I waited over a year to leave this review, I don't like to do things angry. I told myself I would wait. I have officially cooled off and I am still deeply displeased. My biggest complaint: My husband didn't get his promenade. Our special ring bearer, his father, the groom and the groomsman didn't get their moment/ promenade either. NOTHING was as we rehearsed it the evening before during the rehearsal . What was the point? The men did NOT get any structure, guidelines or assistance on the day of the wedding. What's the reason for paying a second person at the ceremony site if that person doesn't assist and direct half the wedding party?! The groom wandered up to the front after waiting for some direction.... But nothing. He was so disappointed. She is not flexible or accommodating: She also insists on communicating via email- she barely calls or texts. Despite me telling her I don't operate that way. She doesn't care. She does whatever is easiest for her. I felt like she only wanted to make her job as easy as possible. Be prepared brides and grooms to fill out endless spreadsheets. She bragged about her timeline, it was suppose to be a slick and smooth operation. I felt like I needed her to keep things running smoothly, I was wrong. If you want to do a lot of work by yourself and pay her way too much to be rude to your vendors, (the videographers and photographers whom I flew in from Texas, both complained about her giving the wrong time tables multiple times and being difficult) and have her mess up your wedding day, be my guest. I refuse contact. Don't reach out to me. This bridge is burned. read more

My highest recommendation! Most venues on Kauai require a wedding planning and I'm so happy we went with Marie. Marie and her team helped us stay organized and on track with our wedding planning. Marie was amazing throughout the entire process! My (now) husband and I decided to get married on Kauai in May of 2011.... Marie came highly recommended from Michelle (Island Reflections Photography, check her out, too!) and it was by far the best decision we made. Not only was she nice, but she was so responsive with every question we had. Marie understood that we wanted a very private, yet casual ceremony on the beach. Of course, the one week that we are on Kauai, it rained FOREVER! From the moment I spoke to Marie for our pre-wedding consultation, I knew I was in good hands. My now-husband and I had always pictured a destination wedding in Kauai, and we knew that we needed someone to help us as we are located in the Bay Area from California. Throughout the planning process, Marie was responsive, helpful, and always gave us her honest feedback. Her knowledge of Kauai, wedding vendors, and overall planning experience was very impressive. She is very organized, detailed, and tenacious. There is not a wedding question she did not have the answer to. This was really helpful since my husband and I did not visit any venues in Kauai prior to getting married - we relied on Marie's experience and knowledge of the island to select our ceremony venue. My coworker actually referred us to LEK since they did her wedding, and thank god she did...I dread to think how stressful a destination wedding in Kauai would've been without Marie and Ana helping us. Marie was super organized and very responsive to our (many) emails. Having all the docs in Google Drive made collaboration easy as pie. All the vendors she recommended we use did an amazing job. The one potential hitch was that our original florist went out of business a few months prior to the wedding, but Marie was able to quickly find another one that my wife loved and saved the day. Legacy Events Kauai was the best! We had never visited the island of Kauai and we weren't planning on it before having our destination wedding there. So, early on in the planning process, I knew we either had to get married at a resort (which would be all inclusive) or hire a planner. The resort option didn't feel like "us." So, after a ton of research, we found some venues we liked and some planners that seemed decent. LEK truly knocked the other planners out of the water, and we're so glad we went with them! Trying to plan a wedding from an ocean away can definitely be stressful. But, we truly trusted LEK, their input, and their intent. Marie was so patient with us, and went well above her duties. She was always there if we had a random question or no idea where our venue should be. The biggest indicator of how good they are at their job is that we didn't have to worry about anything during our wedding day. We were able to fully enjoy and absorb the day including our family, the games you put together for us, décor, food, etc. They truly put our minds at ease. Can't say enough about Legacy Events! This wedding was a big deal for us (as I'm sure it is for all marrying couples!) and there were a lot of details to manage. Ana and Marie handled everything, held our hands throughout the process, and did a lot to help us with the overwhelm. Let me start out by saying I HATE writing negative reviews. I found Marie on Yelp, and I didn't have the same experience everyone else seems to have had, so I feel obligated to share my honest feedback. If you are looking for someone who is very rigid, and who works entirely off of google docs and spreadsheets, she is your planner. If