My Mom was just recently in hospice at LVHM. My family and I could not have asked for a better experience for her end of life. Every single staff member including the doctors, nurses, aids, etc. were caring, compassionate, engaged and competent. Do not bring your loved one to this hospital!!!! We brought our mother in for a kidney stone and she never came home, we lost her on mother's day. We were told initially the kidney stone was all they found during testing. (I realize these are painful) Over the next few days she became more & more confused & we were told she had sepsis. Then a day later we were told she had a mass. The way she cried out in pain for an hour at a time, screaming "God help me" , we had to chase the staff down to get her pain meds and still had to wait an hour. Would a doctor let their own mother scream in pain for an hour? This happened 3 times!!! I was holding my mother's hand by her bedside to console her & the cleaning lady that came in to clean the floor demanded I sit down so she could clean, I'm worried about my mother's life, I'm sure the floor can wait. My friend looked at me like did she really just say that?!?! When we decided hospice was the next choice we had a friend who advocated for us to go to the St Luke's Hospice house. We had a meeting with the doctor & palliative care staff, they really didn't answer any of our questions. When asked why my mother is now passing away from a kidney stone, their answer was a multitude of reasons. Very vague. She had to stay there yet overnight because of transportation purposes. We were told they would keep her comfortable every 2 hours with pain meds. I didn't want to leave her, but i needed to go home to get a few hours of sleep. I came back at 8 am and found her with a mouth full of mucus she was choking on as she was trying to yell out in pain. I asked the nurse when she had her pain meds last and the response was "i think at 4:00 am". What?!?!?? I think???? I had to ask to have her mouth suctioned out and it took over 20 min to a half hour until they came in to help . These are the final memories that will always haunt us. I do have to give the credit where it's due, we had several amazing nurses who sincerely care about their patients. They were amazing. But I will never step foot in this hospital again. read more

My wife went to the ER with pain and Dr. Wallace told my wife she was fine and her iron was low and she should eat bison. No scans no nothing just to eat bison. So we went to the Hecktown ER n they did a CT and it made us an appointment to urology and scanned showed she has a tumor. So to Muhlenburg you guys need to do better, maybe actually care bout your patients because this is not ok. read more

I'm only giving a 2 star rating because the nurses I had were great and Monty the Therapy dog was there. The overall experience I had was not bad. I did hear a nurse/doctor (couldn't tell because my curtain to the room I was in was closed) speaking to a colleague (colleague is switching to night shift). The nurse/doctor said "Just remember we do not save lives, we are population control". Now, I understand you cannot save everyone, but that it not something you just say out loud... as a doctor or nurse you try your best... but not call yourself "population control". My 86 year old neighbor went here by ambulance with only the clothes on his back. I went in the next day with some clean underwear and his cell phone and charger. I plugged it in right by his bed. He was transferred to rehab with everything except his phone and charging cord. They say no one found it. So now he has no one's phone number with him. And had to buy a new phone in 3 weeks when he comes home. Such a terrible thing to happen!! read more

Excellent care, but long wait. I'm from the NYC Metropolitan area, so I have high expectations from healthcare institutions. I was pleasantly surprised at the care received. If there were a Zero available that would be my choice, except for the ICU staff. The ICU staff were attentive, kind and professional. I cannot say the same for the Bethlehem South entrance 2nd floor. The pure neglect and abuse started from the moment he arrived on the 2nd floor. The nursing staff ( specifically Flor and Dimitris) were neglectful and (when they decided care could be provided) were rude to my father and flat out refused his requests. I arrived approximately 2 hours after my sister was visiting with my father, to find him soaking wet , with soaking wet bed sheets and blankets and no water. He called me crying stating he was cold and no one was answering his call bell. I attempted to call 3 times, the first two times his nurse disconnected the call before I could even state who I was and why I was calling. The 3rd attempt I requested to speak with a supervisor but was instead transferred to the nurse again. She took my call but was dismissive and would not answer my questions. She instead blamed my father. The blanket my father requested was thrown on the bed still folded (when I arrived) and he was told he drinks too much water, so NO he could not have a second cup. He was not on fluid restrictions. I did arrive and speak with the Nursing Supervisor on staff, she was very apologetic and took the time to wash my father, change his sheets and make him comfortable. I seriously don't care about how over worked the nursing staff is, I also don't care about Lehigh Valley/Jefferson's bottom line. Patient care should be the top priority and if your staff cannot do that with care and compassion and professionalism then do you really want them representing your organization. The acceptance of these horrible nurses and horrible care is an indication that the Health Care system is about Big Money not quality of care. read more

