Having searched very hard to find a reasonably priced hotel which offered private bathroom, air…read moreconditioning, on-site parking, breakfast, and wifi all included in the price (I don't always ask for much!), I am certain that I did well to locate the Clarendon Hotel in Katoomba which provided everything except the private bathroom - all for $85 per night. The bedroom was a good size and included a hand basin with hot and cold water. The queen sized bed (we had been promised a double) was firm but comfortable. Wardrobe space was good. The downside to our bedroom was that the floor creaked really badly! The air conditioning was excellent. The shared bathrooms (separate male and female) were adequate in size and were generally keep very clean. Breakfast was more than basic - 5 varieties of cereal, full cream or light milk, white and wholemeal bread, butter and margarine, and five spreads were provided. Apple and orange juice were available as were tea and brewed coffee. Slices of watermelon were also available. As anything ran out, it was replaced quite quickly. It was very satisfying both days that we were there. Important for any family or older people wanting to stay, there was no noise to be bothered by. But there are no elevators and the hotel has a ground and two upper floors. Would we stay here again? Without any doubt, YES.

I know, it's sad…read more But I spent many a night on tortured feet sitting through some interminably self-thrilled support band go way past their allotted 30 minutes of fame, so I've paid my dues. I've earned seeing fabulous music in a place where you can sit down. The Clarendon is a haven for music lovers west of, well, Circular Quay, and the range of musos they get to grace the tiny stage is impressive. Many only play The Basement and here, and a couple of nights a week you could show up and see blues, jazz, indie, world or a well-loved local take the spotlight. Bigger names can sell out fast, so buy tickets early if you're at all organised, and most of the time you can eat in as well. Never done so myself, but have had the odd glass in the cocktail lounge by the log fires. And you can always stay the night, of course. The walls of the small theatre are painted with wonderfully twee opera-audience scenes, all red curtains, and the overall vibe is relaxed and comfy. I've seen Irish bands, Tartar songstresses sing in Russian, wept at upclose indie icons and come away with blues-induced tinnitus which left me grinning stupidly for days. A happy place, much loved.

The tour buses all stop, but not for long, so if you can wait a few minutes you can get the whole thing to yourself, if only briefly. There's a little shopping center nearby with a few eateries, both sitdown and takeout. There's street parking around and it seems like there's plenty and it would turn over quickly.

Hard to believe, I know…read more Drive up with your family in your station wagon, park right outside your room, lob put of the car and into the classic 8os-style room, put the kettle on and make yourself a cup of tea using one of the sachets provided and the little tub of milk in the fridge, and plan your attack on Jenolan Caves. Perfectly situated at the end of Katoomba's main street, this place is also perfectly adequate for a night or two's stay, and perfectly priced. They get tons of blow-ins for weddings, weekenders, that kind of thing, so generally you can't check in before the 1.30 advertised time as they'll still be cleaning rooms from 10.30am checkout.

It was clean and comfortable. The WiFi worked really well which was a plus. But, the one real highlight was the ironing facilities. They only have one iron and ironing board for guest use at the guest laundry, but WHAT an iron. It was by far THE best iron I have ever had the priviledge of using at a motel. I would recommend this place just on the iron. If you're lucky enough to be passing through Lithgow and need to stay the night, but need well ironed clothes the next day, stay at this place, the ironing experience will be well worth it!

Simple and contemporary hotel design, this hotel was booked very last minute because of a flight delay that occurred the night before. With very strict noise ordinance, the airport shuts down at 11pm allowing no flights landing or taking off until the next morning. Luckily rooms were available. Very clean and comfortable, I didn't get to use all the facilities as this was a late night stay. My room had 2 double beds, mini fridge, large TV, black out curtains, medium size bathroom with plenty of extra towels, coffee maker, iron & ironing board, and equipped with central air con. Front desk was extremely warm and welcoming. Nearby eateries such as McDonald's, KFC, Outback Steakhouse, Krispy Kreme, and Five Guys all of which wasn't really visible upon arrival late at night. At the time of check-out mid-afternoon, the surrounding area seemed very suburban and many business establishments all around. I also grabbed a hotel pamphlet learning that Mercure is part of the All Accor Hotel Group including popular brands like Raffles, Fairmount, Sofitel, Novotel and many more hotels worldwide!

We stayed at this lovely place for two nights on our first visit to the Blue Mountains and both John and Sipha made sure our stay was as comfortable and homey as possible. It made us glad to be there at night after a whole day of trekking. Their installations are the perfect balance between classic home feeling, and high end customer satisfaction installations. They even have their own small cinema for those cold nights you want to keep warm and relaxed! Breakfasts were always nice, sharing the morning with the hosts and some other guests. They provide a lot of information and help to make sure every guest enjoys their stay at their home. Next time I go to the Blue Mountains, I'm not even going to look at other places. We'll go straight to the Katoomba Manor. Highly recommended

Located at the end of Katoomba's main street - and right next door to an Aldis - this charming and…read morefriendly hostel is a pleasant place to enjoy a weekend in the Blue Mountains. Think carefully - this is a *hostel* and not a hotel. So, it will not have all the amenities certain types of travelers will demand. But, if you're a low- key, easy-going adventurous type who likes a clean room, a fun youthful vibe and an interesting Arts and Crafts Lodge-y styled decor, then I recommend a stay. Our room was ensuite (translation for US folks - bathroom/shower in room) and was immaculate. We stored wine and cheese in the communal fridge with no problems and used the large, coin- operated lockers on our last day to store luggage during one last hike (hostels are great, but remember the old adage - "there's at least one thief in every hostel") and enjoyed the sunset -with a glass of wine - from the back patio. Overall could not have been more pleased with this location. PS - Do be advised that the way back to the train station is *uphill* so give yourself a few more minutes.

Staff was very welcoming and helpful in providing advice about trails suitable for the limited time I had in Katoomba and where to buy groceries from a good local organic coop. The room was comfortable; bathroom was clean; showers were hot with good water pressure; kitchen was well-supplied and clean; lots of space to hang out; okay book exchange, but that's not really something within the hostel's control; and location is an easy walk to start hiking down into the valley and back up the Giant Stairway.