you're looking for someone who is friendly, helpful, patient, and willing to hold your hand when you're making tough decisions...you may want to interview a few others. Marie had (by far) the best reviews and the most stunning photos I could find when I started doing my research on wedding planners in Kauai. I talked to one other planner, but they seemed pretty old school, and I was impressed by Marie's portfolio. I felt at ease during the welcome call. Marie didn't seem rushed and seemed receptive to my questions and concerns. Unfortunately, once my deposit was paid, everything changed, and I found myself disappointed by having concerns and questions dismissed on several occasions. My husband asked to speak to the DJ several times, and Marie refused and told him he'd have to work off of her document. I asked questions about the officiant, and she told me I could "google" him. I asked if she'd introduce us and she told me to email him myself. Marie wasn't willing to do work outside of her templated spreadsheets, which was incredibly disappointing to us. The reason I'm giving Marie 2 stars is because she truly did have a wonderful book of vendors to pick from, and I'm absolutely THRILLED that I was introduced to Brandi at Blend Designs (people couldn't stop talking about how incredible my flowers were), Mia Moriguchi for Hair and Makeup, Rachel Thurston for photography, Zest for videography, and Contemporary Flavors for catering. Now, the reason I feel so obligated to write this review is because interacting with Marie was honestly the ONLY stressful part about my wedding. Marie was not receptive to simple questions or concerns. While I understand that she has coordinated many events, I had to remind her on several occasions that this was our wedding (our only wedding) and we had questions we needed her help on. I also found myself having to go out of my way to make things easier for her. For instance, I had planned a hair and makeup trial at 10am; and Marie wanted me to do the rehearsal during that same time. I had asked for a later rehearsal time; suggesting we do it before dinner, but Marie was unwilling to meet later in the afternoon because she didn't want to make two trips to our venue. She insisted that my entire wedding party plan around her, and because of that, my brother-in-law and mother-in-law were not able to join us for the rehearsal. Regarding the actual ceremony, I was disappointed to find that there wasn't enough planned seating - even though our RSVP numbers had not changed. I had guests who had to stand, which I still can't believe. Our ceremony was beautiful (thanks to our wonderful officiant Kelvin Ho) but I should mention that it started raining during our outdoor ceremony. When the ceremony was over, my husband and I walked down the aisle and my guests stood around for a good minute in the rain waiting for any direction from Marie. My husband is in the military and wanted to change out of his dress whites into a more comfortable outfit. When Marie found this out, she told him that wasn't on the schedule and that he would have to "hurry up". I'm all about communication and timeliness, but her delivery was terrible. She didn't care at all how that made him (or me) feel. She didn't care about our experience, she only cared about sticking to her timeline. When we sat down for dinner, I was (again) disappointed to find that Marie forgot the 3 highchairs that I told her we would need (via email - which she responded to). Marie told my bridesmaids that she was never informed of this - not true - and incredibly unprofessional. My poor guests had to suggest to Marie that she should ask the restaurant for extra highchairs. After much pushback, she did, but then asked my guests to personally return the highchairs after the ceremony. I paid Legacy Events thousands of dollars to coordinate my wedding. My guests should not have had to go out of their way due to Marie's oversight. Thankfully, Marie left shortly after the reception started. The experience would have been much more pleasant without her. At the end of the day, my wedding truly was the best day of my life and I loved all the vendors that I met through Marie; however, those vendors are not tied to Marie and they work with plenty of other planners. I must re-iterate that the only unpleasant part of wedding planning was working with Marie and being disappointed by how she handled several situations. read more

Marie and Ana at Legacy Events Kauai were exceptional for our wedding. I could not say enough good things about them and would recommend them strongly. They helped us for over a year as we navigated a pandemic, changing restrictions, and a landslide that made our original location temporarily inaccessible. (On the last point Marie proactively found us a new venue and had us look at it before the landslide occurred because she realized in advance that our prior location was at risk of being cut off by floods, and the new location was fantastic). Throughout the process Marie was hyper organized and responsive. She also helped us make good decisions with our vendors who were all excellent. She also went above and beyond to figure out complicated transportation arrangements. I was personally skeptical about hiring a wedding planner going in but am so glad we decided to work with Marie. We cannot