An exceptional experience from start to finish! Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was perfect…read more Check in was a breeze..we just went up to the gentleman at the desk, gave him our name, and he handed us the key to our room. It took, maybe, three minutes. He also confirmed our dinner reservations for the evening. In the lobby (which was more like a grand hall), they had a lovely array of complimentary coffee, teas, and pastries...all served with beautiful bone china. The castle is absolutely stunning both inside and out. The interiors are grand, and the grounds are just beautiful. We spent several hours walking around the park-like setting, and had drinks on the terrace overlooking the garden. Fantastic. We also walked through every inch of the interior's public rooms...don't miss the church! The entrance to our room was tucked away under a staircase. When I first saw it I thought, "Oh no, this room is going to be the size of a closet". When we went in we were taken aback. It was massive, with a very comfortable bed, sitting area, bathroom and a huge jetted tub. And it was clean as a pin, too. Dinner in the castle's opulent Dining Room was exemplary. Service was friendly and good-humored, and the food was very, very good. My wife had the salmon and I had the beef; both were perfect. We did the 3 course meal for 65 euros each, and feel it was worth every penny. Breakfast the next morning was just as good. It was also in the Dining Room, and was included in the rate we paid. Hot food was ordered off the menu, and cool food (cereals, fruit, cold meats, etc.) were offered buffet style. One last thing: as opulent, grand, and over-the-top as Markree Castle is, the one thing it wasn't was pretentious. You don't have to break out your tux, or sequined cocktail dress; as long as you don't look like you just rolled out of bed, you should be fine. At dinner I wore a white dress shirt and a nice pair of green jeans; I felt perfectly comfortable. Out of the 12 nights we spent in Ireland, this was our favorite we stayed. It's more than just a bed to put your head on; it's an experience, and an amazing one at that.

The drive into Markree Castle is a bit Agatha Christie, especially in torrential rain. You can't…read morehelp but think of Belgian detectives and drawing room accusations as you wind through the estate until you reach the castle. Once you're there though, it's the perfect place to disappear to for a few days of relaxation. We stayed at the apartments on the estate, in a converted stables. They were really nicely set up, very comfortable. These are pet-friendly too, so our dog was able to join us for the trip. It was great to just be able to take her for a walk around the estate. Location wise, there's a lot to do for outdoorsy types. A couple of loughs and bogs are good for hikers, and a few nice pubs in nearby Coolooney.

Honestly I contemplated not leaving this review but I feel like it has to be said... due to the…read moreLACK of handling or concern for the issue I occurred while staying at this hotel May 2-3. First of all the check in was absolutely bad, you literally feel ignored because they only have one computer for check in, bookings and all other things which is wildly bad business IMO. But the biggest issue at this hotel was the late night abusive secondhand security man. I would like to stress the Irish security guy at the front door was fabulous he was a very nice chap, but the SECOND security young man with the long hair who was NOT Irish I think he was Arab, terrified me STRICTLY BECAUSE after I had already shown my room key, said my last name (room was in my name) and my room number to the Irish lad and was walking in and going up the staircase towards my room the long haired Arab man came RUNNING and I mean RUNNING in an aggressive way after me DEMANDING my room number. Which of course as a woman walking into a hotel at night alone that is TERRIFYING!!! It literally shocked me, and I was refusing to say it and he got even more aggressive and verbally demanding. Now I had an incident a few months back in Cork where I was followed by 2 men and this gave me the exact same feeling and PTSD from that night so I was very upset. When I started to get physically upset the Irish security guard came rushing in to say the foreign lad worked here and then commanded the foreign lad to leave me alone he already checked my name. The foreign guy did NOT even apologize when I explained why this bothered me so much instead he GLARED AT ME and told me to not prevent him from doing his "job", well sir wth is that job exactly? To scare female guests?? Or worse! I do not think this man is safe to have on the property. So the next morning upon checkout I wanted to speak to the front desk and manager to let them know about what happened and that they need a safer less aggressive system to check room/guests at night.... And the response was ridiculous. The young woman at reception did not care at all it was a bit depressing but The manager who was not helpful either is ANTI WOMAN. I walked downstairs after feeling the lack of care and stood there to listen (ease drop) and I heard the manager telling the reception "not everything can be perfect" like EXCUSE ME?! That's the excuse that's the best they can say?! What RUDE RUDE RUDE ANTI WOMEN ESTABLISHMENT. Like honestly I will never go back there and I am going to post everywhere it's not safe for women. Avoid with all your life female travelers. There wasn't even a word of "well talk to him" no NOTHING!! Absolutely not okay.

Traditional Town Centre Hotel…read more Some of the hotel and rooms are now getting very dated but the helpful staff make up for this. All except for the Joe the owner who on a bad day is not good for business. Nice conference room which I have used for both public and private meeting. Food is average. Helpful staff as I have already said are what keeps the Bush in business. 2010/2011 Main Sponsor of Leitrim GAA. A very "green" hotel and seems very proud of the fact. Another plus point.
