If you need basic, simple eye exams, this is a good office. However, if you have a medical issue and need to see a doctor, good luck! I had an issue develop and they were able to get me in that day, but it was really a waste of time, because I needed to see a doctor for the issue. I was told that they have only 1 doctor and he is only in on Tuesdays. His first available appt. was almost a month away. Everyone was really nice, but I cannot recommend this office. read more

I began with an evaluation by a doctor for cataract surgery. He was very kind and he explained what was going on and we the first appointment. The surgery was successful and the recovery was about a week and a half and during the week and a half the company Discover vision decided to fire him because he refused to upsell lenses to senior citizens which the company knew Medicare would not cover -so the older people would have to pay the difference!!! so to return for my second eye surgery I had to be operated on by another Doctor who was overworked because he had to cover the patients of the doctor fired because that Doctor had ethics and obviously the rest of them didn't!!! read more

I had my annual eye exam with Dr Fowler in December. I also had one in 2023 with another doctor who I don't remember. I complained at both exams of distorted vision, missing letters when looking at their charts, and an inability to see clearly even with glasses. This last appointment Dr Fowler appeared impatient. I asked if I had eye problems or was just a little hard to please. She said both. A few weeks ago I was finally frustrated enough to seek another opinion. I went to another doc who was able to diagnose a stage 4 macular hole. Discover's docs seemed more interested in just providing a glasses prescription. With this condition not being diagnosed for so lond the damage may be permanent. If all you need are glasses, go to Discover. If it's anything else find another doc. read more

Discover vision independece office is very terriable and their permit to stay open should be evaluated for the following; I ask for referal to different office because they schedule me with a surgeon not covered by my insurance and different from the one I choose and covered by my insurance. call them muliple times because they did not sent the referral that I ask for. one vey rude lady start shouting and hang up on me, another employe told me she email it, which it is completely hippa violation. I call for the manager to tell her what happen she did not pick up the phone, I left message twice she never call me back. eventhough I cancel my surgery the office keep sending me a reminder for the surgery really!!!.. neither the employe or the manager know how to do their job. very bad customer sevice, unprofessional, rude, violation of privacy is there. the only thing they care about to get money for surgey. read more

Jokers...pay my $10 copay after my routine eye exam, four months later I get a bill for another $30. Call and they tell me they billed my medical insurance as I'm diabetic. My medical insurance has no provision for vision, I have separate vision insurance with another company for that and a $10 copay. So now four months later they want another $30 to make the $40 copay the medical insurance wants. What on earth, there is no benefit whatso ever to me as its the exact same exam, they just decided to bill insurance I'm not sure how they got the information for as I wouldn't had given them my medical insurance for a vision appointment. I was a patient here for 5 years. I saw 4 different optometrists. Two were stiff and unfriendly. One was in such a rush I wasn't convinced I had received a thorough examination. The best one, the one that listened and explained my eyes to me, left to move out of state. If the office staff and opticians weren't bothered, irritated, and curt by the existence of customers, it might be worth sticking around to try to find another optometrist, but I think I'm done. read more

I love the doctors there. I drive a good ways to see these doctors rather than the one closest to me because I trust them, and feel very comfortable with them. I've had lots done on my eyes in the last 4 or so years. Sometimes there is a wait, but I'm okay with that because the care is exceptional. I'm not a happy customer. Two different doctors and two different prescriptions. I have never needed glasses. My vision is pretty good. I wanted a pair because I work on a computer all day and felt that my eyes were tired or strained at the end of the day. The 1st dr. ordered bi-focals for me. I ordered the glasses, added the anti-glare, scratch resistant, etc. and spent $282. Then covid happened and when they arrived I could only pick them up to go, no adjustments, etc. Within a few days I called Discover Vision and said something was wrong because it was blurry. Glasses should make everything about perfect. They said they were closed and to come back when things reopened. I tried the glasses reading a book, on my computer, using my cell, and driving, and they just weren't working like they should. I made an appt. when they reopened and had to pay $45 for another vision test. This time dr. #2 gave me a different prescription. A basic pair 1x. I took it downstairs to the eyeshop and although these were much cheaper, they were not going to offer me any refund or even credit when I gave them my current glasses to change out the lens. Total BS! I will never use Discover Vision again. The only good thing, is that the doctors were professional while doing their job. read more

After my checkup visit with Dr. Doane (who has done an amazing job with my cataract removal and treatment of my eye issue), I stopped at the Optical Department and asked for help with a broken temple to my glasses. Lindsey offered to replace the broken piece with rubber tips on both temples. She was fast, friendly, and did not charge me for the service. All of the staff at Discover Vision have been friendly. Mask precautions are thorough with masked staff at the front door to check your temp and prescreen questions regarding covid. There are notices visibly posted in the optical department by bright green baskets to put any frames that have been tried on into for cleaning. It is very reassuring to have professionals taking care of your vision needs! read more

I was seen at your independence location. My appointment was at 8:45, I wasn't seen until 10:10. Staff was very unprofessional and I overheard them snickering about the reason I was being treated. There was ZERO communication given about there being any kind of delay, no apology for my wait. The doctors assistant got snarky with me when I asked how much longer it would be after I had already been waiting for 45 minutes! One of the front desk staff told me she was going to find out what was going on and never got back to me. Both of the receptionist were rude and unprofessional. I've been to the location in Independence and to the one in Lee's Summit. The receptionists were great, the doctors assistant was nice (although both times she walked through the hallway way too fast), and the doctor was unimpressive. My biggest complaint is that Discover seems to have a policy of over-booking appointments. Both times I was there for more than two hours. When sitting in the waiting room at the Lee's Summit location, there was a woman there who complained she had been there almost three hours waiting on her husband. My wait time between checking in and seeing someone was over an hour. Listening to other patients confirmed the same thing. If you have time to waste good Doctors here. I had been going to the Leawood location for about the last 5 or 6 years but my Doctor there retired. I was so pleased with my visit to the Independence location. The receptionist was very personable as well as professional and efficient. The technician was also professionally friendly and proficient. I thought that Dr. Emily Williams was just wonderful. She was so engaging as she went about the exam with a lively sense of humor to put me at ease but still very serious and attentive to her responsibilities. If i could give them zero stars i would. I was sent to discover before by my family doctor. I have never been treated so rudely in all of my adult life. on the first visit .wasn't so bad doc got to me withing 30 min checked my eye wrote script went home all was well had me come back in 4 days..second visit i was in waiting room 30 minutes and in back room for 30 min. kinda long but tolerable.. looked at eye for 30 seconds and said come back in 1 week. which brings us to today. I went in got put in room in 15 min but sat in back room for over an hour... no one came it to say "it will be a little longer" no one even said "were running a bit late". one nurse on way to room said "crazy day" but an hour in a room sitting in a chair alone with not one person saying anything . when the doctor finally came in the room, 1 hour and 15 min past the scheduled time of my appointment. i said to the doctor Dr. Dixon " I thought that the second visit was a long wait of 30 minutes but my gosh. its been over an hour in here waiting 4 you." he replied "well if u don't like it you can always leave!" i said "wow i figured a professional Dr. would be able to run a doctors office without leaving people sitting alone over an hour." his response was"I don't run this office" and is said "apparently" . so instead of him apologizing for the long wait he tells me to take my leave.. Now that's service. if you value your time as well as your money don't go to Discover vision center in Independence. i did not pay them the 25$ for the copay for today's visit id like to see them try to get another cent .. read more
