Well the first leg of the hot wing tour is complete and I thought it was a success! It took place…read morein the Southeast area of town and included Wingin' It, Grillin' Wings and Things (Park Meadows), Wing Hut (Hampden and Chambers), and Woody's (Buckley Road). We started with 50 wings and 5 sauces at Wingin' It for 9 people (thanks for joining us Dan N) . All the sauces we tried were pretty good (Honey Mustard 5/10) and I thought the good sized wings were cooked nicely with a good crisp. Next up was Grillin' Wings and Things. Since Dan N continued on his journey to Home Depot we were at 8 people. We ordered 2 dozen wings with three different sauces. (Asian Bite unanimous). Wings here are fried, then sauced, and then grilled to caramelize the sauce. These are the wings pictured in the first photo. Grilling these good sized wings is definitely a great idea. A little bit of char, a nice crunch and the added flavor of the flame. We did notice that the sugar in the sweeter sauces lended itself better to grilling because of the caramelization while the savory ones lose some of their flavor? We were served small cups of the sauce with the wings though so more sauce could be added. We were also comped a 6-piece order of their pork shank "Pig Wings" which everyone loved! Thanks GW&T! Wing Hut was our third stop. This was Dale Z's rec and Wing Hut was the only spot out of the 4 that I had had before and i did enjoy them previously. They have a decent selection of craft beers and they also have Jones brand soda on their dispenser. We ordered three pounds of wings (6-8 pieces per) with three sauces. (Inferno Ranch 6-8) The smallish wings were cooked well but rather heavily sauced. With such a large and interesting selection of sauces (not nearly the 50 that Wingin' it boasts though), there are other sauces we would probably try on any subsequent visits. (They are caddy-corner from Dry Dock Brewing which is def. an advantage for them). Last stop Woody's Wings Aurora. Now down to 6 people we ordered 3 of their 6-piece wing orders with three sauces. A much shorter list of sauces AND a 99 cent upcharge for their Honey Sriracha sauce? Is the HS sauce that good? Is it the only sauce they put name brand ingredients in? Was the 5-gallon bucket the cock sauce came in blessed by David Tran? WTH, we'll bite. (Honey Sriracha 6-6 I'm gonna have to come up with a recipe at home!) I think there was a consensus that the good sized wings were slightly underdone and hence not very crispy and the meat closest to the bone had that slightly slimy mouth feel like a frog leg. A big thanks to the crew that came out to join us on this inception tour and to Cyn C for hauling us around. Always great to see you all! Yeah, I'm slightly winged out so it might be a bit before the next one and I think we'll take Cyn C's suggestion and maybe only do three spots next time so we can sample more sauces at each place. But, stay tuned because it is going to happen!

Doug Y,…read moreand his co-captain Shea S, helped those of us with a bit less wing experience delineate the nuances of a good wing. We toured four wing places, and via a democratic process, decided on how many wings and how many flavors/sauces to try at each spot. We all worked well together, taking turns paying the bill and dividing up the cost per person (at some point, it felt like we just kept passing money around to each other, but hey! I ended up with a bunch of cash in my pocket, so no complaints here). If you like wings, you should join us for the next tour (which hopefully isn't super soon, b/c my cholesterol level needs to recover).

We narrowed it down to Rome and Tuscany, and then began pricing the different hotels, tours, rental cars, etc. By happenstance I heard a radio ad for Che Bella Tours and realized that they offered exactly what we were looking for in Italy -without any of the hassle! Che Bella's inclusive tours provide accommodations in a very nice Rome hotel, a gorgeous villa in Tuscany and a combination of meals at great restaurants throughout. We could not have been more pleased with our experience. Sandy Gregory our tour operator was really helpful, responsive and enthusiastic from the very beginning. She gave us good advice about choosing flights, and sent us a packing guide, too. In Italy, Sandy proved to be just as knowledgeable about the history, art and customs as the professional guides who led us on our private tours of the Vatican and the famous cathedrals and duomas in Tuscany. Each day, as we headed towards another beautiful medieval town, Sandy would give us a break-down of the day ahead, and give us options for exploring, shopping and dining with a scale of being totally on our own or having her along as a guide and/or lunch dinner companion. It was great to be able to wander around by ourselves, trying our Italian out and discovering the magic of each place on our own, and also to have Sandy meet up with us at certain times to check in and give us more insights or advice about places to see. The guides that Sandy arranged for our private tours were art history experts and they really opened up the experience of each place for us. It can be a bit overwhelming to be surrounded by so much Renaissance art, so a knowledgeable guide is really important. Plus, we were whisked to the front of the very long lines to see the Vatican museum in Rome and The David in Florence! The hotels where we stayed were wonderful, especially the villa in San Gimignano. I still dream about it! The surrounding vineyards and olive tree groves, the beautiful pool, the wonderful breakfasts and elegant dining. I fell in love with that place. Che Bella Tours gives you a couple of days to be on your own and do nothing if you want, and we spent a very enjoyable afternoon lounging beside the hotel pool, drinking Rose' and taking in the spectacularly beautiful views. One of the highlights of our trip was the cooking class in Certaldo that Sandy arranged for us. We learned to make fresh pasta, osso bucco and a dessert, and we had so much fun in the process then enjoyed a delicious meal at the end that we had prepared ourselves! As soon as I returned home I ordered a pasta maker as we are forever spoiled by the amazing pasta that was our daily staple in Italy. If you have an opportunity to take a Che Bella Tour - do it! The experience offered is so rich. It is not just a tour, but a true appreciation and immersion in the culture and art and lifestyle of the country you are visiting.

