We went to Spencer in 2023 with our personal taxes after my husband's parents died, and at first, he was easy to work with, answered our questions, and agreed to do our taxes and file. Then a few months in, he just stopped answering our calls and messages, with no explanation. My husband called his secretary one time, and she said he was available. Suddenly my husband heard Spencer's voice in the background asking who it was, and told her he was not available to us. I've reviewed on Google and now here. So much it to say but Just want to reiterate to those who are a more complex business model and aren't w-2 workers, this place is not for you. We have amended taxes done through Leivas, with DVBE financial services and it was so worth the money. Leivas did our payroll, bookkeeping and taxes...payroll was fine no problem there, but bookkeeping and taxes were horrible, they made mistakes on both. Amendments occurred because our current accountant noticed that we were not offered any tax incentives that we qualified for. With out delving too much into our personal stuff when it came to gov. programs for businesses or incentives these guys did not have our back. Quickbooks was a "I don't want to deal with you" kind of thing...We were treated as if we were non paying customers. Now our Quickbooks are a huge mess and we have paid double or more in tax preparation. We felt more of a bother for Leivas than anything mind you we paid full price no discount so I am puzzled by this. I could go on and get real personal about this but i'll stop here in hopes of providing any great business owner with helpful info about this business. read more

Initially I wasn't too happy with this office as the person scheduled for my phone appointment didn't call (I had to call to contact her) and then she passed my issue on to another professional who never followed up with me or called by the deadline they promised. Do not hire these guys. They forgot to file my payroll quarterly filing in June of 2019 and when I brought it to their attention they didn't even file the whole report, left me hanging and the EDD made me pay the penalty for their mistake. I've used Leivas Wealth Management and their associated H&R Block tax filing services for over five years. I recommend taking your account to Spencer, who provides astute, courteous and efficient financial guidance. I file my income tax here and formerly hired Leivas to manage our erstwhile LLC account as well. Hiring a tax accountant is somewhat of a luxury. However, if you're a freelancer with an armload of handwritten receipts and time sheets, it's an incredible stress reducer. Returns are generally processed and directly deposited within three weeks. While my tax needs are not especially complex, I feel valued at Leivas and commend their professionalism. read more

Sent my husband to do the Emerald Advance. Melissa made an error and put the wrong amount of income for our emerald advance (she forgot a zero). We got denied. We have never been denied. She told us to wait 24 hours for appeal, ended up turning into three days. Then she took off for a week vacation when we were told to call her back that Monday. It was Thanksgiving week. No apology, no attempt to reconcile for a mistake she made. I will make sure to go to a real HR Block next year. The incompetency left me very frustrated. read more

Desira has been very helpful with answering questions for our office in processing payroll, changes in CA labor law, processing taxes and annual audits. Desira responds quickly to emails and patiently answers all our questions over the phone and if needed in person. Used this company for my tax returns & they did them incorrectly causing me to owe more on taxes. Tried to resolve issue with the agent that originally did my taxes to no avail. Tried to contact agents manager & was told to wait till after April 15th. I took my taxes to elsewhere to have an amendment done which cost me $440 on top of the $280 paid to Leivas.
