Checked in around 2pm, then hit the spa! Our treatments weren't until 5 but we hit up the pool, saunas and other cool amenities. The hotel is super nice, staff is super duper friendly! Our package includes a 30 minute spa treatment plus 3 course dinner for 150 euro, which was pretty good. My scrub/massage was awesome, felt refreshed! Dinner was delicious! Rooms were very nice and the buffet breakfast the next morning was bomb! If you get a chance, take a walk around the grounds. Overall a great little get a way spot to relax and get pampered!

There is lots of land to roam around and explore including a huge golf course. The rooms are spacious and have lovely bathrooms with a shower and a bath. Free wifi in the rooms, a fridge, hairdryer etc and even robes and slippers! There's an indoor and outdoor pool with loungers with comfy pillows if you want to relax by the pool and read a book. There's also steam rooms of various temperatures, foot spas and nice showers. On a quiet day you can really lap up the peace and serenity, drink unlimited amounts of tea, coffee and juices and just relax. I had a Swedish back and shoulder massage from the Beauty Salon. It was amazing! They even have a hair salon! You really don't need to leave the hotel over your stay as there are plenty of options to eat. The Botanic restaurant or the Cellar Bar (or room service) have got plenty of choice on their menus. It all comes from the same kitchen anyway. I was so impressed with the buffet breakfast. So much to choose from! Probably the biggest buffet breakfast I have ever seen in a hotel. Fried, scrambled and boiled eggs to choose from! The staff are very helpful and friendly too. I couldn't have asked for more. I really enjoyed my stays here (3 times in 2 years) I recommend it highly and I know I'll go back again.

It was a whistle stop first time visit for one night only and an almost 4 hour drive from near…read moreCarlow to get there. As we turned in off winding roads in the dark we saw lots of Christmas trees and lots of coloured lights. It was impressive alright and I was glad to turn off the car. It's an impressively huge hotel and the reception was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Check-in was a pleasant, quick experience. We got a room upgrade, which delighted us. We were offered someone to take our bags to the room. This was a Black Friday deal that included a 2 course meal. So the room was delightful, two double beds and the usual tea/coffee/hairdryer/iron and a rather small tv on the wall given the size of the room. The room was cosy warm and it was appreciated as it was a cold night outside. I tried out the steam bath and jacuzzi. They were superb but two things annoyed - the changing room was unpleasantly cold coming from the jacuzzi and the shower (and I tried more than one) was unreliable. The shower water flow work hands free, there's nothing to push, so it was a light or similar. It went on and off randomly and despite me waving my hand over the 'light' pushing at it and so on it remained hit and miss with more miss than hit. I was tired and I found this to be irritating. Then to dinner; we were seated quickly in the restaurant. I found the starter I had good, but not great and - at the price - it should have been great. The chilli sauce and the tartare sauce were out of jars. My sea bass main was even more disappointing, again at the price it should have been top notch. It was poorly cooked, poorly seasoned, not as described on the menu (it looked more like trout) with overcooked, to near mush, side vegetables and not great chips either. I was tired too, so I decided to eat up what I could and shut up but I didn't enjoy it. The waiter was not focussed on serving us as he should have been. The price of a glass of wine is the same as a bottle of wine in M&S and the price of one cocktail gets me an M&S Dine in for two with a bottle of wine. Like almost everywhere else they sell those miserably tiny and annoying 200ml bottles of coke and nothing screams rip-off to me as loudly as these do but it's an all to common rip - off now. It was a great nights sleep and the breakfast coffee, fish and croissants were ace. I also rant about the bacon and sausages served up. Like most hotels and this hotel seems no different it's the cheapest sausage and bacon that's served up. Once a hotel is four star or above it really should use its buying power to do better. Sausages with artificial type skins should be banned, these are made of collagen, often derived from cattle skin, cellulose, or plastic. Likewise bacon loaded with phosphates make for an unpleasant eat. So, it's 4 star on balance with the dinner food, under seasoned and unexpectedly poor value for money with haphazard service. We are booked to return in April 2020 for a longer stay and we are looking forward to it, so watch this space.

Lough Rynn…read moreCastle AKA that place where Brian O'Driscoll got married is a series of period buildings in a secluded estate which is conventiently not too far off the N4. While it can be lovely to stay in historic buildings there are also downsides. The original castle is not a very large building and so the hotel's 43 rooms are spread throughout a number of buildings, some of which are connected by corridors and some are not. There is, as yet, no pool, leisure centre or spa in the hotel, so services are limited. That is certainly not reflected in the price which was 175 for a regular room for one night. The rooms themselves are a lovely mix of old style and modernity, but there are some little things that might get on your wick. Our room was unconnected to the main hotel, which is contrary to what my friend was told when she booked the room. The was an electricity box in our room with elicted quite a loud hum, and our room looked out on the beautiful view of a building site (which will presumably be a pool some day)! The function room was in a modern building which is quite unobtrusive, but is a bit of a walk from the reception and lounge areas at the front of the hotel (although that probably depends on how high your heels are and how much you've had to drink/need to pee!). Pluses had to be the service, the food and the grounds. All of the serice staff were super friendly and accomodating. We were checking in for a wedding and had come straight from the church. The guy showing us to our room took pity on us in our high heels and drove us the 50 metres in a golf buggy! He even offered to let my friend drive after she expressed as her fervent wish - she chickened out unfortunately! The food is really good and both the dinner and the breakfast were excellent. If you have time take a walk in the beautiful walled gardens and take in the views of the lakes. There's also a nature trail which I didn't venture on due to lack of suitable shoes. A lovely place but a bit overpriced.

