Who doesn't love Lego? We're obsessed so we always stop in a Lego store while traveling. We ended up picking up the fry truck Lego set due to the size that the box would fit back in our suitcase. The place was big and busy for a Monday afternoon. There is a lot to look through- but everything was very organized and clean. The kits seem reasonably priced- I did look up prices just to make sure- before I bought anything. My kid just wanted to pick some pieces off the back wall- so we grabbed a small box, or so we thought we did. When we got rung up the worker was kind enough to inform me the box we grabbed was for the the mini figures and transferred everything to the correct small box- and told us we had room to fill it up. Really big lego store with so much selection! There are a few larger models that you can take pictures with, outside you can sit on a bench with lego friends. Inside they had a storm trooper. They had a couple of stations where you can build your own minifigure. Lots of staff willing to help you out. Since it had a larger selection then the other suburban stores we frequent, it was nice to see the fancier larger model sets. Expect to spend full price on the lego set, but at least they have reward points! read more

My boys love it here and enjoy creating sets. When birthdays roll around this is usually a stop for us along the way. My new 13 year old pilot had his eye on the Concorde. Instead, he chose a different aircraft so he can build with his younger siblings. The prices here are similar to what you find at other stores. There is also a rewards program. There is plenty to choose from and can also create your own mini figures. Service was awesome as they checked on us to see if we had any questions. read more

The young lady that helped me name starts with a K I can't remember black girl so nice and sweet her energy made the experience awesome. I was looking for the 911 Porsche and not only did I find it cheaper than the Lego store in the Las Vegas airport. Las Vegas wanted 200 bucks. I found it here for 169 plus I got a free gift. I would definitely come back here and I hope I get the same experience that my sales person cashier gave me this time. read more

It's really just a store, but the murals and window displays are awesome. Be sure to walk around to the left when exiting the store to view the LEGO art! Great for if you are already shopping in the area, but not with a special trip. read more

If you were a kid like me, Lego has been a huge part of your life since as long as you can remember. This store definitely fulfills my childhood dreams. They have so many options, from creating your own mini figures (each figure can have 5 parts and 3 figures are $9.99) to full kits that range from inexpensive to "holy crap, why?", allowing you to find something no matter what your price range is. I personally recommend if the Lego store is your main stop to save up a minimum of $100 because the cool stuff is always expensive. If you're just looking to expand your basic block supply or a few lego people, you could probably walk out only spending $20. Outside of the products for sale, they had a fun area that scanned your hand and showed you what your lego character is. I also loved the lego dragon that was curved around the store and the lego people with a spot on the bench for a human, making a great photo OP. I am definitely glad I stopped in on my trip. read more

This isn't the best Lego store I've been to, but it's a neat one nevertheless. And it's in the iconic Water Tower Place building. If you're a Lego person and enjoy shopping, you'll wanna stop by. I used to bring my son to this store specifically every post-holiday to browse the best and latest in brick genius. I had Lego's as a kid and gave mine to my son when he started playing with them. When his interest started to peak we'd come in here for a set that we couldn't find anywhere else. He'd spend close to an hour looking at everything they had and picking out the one he wanted most. We made a trip down earlier this month for the first time in several years, as my son is now a teenager and not into Lego's anymore. But we both enjoyed reminiscing about our trips when he was younger, and there were several sets that we looked at and said..wow..I'd love to build that! Wanna go to this store? OK! Leggo! The LEGO store is expensive. It's too expensive. But so is this whole mall. It's located at Water Tower Place which is an extremely fancy Mall in the north part of the Loop right on Michigan. Parking around here is non-existent so don't even think about it unless you want to Shell out a lot of money. That's not a play on words - there's no Shell station here. My voice dictation just randomly capitalizes things, much like America randomly capitalizes on the rest of the world for its own ends. Ew. Bringing your kids here can be great for them but if they start wanting to buy stuff here than forget about it - unless you're loaded - or in so much debt that you don't care anymore which seems more likely these days - because you'll need a lot of money just to make that happen. Pretty cool spot for Legos. Pretty much like all the other Lego brand stores. Had an great interactive Lego ID simulator which would tell you which Lego mini-figure you were. Famous buildings of Chicago were on point. But nothing tops the one in NYC or Mall of America. Had all of the new stuff including Home Alone. Even think I saw Titanic. Not much selection of for custom mini-figures. Would return again and purchase something if I can squeeze it into my suitcase. read more

I thought it was going to be a bit more interactive or have "special" things worth stopping in for, but I can just order online and avoid the mall crowds since there was no signature experience that made it worth the trip. read more