thank the team at LEK enough for executing the destination wedding of our dreams! Everything was absolutely perfect and exceeded our expectations in every way. I was very indecisive when it came to wedding details but Marie was incredibly patient and always managed to make me feel at ease after every email and phone call. I loved that LEK laid out the planning documents in a Google Drive, which streamlined and simplified the planning process. Marie went above and beyond to help us get the most out of our budget and yet still plan the event of a lifetime. We are so glad we chose Legacy Events to plan our special day! The morning after our wedding my husband and I were reliving the day. We started talking about what we'd change and there's truly nothing we would do differently (which is saying a lot because I can be critical of pretty much anything!). One thing we heard over and over from guests was how they loved the overall "vibe" of our wedding. Legacy Events recommended vendors that made our wedding feel unique yet like us. If I had to give one piece of advice to a bride to be, it would be to hire a wedding coordinator. And if you're getting married on Kauai, hire Marie! We were lucky enough to find here through a mutual friend. She is so nice and laid back and totally on top of things. Our ceremony was on a beach that she recommended and it could not have been a more perfect location. Secluded and gorgeous! And our reception space was this really weird shape on this lawn and she really made it work. It looked beautiful with lanterns strung all about. The centerpieces were amazing..all the decor was beautiful. She worked within my budget and made everything work. I got more than I ever expected out of my wedding. I loved that she was straight up with me if something wasn't working or something didn't look good. She gave me her honest opinion on stuff and I appreciated that soo much. We were one of Marie's first big weddings (approx. 300 guests). And now, over 2 years later, people are still talking about our wedding!!! It blew all our guests minds! We did it affordably, but tastefully and tried to put our money where it really counted. The wedding was a classy outdoor event with a lot of fun entertainment and beautiful elements that made for a charming and joyful evening for all of our guests, and for us**. **This is one of the best reasons to have a wedding coordinator. So that you, your new spouse, and your families can be stress free, and really enjoy the day without worrying about the details! My husband and I planned the wedding on our own, but Marie was our "day of" wedding coordinator extraordinaire!! She advised us during the planning stages, and on the day of the wedding she was in charge and knew how/when everything should happen. She was the go-to person for all the vendors and friends/family who were helping. Based on her years of experience running banquets at the Hyatt, she knew how we should coordinate the reception's timeline - from layout, set up, and tear down, to food service, music & dancing, and the typical reception festivities. Marie handled all the details exceptionally well. Since it was a large event with a small budget, we worked very closely together while planning, and on the day of she nailed it. Apparently there were a few "fires" that Marie had to put out during the event, but we had no idea until after - and that was a HUGE blessing!! Legacy Events Kauai was just, AMAZING. Headed by Marie, they were so incredibly helpful, and made for an absolutely perfect wedding day. My wife and I got married at the National Tropical Botanical Gardens, which was a stunning location. However, logistics there are BANANAS. There is no electricity, no bathrooms, no NOTHING. From getting permits to have people bring in generators, bathrooms, lights, seating, food, etc, this would have been an absolute nightmare to do and organize. Still, Marie and her team had every detail covered, from shipping in, to cleaning up, so my wife and I did not worry about a single thing on our big day. We got to enjoy it fully and completely, and Marie and her team were so helpful, personal, and happy to help us. Truly and honestly, I feel so grateful and blessed to have had them with us for our journey. I'm quite frugal and at first I was initially very hesitant to hire a wedding planner and wanted to do it ourselves. Marie and her team were worth every single cent, and they allowed me to be present and enjoy my wife, my family, my friends and the beautiful day. Marie never pushed or made us feel like we had to spend more. She kept us under our budget, got us great deals, and helped us make our dreams become reality. What a spectacular experience! Marie is a dream of a wedding planner. She is detail-oriented, organized, has great vendor relationships, is a fantastic communicator, and is super kind and easy to talk to/work with. My husband and I had already been married (we eloped) and wanted to celebrate on Kauai with family and friends. We weren't exactly sure what we wanted. A nice dinner at a restaurant? A venue with a caterer? Dancing or no dancing? A ceremony of any kind? We had no idea! Marie helped us create the absolute PERFECT celebration. From a traditional (and quite spiritual - it wowed us) Hawaiian ring blessing ceremony on the beach to an all vegan and gluten-free