During my first visit, a worker with gray hair approached us and told us that if a manager came by, we should act like we were buying something. I thought it was a strange and unprofessional comment, but I brushed it off and didn't think too much of it at the time. About a week later, I returned, and the exact same employee approached us again and made the same comment, telling us that if a manager came in, we should pretend we were going to buy something. At that point, it no longer felt like a joke and came across as completely inappropriate. While we were trying out guitars in one of the practice rooms, he repeatedly walked by, stopped, and stared at us through the glass. This happened multiple times and made us feel extremely uncomfortable. At one point, he commented on one of the guitars we were looking at and said, "You're not going to buy that guitar, that's an $1,800 guitar, right?" I found that comment extremely disrespectful and dismissive. After continuing to watch us, he eventually came into the room and asked, "Are you guys going to buy something or what? What's the plan?" By that point, I told him that the constant staring was making us uncomfortable. Instead of listening to what I was saying, he continued talking and insisted that I listen to him. I've been to many music stores and have never been treated this way. Being repeatedly watched, questioned about whether you're actually going to buy something, and being told that you're probably not going to buy a guitar because of its price is not acceptable customer service. This experience felt disrespectful, unprofessional, and made us feel unwelcome.

Gave me a breakdown of the layout and what they had in stock and also helped set me up to try out some guitars I'm interested in. I'm big on customer service so Joe nailed it. I'll definitely be coming back to purchase my next guitar here.

Relying on GOOGLE'S Siri, I arrived around 09:15 hrs m, to find business hours had been slightly rearranged at Norman's Rare Guitar Shop. Not being one to waste time, in the same little strip mall (TOPEKA VENTURA PLAZA) I saw a coffee shop (PEET'S) and decided to treat myself to some (coffee), and I did. I went in, got hot black coffee & a Blueberry Muffin. Before realizing it, it was 11 am. So I mozied'on'over to NORMAN's. The video I took, as I approached the guitar shop main door, will tell you more than words could ever say. Once I was in the guitar shop, I felt a nostalgic Deja-Vu pinching me. The same atmosphere, feel, sounds surrounded me like when I used to go to Sam Ash and other, now gone, guitar & Pawn shops. Be that as it may, I hope my photography will satisfy your curiosity of this scouting mission I went on today and as always ... ... thank you for stopping by! 05/06/26 ... UPDATE As promised, Greg Sinclair drove from Redondo Beach (I think) up to my place in North Hollywood, and picked me up. AS YOU RECALL. Greg has been inviting me to accompany him to go to NORMAN'S RARE GUITAR SHOP. We first had lunch on Venture Blvd at BLU JAM. It was very trendy for me, at least. Then we got to the guitar shop and Greg introduced me to Michael, whom you will see a short clip playing one of their guitars. Greg and I had a very satisfying visit at NORMAN'S, as we strolled around inside. We also met another guitarist who works there-Joey, I believe and if I'm wrong, I will correct my error. They have live music on certain days and as soon as I can get their schedule, I'll share it! All in all, THANK YOU, GREG, for your considerate invitation, picking me up at home, treating me to a fabulous lunch at BLU JAM restaurant, a fun time at NORMAN'S RARE GUITARS, and best of all ... your companionship. Great little instrument store in Chatsworth, perfect spot to buy your first guitar, or if your…read morechild is interested in learning guitar, bass, violin, or ukulele this place has a fantastic selection of inexpensive quality instruments that will get your foot in the door and be serviceable for years. The owner is very friendly and helpful, and bends over backwards to make sure that customers feel at home and all questions are answered. They also have an incredible selection of traditional Chinese instruments, which is a niche I have not seen covered by other music stores in the Valley. There is a small parking lot, spaces are reserved by suite #, this is Suite E and there are several spots right by the entrance. The door may be locked during open hours, however do knock, the owner will open it and welcome you in. The brands offered are Glams and Caraya, made by the same manufacturer that also builds instruments for the big brand names, and this store is a wholesaler (hence the great prices). I was not familiar with these brands before coming here, but after spending a while playing these instruments they are much higher quality than what I started out with when I was first playing, and they are beautiful when it comes to the appearance, real mother of pearl inlays, beautiful stains, it really is a lot of value for the price. Tanyan also offers great accessories including leather straps, strings, jewelry, and ornaments, so if you are looking for a gift for a musician this is a great place to shop! They have a VIP program for repeat customers, be sure to ask about it. This is a great place for burgeoning musicians!