The employees at the Lego Store here at the Water Tower are awesome. I've been here several times before on previous trips and came back again recently. We actually visited twice during our vacation and were greeted warmly upon coming in. There are several building stations throughout the store for kids to just play and free-build their own creations. So what is special about this place? Face it, most of the time, Legos cost about the same in most stores. You can get Legos online, at retail stores and bookstores, but the selection here is pretty comprehensive, and the friendly service stands out. They have hard-to-find sets and a lot of Ultimate Collector Series sets. Another great feature is if you buy a mini-fig (we got some Harry Potter mini-figs), you can open them up right at the counter and if you want to trade for another one in their display case, you can pick one out that you like and put the one you got in their display. My kids loved that feature so they were able to pick out and trade figures they wanted for the ones they got. PROS: Awesome service, ability to trade mini-figures, great selection of hard to find sets CONS: can be crowded and busy with lots of kids running around. LITTLE GIRL: Hey mister, this table is just for kids, not for old men like you. ME: I know you are, but what am I? LITTLE GIRL: I was going to use that piece for my farm. Mommy! MOTHER: Could you please let my child have her Lego piece? ME: You're not the boss of me. MOTHER: Really now. Aren't you rather old to be playing with Lego? ME: I am rubber, you are glue. Whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you. MOTHER: You're a moron. ME: I know you are, but what am I? MOTHER: Shut up! ME: Why don't you make me? MOTHER: You make me! ME: Because. I'm a LEGO VIP! Since my son is into Legos I joined the free VIP program here this past summer. You earn points the more you purchase, and it doesn't take long to cash them in. Why? Well, because Legos are damn expensive! (Ooh, sorry for swearing, any kids reading this?). The VIP program gives you cash off your next purchase, which is nice. Star Wars, Harry Potter, the City collection, this store has all the latest and greatest. Store employees are about the most helpful I've seen anywhere. I've never been here when I haven't been asked a few times if I need help finding anything, or someone explaining to me how something works. I like the Star Wars character magnets, sold in three packs, and the keychains of characters such as Harry Potter. Stocking stuffers are easy to come by here. This store also has a few build-your-own stations, so the rugrats get all excited and may get underfoot or in your way. But it's easy to get excited by LEGOs! They're pretty awesome. read more

We visited this store on Black Friday and I asked the gentleman greeting us at the door about all the displays and who made them. He was very knowledgeable about it, which I appreciated. It was interesting to find out that there are "master builders" who only work on building those oversized displays. All the employee's get to build the smaller ones inside the display cases for each package. They had a great Chicago display outside in the display window which was awesome. The gentleman also told me that the storm trooper weighs upwards of 100lbs. Kinda cool! Watch where you walk, there are lego heads covering the floor, I'm sure it was because it was a mad house, but someone could easily step on one and get hurt! That's the ONLY reason they got four stars, otherwise they'd have five :) I know my dad would have slipped if he'd have gone in. read more

Visit was at 5:00 PM on a Thursday. The store was relatively slow for a weekday, late afternoon for a location in a popular shopping complex. The 5 star rating is based off of the following: Cleanliness of the store, floors were clean(not a brick skewer across the floor), did not see any wet spots or trail of salt from the outside world, nothing was sticky to the touch, and display cases were clean and smudge free of fingerprints. There are sections of the store where you can build mini-me figures and it was very well kept, definitively great if you have kids that need to be immediately entertained, though the downside is that you can purchase what you built, or put it back where you found it and hear the wrath of your screaming children. The store was well stocked & well organized, did not see a shelf that was empty. Plenty of items to choose from. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable about their products, talked about their favorite sets, asked you about what you liked and guided you to the right spot to pick something out. They talked about their VIP rewards program as well. No pressure to commit to something that is offered for free. You get points for the stuff you buy, coupons, freebies, and exclusive early access to cool things. read more

I grew up playing with Legos, and they were one of my favorite toys. I love that there is a store devoted to them, but I actually don't think it's the best place to buy Legos. The store isn't that large, so they aren't going to have every single set, just really popular ones. Most of the store is sadly devoted to selling various branded sets with specialty pieces you can't use for anything other than building the thing on the box. They do have a small section in the back of the store where they sell generic sets with 250-1000 pieces, but the options are slim. Along the back wall, they've got bins of pieces that you mix and match. You an fill a large container for $15.99 or a small container for $8.99. The signs say that the large containers can hold 325-375 pieces, and the small containers can hold 125-175 pieces, but obviously this depends on which actual pieces you want to get. I've never actually taken the time to count how many pieces I ended up getting, but I will say that a good strategy is to put big pieces in first and then sprinkle smaller pieces in the cracks. If you're building some project and really need a specific piece or a specific color, I would recommend getting all the pieces you might use together, because they do switch them out regularly. Also the containers themselves are really nice for storing dry goods like beans or rice afterwards. Despite its lack of actual products I want to buy, the Lego Store is a fun place to come and just play with Legos. They have several tables with huge bins of Legos next to them where you can just build whatever you want, and also a ramp where you can race Lego cars. read more