The owners are actively involved in the community and consistently give back, especially by supporting local youth organizations and fundraisers. The menu offers a great selection of Italian favorites, from delicious pasta dishes to plenty of other options, and everything we've tried has been consistently flavorful and well prepared. They've expanded the restaurant, so there's much more seating than there used to be, and on a beautiful Colorado evening, the patio is a fantastic place to enjoy a meal. Whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout, the experience is always great. The service is consistently friendly, attentive, and professional. I really enjoyed learning about the area's history and recent revitalization. I love it when cities can repurpose old buildings rather than tear them down. The tour started and ended at the train station which is an impressive building and is nicely air conditioned which helped us cool down at the end of the tour. The earbuds made it easy to hear throughout the tour even when there was traffic noise. Definitely bring plenty of water if it's hot out; there is shade which helps, but it is a walking tour so be prepared to be outside for the majority of the time. I was very happy I was wearing my sun hat. This was a fun activity and it was great to learn about the area of Denver where we were staying.

It is my go-to order at any Maggiano's I visit. My friend ordered the Branzino Crab Imperial. I noticed that the bread was a little different than other Maggiano's restaurants I've been to. Normally, I'm served a generous portion of Italian bread before the meal. However, here they serve some sort of buttered rolls with pinch of flaky salt on top. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, as the bread was delicious. It's just a little different than what I've encountered at other Maggiano's restaurants. This dinner might have been the only time the two of us were quiet during my entire trip to Colorado because the food was really good! My only complaint is that my dish was a little bit bland. It's always been seasoned a bit better at other Maggiano's locations that I've visited... But it wasn't enough to keep me from ever ordering it again. Our server was very good and really attentive to our needs. I also appreciate how sturdy the to-go box was because decided to take my leftovers with me to the airport. The bag and container got a little beat up during the security screening but because they container was so sturdy, there was minimal spillage.

M as he reservatiibsbif dining on Sunday evenings! We three each ordered from the Sunday Neighborhood menu, $29.99 for 3 courses (small appetizer, full-sized entree, small dessert). It was plenty of food and 2 of us brought home leftovers from our entrees. I had an appetizer of Whipped Ricotta Crostini (Truffle Honey, Ciabatta Baguette)--the ricotta and crostini were delicious, but the topping with garlic seemed an off note, and I didn't care for that. Entree was Pasta Primavera. The sauce was perfect, vegetables heavy on zucchini (which I love) and fresh peas. Dessert was a pistachio cannoli - the pistachio was ice cream, and whipped cream was served too. It was fairly small, but I would not have wanted it any larger! It's my birthday, so they added a candle. When I go again, I want to try their Pinzi, thin-crust style pizza. Order the bread plate appetizer--the rustic bread has a marvelously crunchy crust and soft inside, and it comes with "really good olive oil" with olive slices in it. It was terrific! Another nice touch - they have small packets of wooden matches. When did you last see those?

I think the flavors are pretty standard for something that's "upscale," with brussel sprout shavings, pear slices, and other things to spice up the texture/flavors. However, the dressing was just so light that it was hard to tell that it provided any flavor to it. We also got the Fig and Pig pizza which was a table favorite. The prosciutto balanced pretty well with the fig jam and fit perfectly in a bite while on the flatbread. It's a very cute establishment with fairy lights around, but all of the waiters we encountered were awkward in their own way. Our first guy would awkwardly bumble around us and get very close to refill our waters, and the second guy took away one of our plates without asking if we were done and the person was still clearly finishing off her food. Overall, not bad, but service could be slightly improved.