plated dinner at one long farm table for 26 guests overlooking the ocean - just, simply WOW. We had a live musician for cocktail hour and then simply enjoyed eating, drinking, and the abundance of speeches/toasts from our closest loved ones. It was perfect in every way. It did happen to be the rainiest day of our 11-day trip to the island :) Of course, after months of planning an outdoor celebration this was a tricky reality to come to terms with. I felt a rollercoaster of emotions that morning as I watched it pouring outside as we got ready. Marie was hopeful we could execute outside without problem. On the shuttle ride to the venue it was raining hard. Marie called to recommend we move inside. I felt strongly that the ceremony should be on the beach, because we'd flown all that way to celebrate with our toes in the sand. A little rain never hurt anybody! I was nervous she'd resist, but her exact response was, "I love your wild spirit. Let's do it!" And so we did. Umbrellas were waiting for us and we celebrated in a tropical storm. Marie is a sweetheart and was instrumental in the success of our lovely Hawaiian outdoor garden wedding. Given that our wedding was a destination wedding and we were unfamiliar with the area and local vendors, Marie served as my eyes and ears in Hawaii. She was very prompt with emails and phone calls; each time I connected with Marie, I was more at ease about the big day. Marie helped me to stay on track with planning, offered suggestions when needed, and coordinated the rehearsal and wedding. Whatever strange questions I had about weddings, or how something should or shouldn't be done, she had an answer. Phew! What a relief! Marie has lived on Kauai for many years and as such knows how to get things done, but in an nice aloha kind of way. At one point, I jokingly said to her that my fiance and I were emotionally preparing for all the possible worst case scenarios (like the groomsmen dropping the wedding rings in a pond). Picking up on my nervousness, she assured me that she has coordinated a lot of wedding and can diffuse even the most stickiest of situations. Marie even claims to be able to predict bad weather within 30 minutes, in which case, she'd have a backup plan. (Although, thankfully we did not have to test out her secret powers.) I called my photographer Blenda Montoro- which I absolutely adore! and she recommended Marie to me. Marie was wonderful! Marie is AMAZING! My husband and I were married in Kauai in Nov. 2011. I didn't think that I wanted to have a wedding coordinator up until it was close to the time for us to head to the island (we live in Brooklyn) to get married. Last minute I was introduced to Marie. She was on top of it! I told her we were still deciding where to have the ceremony and she purposed some ideas. The morning after we arrived, she met us at 7am to show us some places she had in mind. (We were getting married the next day.) We met and she drove us to a few locations. We chose one of her ideas, which she had a few options. (When getting married on the beach, there has to be a back up plan in case someone is in your spot when you arrive.) Also, my husband is Jewish and he wanted to crush a cup or lightbulb to follow old tradition. She created a uniquely wrapped light bulb with white cloth and green hawaiian leaf from her back yard. It was SUPERB! She is an excellent communicator and very efficient. Her attitude is AWESOME and I could not have asked for anyone better. In every meeting we agreed on all the details and I "knew" she would do a great job. First the logistics: We had 160 guests at our wedding in Kekaha, Kauai. There were a lot of logistics involved. All about Marie: She is extremely professional, and all of the people that we worked with thought very highly of her. All of her recommendations for vendors went above and beyond our expectations. If any of her suggestions were not in our price range, Marie always gave us multiple alternatives and was very flexible. Marie also has amazing taste, something that a bride can really rely on when she's given so many options for everything. We just celebrated our incredible wedding and couldn't be happier. It was a magical experience that everyone is still talking about. We had so many compliments on the wedding planners. We found Legacy Events Kauai after some googling and started working with them 6-7 months prior to our wedding. Marie and Tiare are fantastic, Kauai born and raised. When we first started this process I really had no idea what to expect, as I did not have a vision of what I wanted our wedding to be. We decided on a destination wedding to give our guests a much needed vacation. My husband and I are quite busy people and weren't exactly excited about planning a wedding (not really our thing). That is where we found LEK, which we are so thankful for. They are incredible organized and really professional. Marie starts with an initial conference call to discuss all the "big picture" stuff. We were clueless and Marie really guided us. Over the next few months we had 2-3 more conferences calls and then emails probably every 1-2 weeks. On the initial call she really did a good job of setting realistic expectations of what to expect a wedding of our size to cost. We were a bit cautious at first that their reimbursement is a percentage of the total cost of