A great school of choice. The teachers really care about the students and the curriculum is challenging but very complete.

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars I really did, But I'm going to give it one star due to…read morethe service, decor and food itself. Let me start with the service I once asked a teacher if I could get a drink of water and was refused what kind of service is this ? Nobody ever has a smile on their face in the cafeteria I was never asked in the 4 years I ate here how the food was and was never once ever offered a refill. Recently they have gotten rid of the soda machine that never has soda in it, just mostly juices but that was one of the main features I looked forward to every day. I will move forward to the decor this place looks like it was made in the 70's obviously no renovation. Don't even get me started on the bathrooms there are no mirrors in the men's bathroom and most kids transferring from first hour to second are Julling in there so it's hard to get to actually use the facilities. Next is food, the picture shows what I had for lunch today as soon as I grabbed my food I could tell that the tots were in the temperature danger zone cause they were cold and soggy the PB&j was okay and the strawberry milk was pretty good. I hope next time there will be more effort put into our meals. That is all .

I chose this school because everyone in my community used to rave about it…read more Let's start from the beginning: my son started in kindergarten and things seemed okay-ish. But once he hit first grade, red flags started waving like it was a parade. I noticed his entire class was filled with kids of color -- which in itself is fine -- but then on a field trip, I saw another class (shoutout to Mrs. Vanderholt's class) that was almost exclusively white. It was awkwardly obvious. I asked his teacher why the classes looked segregated. She hit me with a shrug. Now, about that field trip. While I was waiting for my son to come out of the restroom, I overheard a teacher (shout out again to the same teacher) ask, "Is he blaaaack?!" when a staff member reported a kid playing in the bathroom. The staff member looked like they were still in high school and clearly had no clue how to respond. The teacher then stormed into the restroom and screamed the child's name like she was summoning a demon. That poor boy -- I have no idea what he goes through daily, but if that was her "public field trip" voice, I shudder to think about her "classroom voice." Then came the conferences. I use the word conferences loosely because they were about as helpful as a screen door on a submarine. The teacher-to-student ratio? A joke. And apparently, speaking above a whisper is now a felony. My son came home saying they played a game called "Cemetery" -- where kids pretend to be dead... by staying silent. Yep. That's the actual game. Can't make this up. And no, I didn't teach him that, nor does anyone in our home play "funeral-themed" games for fun. Oh, and to add insult to injury: I once recommended this school to a friend whose child was literally reading at 2 years old. She drove 40 minutes just to enroll him here. What did the school do with her little prodigy? The conferences considered him "average"-- He's now 9, reading at an eighth-grade level, and crushing math. So unless their problem was "he's too smart for us," I don't get it. Maybe his skin and hair didn't fit the school's unspoken criteria. Bottom line: If you're considering this school -- RUN. I wanted to believe in Copperwood. I truly did. But between the weirdly segregated classes, tone-deaf teachers, useless conferences, and "play dead" games, I don't recommend. Although, the librarian there is PHENOMENAL!!!! Talk about a spunky, sweet soul! He helps with pick up and drop off every morning and truly set my day up for success! shot out to MR. R!

I went to this school years ago from K-8th. I wouldn't like my children to go here, only because…read morethe teachers are not helpful. I struggled in math (still do) because my 5th grade teacher, failed to teach us an ounce of math. Set me back for years. This is the same teacher that made an announcement about my older sister who she saw on TV, and directly insulted my sister, calling her rude, intolerable, uneducated, and falsely speaking on behalf of a student body (she still works there today) then she proceeded to e-mail my mother to tell her I was not being truthful. Had an occasion where a principal had threatened me, used an incident that happened outside of school as a weapon because she was the aunt of the girl i had issues with. The Choral program and teacher changed my life, along with the best teacher ever, Ms. Land.

One of my friends passed away and they proceeded to take her out the promotion program. They said it was to "protect other students" but that was just a very disrespectful thing to do. When other girls would joke about her death and spread rumors about it, they would not do ANYTHING about it and when they "did" it would never stop. The only thing they would crack down on was kids selling drugs, that's it. This school has made me have so much low self esteem, The only good thing about this school is the extra curriculums.

Good school, nice teachers, but the office treats you like a criminal for the smallest thing…read more Apparently, my kid's friend is in a friend group and he's kind of an executive there or whatever their hierarchy system is. And apparently one of the kids in said group was kicked out of it in fifth and sixth grade for doing inexplicable things in the middle of class, but it was misworded to the teacher what he did and he faced little punishment. He tried to rejoin in sixth grade but was kicked out. Now this year he tried AGAIN and succeeded. Now this group was kind of like a Democracy, so they held a vote to kick him out, and a majority voted in favor, to which he brought it up to the principal and my kid's friend was called up to the office. He explained why they had kicked him out due to the "things" he did in fifth grade, but the vice principal pushed that all aside and claimed it was harassment to kick him out of the group, and even if they did, the kid who was voted out would still be allowed to sit anywhere anyway. To which the kid brought up a good point, if they voted him out, he wouldn't have to move, could still sit with them, yadda yadda, so therefore kicking him out would do nothing except tell him they do not want to be involved with him anymore. To which the VP switched the topic talking about how he was putting peer pressure onto the other kids, and how he talked to them about the whole thing, and they said they wanted him to stay in. I'm sorry??? Pretty sure YOU put them under peer pressure because NOBODY wants to look like a bad guy in front of the VP, so how is holding a vote peer pressure but straightforward pressuring kids in your office ISN'T?!?!?