Everything from security to nursing supervisors are all contradicting themselves and have no idea how to be on the same page. You've been warned. They treat patients and visitors like garbage. You get better customer service at Walmart! LVH should be stripped of all certifications. Each shift had different rules and attitude problems. toddlers could do a better job than this place. I was hospitalized from 10/15 through 11/9. I was told by a caseworker that I would be going to an inpatient facility in PA, ie: Reading or Philadelphia, twice only to be carted away in my scrubs, no money, no phone, no ID, nothing, to a facility in New Castle, DE where I was left to rot for 9 days. LVHN never informed my family of the transfer which led them to panic as I was missing for 23 hours with no information from the hospital whatsoever. I spoke with a patient advocate who was much less than said job who told me that there were no case notes in my file from a case worker and that I consented to go to Delaware. These are lies. I was 2-1/2 hours from home with no way out. They lied. They lied and lied even more. Stay away from this hospital. read more

My husband and I went to the emergency room at this hospital and he had to stand for seven hours with a broken back. There was no empathy. There was no care. There was no concern when we finally got into the emergency area. We had to sit in the hallway for several hours, even though there was orders in for a stat procedure. The MRI guys are great! They were friendly and empathetic. Having to get an MRI is not fun, especially when it's not an open MRI but these guys made the experience bearable. They provided pants (important), socks and a warm blanket. Plus they sign a little thank you note. They could work on the music (ha!) but there's not much a fire alarm noise will drown out. From the time I entered the emergency room to the time I left, the experience was nightmare. My body looked like a pin cushion from incompetent nurses who had no idea how to take blood or didn't care. The call button to get a nurses attention was either disabled or again didn't want to be bothered. Last count I waited 2 hours for someone to check on me, by then it was too late. The night staff was intentionally belligerent and at 2 instances, I was assaulted physically and verbally by what seemed to be a nurse, there were witnesses. She berated me and told me, she and the hospital didn't care about me to " shut up. Maybe years ago the facility was a star, but not now. The place would be deserted at night and any feeling of safety was gone as no one answered the call button and when they finally did acted as if they were doing me a favor. I can't say that they didn't fight with each other. they did nightly either complaining about their jobs, the patients and each other. I can give you a pile of more examples, I took to writing them down there were so many. I thought about going above their heads and haven't completely ruled it out. male doctor that looked around 40-50 lifted hospital gown without consent and started touching my stomach. multiple people were watching and door was open. I stated I wasn't comfortable but he didn't stop. I was cooperative the whole visit and was polite yet they still didn't care even when it got to the point where I was crying while asking them to stop. I am a female minor and this felt like predatory behavior towards my end. Don't ever go here. I haven't been comfortable with any form of physical touch since and think I will forever be terrified of hospital rooms. read more

Pretty uneventful visit. Everything seemed clean. Wait was only 10 minutes, which I consider good. The office seemed pretty deserted at 4 on a Monday. Only 1 registration desk was open, the rest had the lights off. During most visits I've had the LVHN staff bring up records on the computer and verbally review everything before any treatment. This time we were ushered into a room and treatment began right away. One minor thing occurred that could have been avoided with a review. The technician kept to herself. Didn't really give much instruction. Afterwards we were walked out and led towards the wrong exit. We weren't given any sort of dismissal. Stood around looking confused for a second before some ladies working in a different area inquired and let us know we were probably free to go. read more

If you have to do the hospital thing at LVHN for whatever reason this is the place you want to going to. It's sooo much less chaotic and ridiculous than Cedar Crest in every possible way. I despise all the Yelp lemmings who use this term but here are a few pro tips to help you with your Muhlenberg experience. * Patient parking here at times is still an issue. Not an issue like at Cedar Crest but if you come during the day on weekdays unless you trust your car to the valet staff expect to walk a bit. Too many people camp out in the Health Spectrum Pharmacy spaces for hours and too many staff park wherever even though they have designated areas. Security supposedly is tough on the enforcement front against that type of stuff but trust me, in reality, they're not. * Way too many people come to the ER here for a bunch of total nonsense which causes wait times to balloon. Next door there is an ExpressCare location which is in essence LVHN's version of a Patient First or an EmergiCenter. Of course the downside to the ExpressCare versus the other two would be the significantly shorter hours. The upside would be the non-existent wait because everyone is running to the ER for the sniffles. I've done the ExpressCare thing now three times in the past two years and I've never waited to be seen more than ten minutes. * Speaking of the ExpressCare, another great end around versus waiting hours in the ER is if you're coming for some kind of testing or imaging is to either first go to your PCP and get a scrip or go to the ExpressCare and get a scrip then you can head up to the Diagnostic Care Center on the 2nd floor and more or less have little to no wait versus camping out in the ER for hours for something like an X-Ray. * Last thing would be compared to the miserable experience you're almost certain to have if you get a scrip filled at the Health Spectrum Pharmacy at Cedar Crest, the staff here is beyond great and the wait is never bad. Good spot overall and things indeed are run far more efficiently and smoothly. Definitely come here versus Cedar Crest. read more