the wedding. However, not once did we feel we were being "up-selled", if anything they went out of their way to lower costs when possible. We wanted to keep things as local as possible and they really delivered. I believe all of the vendors were local, and really wonderful people. And they stayed perfectly on budget, actually a little under-budget. They work through a system of google docs so everything is very transparent. Marie is very straightforward in a way that is perfect for wedding planning. They work with selected vendors that they have experience with, they would often present us with "high, middle, low" cost options. For the venue they came up with great options and described them as "wow-factor", venues where everyone stayed together, and beautiful but budget friendly. Our wedding was a mixed Hindu/non-denominational wedding that included a short hindu ceremony with a fire ceremony. They made the impossible possible, they even found a sitar player in Kauai. We ended having our wedding at Na Aina Kai botanical gardens (wow-factor). It was an incredibly beautiful setting, but did require some complicated shuttling of guests around the grounds, and their day of coordination was incredible. It was truly seamless, everyone was so impressed. My favorite part was at the rehearsal, Marie gave everyone her number and said "From this point forward no one is to ask the bride or groom any more questions, we are going to ensure they have the most perfect wedding day", and it was truly the best day of our lives. I cannot speak highly enough of Marie. I interviewed several wedding planners on Kauai before I got Marie's name from our photographer. To be honest, I was unimpressed with the other coordinators I spoke with- several did not return my call for weeks, or wouldn't be available when we had already set up a time to talk. These are not qualities you want in a wedding coordinator! Then along came Marie. As soon as I first spoke with her on the phone, I knew she was the perfect person to coordinate our wedding. She was prompt, extremely detail-oriented, and reliable. Her price was very affordable. She was spot-on with all the advice she gave me about wedding vendors, etc- which is SO wonderful for a bride when trying to plan a wedding from thousands of miles away. I loved Marie from the very first phone call! First off, she is very very prompt and quick to act, which is very helpful especially when you're trying to plan a wedding from across the planet. She would answer the phone right away and respond to emails the same day even when she would say she would be out or busy, she would always respond. Marie was our saving grace! My husband and I knew our one year engagement would go by fast. What we didn't anticipate 6 months before the date, was that we would be changing tracks from planning a decent size wedding in Southern California to a much more smaller, intimate wedding in Kauai. When it came down to booking music for our wedding, to both of our surprise, our favorite band on the island just so happened to be Marie's husband's band - Greenstone Project! Unfortunately, they were already double booked the day of our wedding, but she was able to work it out so that we still had three guys from the band perform for our ceremony and cocktail hour. Marie and team did an amazing job on our wedding. She is sweet and attentive and made my day stress free. I reached out to her around 6 months before the wedding day and although that's normally considered a short amount of time to plan she kept us on track along the way. What I really like about Marie is you can tell she has a wonderful relationship with her vendors and she has several to choose from, which makes a difference staying in budget. I unfortunately went over my initial budget but I appreciated Marie's consistent updates and also recommendation to cut in certain areas once we went over. This really made me feel like she was looking out for my best interest and what I initially wanted for my day. Also Marie and team did the reception table decor. I'm not sure if they normally do that but in our case our table topper were both decor and giveaways and I wanted something simple (not big floral arrangements). We just got back from our daughters wedding in Kauai. My daughter found Marie's company and we were initially debating whether we even needed a wedding coordinator. We were only planning a small destination wedding and after all, how hard or complicated can that be. Well, we hired Marie and immediately she made valuable suggestions. With Marie's local knowledge, being a native herself, coupled with high expectations of herself and her vendors, she made sure we got what we wanted every time. Her persistence in getting the ukulele player we liked for our ceremony, was a great example of her going above and beyond to get what we wanted! The wedding week was the best week of my life. Due to Marie's persistence with vendors, contingency planning (in case it rained!) and calm and confident demeanor, I never worried once about the wedding or the 2 other events around it we had! It was a huge amount of work for her and her team but she always did it with a smile on her face. Needless to say each event was so special and perfect - from the quality of the food and beverages, entertainment, decor, lighting, to the photographers.
