were impressed by this company and will refer them to everyone wanting to remodel or build in Grand County. Not only is the communication great but they work hard to keep everything on schedule- we rushed them to try to get our place back fully finished by New Years and although difficult they almost made our impossible goal by completing everything the following week. Their work is superior and we are extremely pleased with the results of the remodel. Our town home looks amazing thanks to you. Larry, Tyler and Sue are a pleasure to work with - they even invited us to a Holiday party in their beautiful home. Who ever left picked out the two bottles of wine- has good taste. Thank you because we enjoyed the gift and it was quite the surprise. I highly recommend Steffen Builders!!!!! And if we ever decide to build our dream home - you are our only choice.
