I had cataract surgery here using premium lens that were not covered by Medicare or back up…read moreinsurance, so I had to pay out-of-pocket for them. Turns out they were well worth it, because I have distance and near vision and everything in-between. I can see the dash controls on truck now, can see the little, funky, red (unfortunately) numbers on stock trading app that have lousy contrast with black background, and can see road signs in the distance. Because of other eye conditions, vision was not instantly improved, and these providers let me know what to expect and that it could be improved by an additional procedure when Medicare would cover. That was this week, and I can see again. Everyone in this facility was polite, professional, appointments were scheduled conveniently, the ophthalmologist has a sense of humor, and both he and optometrist are highly skilled. I definitely recommend this facility for eye care including surgery.

However, when he attempted to inject lidocaine into my eyelid before the procedure, he injected the lidocaine into my left eye. The lidocaine included ingredients toxic to my eye, leading to excruciating pain, permanent eye damage, and disfigurement. As you can see by the attached picture, my eye is permanently disfigured. I was only 34 years old at the time of the incident, and it has caused immeasurable distress in my life. To make things worse, neither Dr. Chappell nor his employer, Moyes Eye Center, have taken any responsibility for their actions, despite Dr. Chappell admitting this under oath during his deposition: Q. Are you aware that one of the allegations in this case is that you inadvertently injected Lidocaine into her eye? A. Yes. Q. Are you able to rule out that that occurred during the procedure? ** A. I cannot rule it out. ** A. There's a number of possible causes for her postoperative post-procedure course. Q. And I know you went through some of them with me, but my question for you is are you aware if the doctors at Moyes who were -- who saw Ms. Dehnert in 2022, if you all were able to reach a consensus about the cause of her postoperative issues? A. Through many discussions and many evaluations, we have possible intraocular injection of medication as the most likely cause, with a number of other possible causes. I have been forced to hire an attorney and this matter remains unresolved, with Dr. Chappell denying my claims and offering me no compensation for my injuries. I am a single mom to a young daughter, which makes the emotional and financial stress of this incident even worse.

I went back to get another pair the following year, but the lab made an error in the lens, so they had them remake them; And again they were not right! So, the folks at Blue Springs Optical figured out why they were not correct in the first place and ask them to remake them a final time. Thankfully, that pair was perfect! It's not something that typically happens, but it's great to know they won't stop until the customer is able to see correctly, and is happy with their purchase. I highly recommend this business!
