First, there were only three other people in the adult class which we were told was the only option for our 15 year old. Not one person anywhere near his age. Second, there are no properly experienced instructors/senseis. It just seemed like some energetic teens attempting to teach classes. They were focused on speed rather than technique. It reminded us of a really unorganized fitness class. There were some really silly moves that even the "instructors" didn't seem to be able to pull off themselves. We were tempted to call our son over and make our exit halfway through the class, that's how bad it was. I see now why the Facebook posts seem to be centered around afterschool childcare and school break childcare. That is clearly their main focus and money maker. That's fine. Just not what we were looking for or expecting especially coming from two great dojo's in other states. We were looking for somewhere for our son to make friends, continue to learn, and grow. This place was not going to offer that.

My child is 5, and has the option to come any 2 days a week that work for our schedule. Children learn self-discipline, respect, balance, and strength as they go through the skill levels from the very first day they recite to earn their white belt. Parents may stay and watch, or may leave and return to pick their children up at the end of a lesson. At a child's second lesson of the week, he or she will receive a sticker on their belt focusing on the skill of the week. Stickers are also given out for students who complete the once-monthly homework assignment. Cost for beginners is about $130 a month, either 2 or 3 days a week, uniform is usually included in the initial registration package. T-shirts, also acceptable for practice, may be purchased in the lobby area. Once or twice yearly, an inner-school tournament is held among all the USA karate locations throughout the city. Kids compete, but nobody walks away empty handed. My only gripe is the advertising. USA Karate really uses its' students to plug the karate classes to their friends, and even rewards the students who give out the most vouchers, entering them in drawings for a big prize.

Two hours later, my bank shows an unfamiliar $76 fee attempt from Memphis Kick Boxing. I do not recommend this company, terrible communications and way of business. Currently after asking for cancellation they told me that they will continue to pull out the $12.50 per week since they cannot get the $76 fee!