I love LVHN out of all the other hospitals in Northampton, Lehigh and Schuykill counties in PA. Always had positive experience with Lehigh Valley. Top notch doctors, radiologists, physician's assistants, nurses and other employees. Excellent service by Kerri-Ann,Curin and Kat. They made my procedure go smoothly and as painless as possible. Special shout out to Linda in volunteer services. Thanks to David in transportation - very pleasant, did everything to ensure I got to my destination as pain free as possible! I been locked away in my bedroom mostly for 4 years til i completely lost it And felt maybe I should just end it all. So I called suicide hotline before anything, and they helped me get to cedar crest, then after 3 days I was transferred here to the behavioral health unit, BH2 I think? Not sure. All I know is, you guys have made a massive impact on my mental health for the better. I truly felt like I mattered and maybe there is hope. I can't thank you guys enough for helping me. I've been here several times I had a double bypass here always like to place tonight I went in I waited approximately an hour and a half. Three people that came after me went in before me but whatever I was in obvious pain sitting right in front of the intake desk with three people nothing was said after an hour and a half they put me on a bed in the hallway still at this point no one took my vitals or anyting after waiting another 20 minutes I decided I was leaving I don't think I'll ever go back.... also I don't know if I mentioned I have a history of heart trouble and that's why I was there read more

I recently had an unfortunate experience at the behavioral health emergency department of Lehigh Valley Hospital Network Muhlenberg. The nursing staff's lack of compassion and empathy, along with their rudeness, made my stay extremely distressing. My requests were ignored, and I felt unheard. In a frustrating situation, I was forcibly injected with medications against my will, exacerbating my distress. The head nurse failed to explain to me the side effects of the medication she injected into my leg. When I asked her she said "I don't know, I'm not a pharmacy tech," which is completely unacceptable for someone in that position. I told her perhaps she needs to go back to school. I'm considering filing a lawsuit for the level of incompetency and neglect I received while there. Also, the unsanitary bathroom conditions, including a dirty toilet, added to the overall discomfort. Additionally, there was a noticeable lack of communication between the staff, which contributed to the overall sense of disorganization and impacted the quality of care I received. St. Luke's Anderson BHE department is significantly better by a long shot. Their nursing staff is competent, compassionate and exhibits effective communication between staff and patients. Their facility is also much cleaner and well kept. Their patient rooms are warmer and nicer, they even have a TV in each room. Perhaps LVHN Muhlenberg BHE should model their department after their competitor's, because if I have another mental health crisis in the future, I will NOT be returning to LVHN Muhlenberg. I feel as if there are a ton of improvements that could and should be made within the BHE department at Muhlenberg from the staff working within it as well as the rooms and facility itself. I was neglected, and not treated, at my directive. Multiple patient rights were violated, lack of staff on Memorial Day. Intentional delays to bill insurance highest amounts possible. Absolute last place I would go even if I was dying and that's up for debate. About 2m before I had my daughter I experienced every symptom of preeclampsia but was told by my OB it was weight gain. In one leg. My baseline is 110 so any weight gain is noticeable unlike most of the women in this area. Symptoms became more severe and I was sent to the ER. I was basically told I was being dramatic. FF a week and I go in for delivery. I almost died from my BP going up so high TWICE. My daughter wasn't monitored once after she was turned (breech) and my husband almost delivered my baby Bc everyone was sitting around gossiping about pts and not doing their jobs. I experienced flat out discrimination from the charge nurse. On the L&D floor I had the best nurse thank god bc I was alone with my newborn on heavy meds and feeling awful for putting my daughter in danger by choosing this hospital. All they cared about was that I sat my experience was great. My daughter had a month long NICU stay. No one would check on her for HOURS and they had no idea I was there. Drs were condescending and acted like I was wrong for asking what they were doing with my daughter. Nurses were lazy and complained to me constantly. I have since obtained an attorney so I have to leave a lot out for now but I suggest you run. read more