The rooms, themselves, may accommodate 1-5 people with either one, two, or three beds per room. Bright, clean rooms with large windows and warm, cozy comforters. Bathrooms are clean and sinks are located outside the bathrooms. Daily room cleanings as well! Tip: open the cabinet and youll find a hairdryer so you dont need to bust out your converter if you need to dry your hair. Free wifi but certain locations in the guesthouse are more glitchy than others. Breakfast here hits the spot. Choices between a full irish breakfast (comprising of sausage, eggs, ham, pancakes, white and black pudding plus tomatoes with beans/mushrooms) or poached eggs on test or scrambled eggs on toast. Theres a spread placed out with cereals, granola, fruits, yogurt and juices. Coffee or tea? Probably my favorite question of the morning. Ive drank an average of 3 cups of coffee per morning. Strong and delicious! I dont think you can go wrong with this place. We were well taken care of and received such great hospitality. If in the area, i definitely recommend checking it out! Also, pronounced "Ashley" like the name. Been pronouncing it wrong til the end of the trip. Oops.

As much as we wanted to leave, we had no other choice but to stay since every hotel at Carrick-on-Shannon was already booked for the weekend. Despite of the circumstances, we actually have come to love the accommodations being offered. In fact, we couldn't be anymore happier for this bed and breakfast to be our first especially due to how Charlotte and her husband treated us throughout our stay. The rooms were quite clean with really comfortable beds. One big plus was the private bathroom with plenty hot water to go around. Found it a little weird, however, to have the sink situated right outside the bathroom. There's also television and free Wi-Fi to keep everyone entertained. Best part of staying here: breakfast!! This is one of those few moments when I couldn't wait till the next day just to have a full Irish brekkie. Haven't eaten much black and white puddings before but I found the ones from here far better than what I had in restaurants around Dublin. They also have a buffet of fresh fruits, yogurt and granola for those wanting to start out their day with a lighter meal. Overall, Aisleigh (pronounced as "Ashley") Guest House is one of the better establishments in Co. Leitrim that provides both housing and breakfast. I was traveling alone internationally, a US citizen without car, and could see on maps that it is right on Ballinamore's main street. Though the home is tucked away on a long driveway, slightly distanced from the main road and surrounded by trees and greens, the address is still on the same street with many restaurants and bars, so that it was easy for me to obtain meals, and village activity would be accessible by foot. In this way it was perfect! The Chinese restaurant is especially, remarkably delicious... and I've even lived on the US's west coast, for comparison. Additionally I chose Hamill's because of the proximity to the Leitrim Genealogy Centre. I loved being able to stop in to meet a staff member there for an application. And also just a few steps away is the library. Though closed to in-person visits due to the pandemic, I was able to work on researching family history at both spots mostly via email. Other guests with cars spent day hours hiking the gorgeous land nearby. The trail by the canal, again just off main street, is an option for those without a car and is beautiful to explore. I spent some time at Garadice Lake as well, which was wonderful. But I have not mentioned enough about the actual B&B; it's fabulous. Damien and Bernadette are so very welcoming and accommodating. Damien mentioned to me how much he loves running the B&B and it certainly shows. As far as breakfast, he went out of his way to address my special diet needs without batting an eye. The breakfast is nearly too much, with so many delicious choices. I probably should not say anything more about how much both Damien and Bernadette went above and beyond their expected roles... because it would not be fair to encourage guests to expect all that they did to make my stay memorable, meaningful and comfortable. But I'll just say they both made sure I had everything I needed, and was able to experience all that I had set out to do while staying in Ballinamore. Additionally my room was absolutely lovely--lovely enough that one of my days, I enjoyed staying in and reading! Immaculate, service oriented, comfortable rooms, great beds, nice private bathrooms, there was nothing more we could ask for! The price was half the cost of some 4 star hotels we visited on this 2 week tour, but they were no where near as nice as Hamills! Bernadette went out of her way at every opportunity to provide a level of service I have not experienced since traveling on Cunard in the princess grill suites. Upon arriving back to the B& B after having visited family & touring the farms of my grandparents in the rain, Bernadette brought a pot of tea & Cadburry fingers into the lounge for us to warm up and relax before heading back into the rain & more family visits! While many hotels have been "chilly" or just plain cold we had to request they lower their heat because our 4 rooms were so hot & we didn't want to open windows. Bernadette said not to worry to be comfortable! A TRULY AMAZING PLACE TO STAY!

Attitude from restaurant manager was quite standoffish and that was the standard. Probably should state on menu or train staff so they know to tell customers in advance of ordering. Then staff kept a wide birth from us for rest of meal unless bringing dishes. To top it off the wrong main course was brought and I couldn't get anyone's attention to confirm so to be honest just ate it as didnt want to have any more interactions with manager. Room was nice with 2 exceptions exposed electrical wires in bathrooms and wallpaper coming of wall under the window. Easy fixes to my mind that should have been taken care off.

The inn is an updated traditional style inn with pink and blue colors as the main theme. Breakfast was served in an addition with liberal windows looking out to the patio, lush green lawn, and river in the distance. There were several breakfast offerings using local meats, fruits, vegetables and eggs. The innkeepers were efficient and pleasant but it would have been nice to have more recommendations on the surrounding area. I'm sure as time goes on the innkeepers will feel more relaxed with their interaction with guests.
