Speaking of that, The Dallas Morning News recently published that Woodrow is #1 in academic gains in Dallas. The school was redesigned three years ago into four college prep academies which offer AP and IB (International Baccalaureate). Woodrow and its feeder, J. L. Long Middle School, are the only two IB schools in Dallas. Transfers for those out of the attendance zone are available with applications starting in January. Unlike DISD magnets, Woodrow offers the full range of athletic and extracurricular activities. It is the quintessential American high school experience. The Lakewood area is a bit like a small town and many generations have attended the school resulting in many traditions and an extensive alumni network.