My father is currently at LVH Muhlenberg and I am very disappointed in his care. He is not walking and has accidents in the bed. I arrive and no-one is changing his bed until I arrive and call for someone. He said he has had a few accidents since he arrived because he takes water pills and is not allowed to get out of bed because he has been falling and that's why he is in the hospital. You can smell it as soon as you enter the room. His fingernails and feet were blue yesterday because he was cold from being wet so long with no socks on and he was sitting up so I know someone had to have been in the room. I know working in a hospital is a very stressful and tough work but please take care of our family members that's why they are there. He is on the cardiac floor and has a heart condition. And also staff needs to pick up things that fall on the floor that are are unsanitary. I picked them up instead. I do need to recognize a nurse's aide named Evelyn who finally came in and helped me change my dad and got him all cleaned up. Please LVH please work as a team and check more on patients who require more care. read more

I recommend LVH as a whole even with the hideously long wait for the cc ER. I'd always choose them or muhlenberg over a Luke's campus or the old Easton hosp. ( now st Luke's Easton. ) drs at LVH are smart capable and genuinely life savers. My personal team has saved my life more then once and I'm forever greatful. read more

Ended up still needing an ER a few days after my negative experience at Anderson. I was here a total of five hours, not unexpected, and it's not like they waited on me hand and foot or anything but I was triaged right away and I saw a doctor right away who put me on an IV had a thorough conversation and ran tests. I wasn't miraculously cured,I wasn't expecting it, what I expected was someone to do a thorough filtering of everything and make sure that I was reasonably ok. This they did. I felt awful when I left to go home and follow up with my doctors but still I felt confident that I wasn't in any great danger & isn't that the point of the ER read more

After having spent a tense morning at St. Luke's two years ago, a bout of chest pains this afternoon made me even more nervous for a trip to an ER. LV Muhlenberg was closest so that's where I ended up. Luckily for me, it was a good experience! Despite being very busy, they managed to get me in and out in less than four hours (which I don't consider so bad considering how many tests I had done). The ER rooms had TVs to keep my mind occupied and the staff were all extremely friendly & kept us up to date with our progress. I felt comfortable at discharge that they knew what they were doing. I would definitely recommend the ER at LVM! read more

This is the worst hospital ER experience I have ever dealt with. Came in for appendix pain, chest pain, back pain and shortness of breath. I'm still sitting in the waiting room four hours later. They have taken people who have come in after me before me. I have asked two times about going back and they keep telling me I'm still low on the list. Guess chest pain, back pain and shortness of breath are not important along with sever appendix pain. I will never come back here even if I'm dying. read more

I came here once with an extremely painful stomach ulcers, I had to wait several minutes in clear pain waiting to be helped and then after the initial look over by the ER doctor they could not find a way to stop my pain. Fortunately they were attentive and allowed me to stay in a cot until the pain passed, this was a nice gesture but I would have liked some type of solution to my problem. I ended up going to a separate doctor to get treatment later that month. read more

I went to the emergency room at this location around 9 o'clock at night with a gash in my thumb. After getting my blood pressure taken, I was sent back into the dirty waiting room. I wasn't offered to wash my hand. I wasn't offered clean bandages. I just sat with 6 bloody paper towels while I was bleeding for over an hour and a half. The waiting room itself was full of people being seen for the flu. No one coughing had masks, or were offered masks. The attendant working seemed more annoyed to be bothered rather than trying to help anyone. So after I sat for an hour and a half bleeding in the waiting room, I was finally seen by a doctor, who basically told me to wash my thumb out, and used a liquid bandage to seal it up. This liquid bandage didn't even cover the tip of my thumb, and I had to go to cvs after and get more to make sure it stayed sealed. Today I received a bill in the mail for $133.19 marked down from $275 after my insurance. So I basically was charged $275.00 to wait until my thumb almost sealed itself, and then a squirt of liquid bandaid. After this experience here I would NEVER recommend anyone to come to this emergency room. I would go out of my way to avoid this location. Came to ER with my girlfriend who is suffering from severe abdominal pain. Waited over 1 hour to actually be seen and they weren't even buisy. When we finally got a room the dr ( who had the worst bed side manner i have ever seen ) anounced to everyone in ear view the procedure she was going to do embarrassing my girlfriend, and when my GF said something about it the Dr told her "this is the ER, you have no privacy". Very unprofessional. No care for HEPA LAWS. And to top it off after being here for 4 hours, intake finally came to get her info. And they sent her home still in pain and told her they didnt see anything from the 15+ blood tests they did so they couldn't help her. Doctors have no bedside manners. They stand at the foot of the bed and look the patient's chart then tell the nurses what to do. they make no contact with the patient. And every day it's a different doctor.The nurses are terrific.The doctors have no compassion and they have no personal relationship with the patient.