They have so many different themes and models to chose from. There are also huge statues made out of Lego. Technical bizbaz makes me spaz. I love businesses that solve, rather, than perpetuate problems. Today, Legoland fixed a mindnumbing technical bizbaz problem that had me all spazzed out, so all is calm again. Today we went to Legoland armed with a generous Lego E-Gift Certificate from Grandma, which she had purchased online and which Lego had then emailed to us. Note how efficient and simple the Internet has theoretically made the art of giving!!!! Go to the Lego web site, type in the credit card number and the beneficiary grandkid's email address ... Done! Er...well...little did Grandma know she'd done it "incorrectly." She had no idea that she hadn't purchased what she'd intended. We chose a normally very expensive, huge, bright red, real boyish, testosterony, Star Wars Lego space ship thing that was marked down about 35%. Grinning ear-to-ear, we carried it triumphantly to the cashier, presented our gift certificate and the cashier says: "You can't use this certificate in a Lego store." With raised eyebrow and attitude, I ask: "What should we do, take it down the hall to Nordstroms?" Now, for the technical bizbaz that makes me spaz: Cashier: "That type of 'e-gift certificate' can only be used to order Lego products online; you can't use that in any Lego store. Plus, that item you want to buy has been discontinued, so it's no longer in our online catalog, which means if you want to buy that item you can't use that certificate at all, anyway." Glad I'd taken my blood pressure meds lately, I knew better to argue with him, and set off to find a manager. Long story short, the intelligent and sympathetic manager called his district manager, and in a voicemail message explained the obvious: with that e-gift certificate, Lego had essentially dragged us into the store all eager and excited only to disappoint. It was hardly apparent to Grandma or anyone else that what Grandma intended to buy her grandchild was the experience and fun of the hunt in the Legoland store, but that's not what she bought; and, for gosh sakes, what's the point of selling these certificates online if you need a Ouija Board to parse the fine print to realize they don't really allow the recipient whatever Lego products that Lego sells, new, discontinued or otherwise? I left the Lego manager my business card, and asked him to call me if he had any luck, because we really had our hearts set on that normally very expensive, huge, bright red, real boyish, testosterony, Star Wars Lego space ship thing that was discontinued and marked down about 35%. About an hour ago, I received a phone call from the Lego Lady who left me a really sweet voicemail with instructions about how to contact her so we can obtain whatever we want with the money Grandma gifted with such good intentions. The best part was imparting that news to the thrilled, soon-to-be-owner of that normally very expensive, huge, bright red, real boyish, testosterony Star Wars Lego space ship thing that was discontinued and marked down about 35%. And Grandma, thanks, because that ear-to-ear grin is back.......now we're talkin! We're going back to Legoland first thing tomorrow morning for our booty. read more

BUIlD IT & THEY WILL COME This store originally was located in the Bridge Shops at Nordstroms down the street. This new location is more accessible for tourists plus you are where all the shopping seems to start. When you enter the Water tower shops from Michigan Ave take the esculators straight up and then continue to walk straight. You will eventually walk into the Lego Store located on the back wall. Legos have turned into a big business. When I was a kid you bought a box of Legos and you used your imagination and you built stuff. Now Legos are competitive and cross branded with movies. Like building the Star Wars Death Star. Yeah I've got nothing to do for the next week but follow along and assemble 2000 pieces of Legos into complete destruction for Darth Vadar. Luke Skywalkers is gonna be pissed. Legos have become the modern 3D puzzle for people. Wait till these kids have arthritis, then its back to jigsaw puzzles. The store is fun because it has an area for the kids to sit and play. It is great because this is how I played with Legos. A giant pile and I just started building. I love watching my little one come up with original ideas or hearing...Daddy help me find a piece like this...I need it. It reminds me of being a kid. I know some kids need direction and motivation...that's where branded Legos from Star Wars steps in. It's a big partnership plus makes them a lot of money. Have you seen the price of these sets. I still have a bucket of legos at home and I enjoy watching the little one spend hours putting stuff together. I love seeing the imagination and creativity at work. That is why I loved Legos as a kid. I love the giant Lego sculptors in the store. I also learned that they are built off site and glued together. I always had a fear of accidentally knocking one over and it shattering into 10,000 pieces. Then the staff makes me rebuild it and I'm there for months. So I can cross that worry off my list. You don't have to be a tourist to visit the Lego store even though you will find a ton of tourists shopping here. Legos are international. This past few months my son was addicted on his phone. He likes playing Minecraft and Roblox. Everytime he built a mini house on Minecraft he shown to me and I was amazed how good he was. He was just 6 years old. I decided to buy him a lego. One of the reasons is to avoid too much interaction with the phone. It's not good for his eyes. I'm surprised when I entered this shop. It has a lot of different variety of toys. You can easily find goods for your kids. I bought a box of legos that can build a robot. I also bought a pack of different legos that can build anything including a mini house. I'm sure my son loves it. I'm glad that I found this store. I'll definitely be back here again. read more

And then I stumbled across this location and was all excited. *Yes, a lego-fix.* It does have lots of sets but not so much of the peripheral lego stuff that I love. It was sort of disappointing.
