Stopped in for lunch and settled on the red curry with chicken added. Happy they took my spicy request seriously. While it was nice and spicy, it was very flavorful. As someone who doesn't like salt, I didn't find the food too salty as other reviews have mentioned. Service was a bit slow, but I assume that's because there were only two workers besides the chef. Seems to be part of a sports bar/pub, but I will stick with the Thai food. Menu is limited, but will definitely be back. read more

This place has multiple personalities. Expect to have a good time and a good meal, but keep your expectations in check if you are looking for authentic Thai fare. Amazing meal! My wife and I have been here in the past, but they have stepped up their game! We ate on the patio, and I asked what specials were on, and to my surprise they had 5-6 different options just on special. We had curried nachos to start, and the Lamb Rogan Josh for a main. This was more than enough for the two of us to share. I am a tough critic of Curries, but this one was one of the best I've ever had. Seriously will be thinking about this meal for a while! I hope they feature this Curry often, or consider adding it to their menu. Service was also great, and their beer selection is amazing. Overall 10/10! Well worth the money. read more

I don't post often but I felt compelled after what was likely my worst Saint John dining experience to date. I had the lemongrass soup bowl ($26) and I was disappointed. This is sold as a "meal" soup but apart from a large volume of broth, it only had about 5 shrimp, a few pieces of baby corn, a couple tiny mushrooms and not much more. There were several inedible pieces of bamboo and Thai bay leaves. I asked the waitress if these were considered to be edible and she told me they were but I can assure you they weren't. Bad food and worse service. Waited 40 minutes for a lousy meal. Not genuine Thai food.

This was a disappointment on several levels. The bartender met us at the door, and asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. We told him inside. He said we could choose any seat we wanted. Most were sitting outside. We sat down and waited.... At least 10 min. Finally, I went to the bar and asked for a server. The fish tacos were recommended. My wife ordered the money bags. The fish tacos were very good. The flavoring and the batter was light and crispy, very tasty. However they seemed slapped together and not much tartar sauce or at least it was all in one spot. The money bags were just "okay". Given the name description and price, I expected something made in house. I'd say these were just pulled from the freezer at Sysco. My wife wanted a different sauce than than what typically came with them so she asked for a little side of peanut sauce. Nothing was said about an up charge for the sauce. The server did not return to check on us. I needed a little more tartar sauce for the tacos, so I had to go yet again to the bar to ask. The guy put the order for tartar sauce in and again nothing was said about an up charger. . The tartar sauce is home made and was very good. Our original server brought the sauce and asked if everything was ok. When she brought the bill. There was a charge of $2.50 for tartar sauce. And $1.50 for peanut sauce. Really? charge for condiments? Will we go back? Who knows? We try to eat at local restaurants, and since there are several more to choose from... probably not. read more

I had supper this evening at Peppers Pub on Market Square. The pub is combined with Lemongrass, which serves Thai fare. I had a busy tiring day and felt like pub grub. I ordered wings with honey garlic sauce. They were okay ... I wouldn't call them "the best wings". I also ordered mozza sticks. They too were just okay. They came with ranch dressing for dipping, which I found odd ... usually there is a tomato-based dipping sauce which I think works better than the ranch dressing. The noodles itself were good but the chicken was way too chunky and sooo dry. I eat thai food quite a lot but this was very disappointing. Exceptional food. Often go there for both lunch and dinner. Very reasonably priced and great service.

So in terms of authenticity, this place is not authentic. Instead it is almost kind of like a fusion cuisine and it also doubles as a pub which is a little bit confusing. At nights there is almost always live music and it is a very lively atmosphere. I have tried the lemongrass mussels and they could use more flavor but it was a pretty unique flavor that I haven't had before. The flavors here at this restaurant is too strong and way overpowering. For instants I had the Indian curry, VERY spicy (which is expected of Indian curries) but didn't really taste like Indian. The fried rice was too sweet but it is a HUGE portion (huge as in it could probably feed four people). The food here isn't the best but it's not bad either. The prices aren't horrible but overall I feel indifferent towards this restaurant. read more

I first tried lemongrass 3 years ago and have been dreaming about it ever since. I finally returned to Saint-John and I'm quite certain the meal was even better than last time. The veggie yellow curry (which is 100% vegan) is to DIE for. I have never had such amazing, rich, flavour packed curry anywhere else. It's heaping with tofu, sweet potatoes and a variety of local seasonal vegetables. I switched the jasmine rice for coconut rice and it was divine. The portion was large enough to take half of it home, meanwhile I was about to burst I was so full. My boyfriend took the shrimp curry and chicken satay and was deeply impressed as well! The waitresses are all attentive, the service was very fast and the restaurant is on the waterfront, so there's seating both indoors and out. A definite must! read more

I am anxiously awaiting them to re-open. I go here for Pad Thai every time I am home visiting Saint John. I am a vegan and it is one of the few places that I can at least get one delicious dish. I also just enjoy sitting down along the boardwalk. I do need to find out if the naan bread is vegan or not. One girl told us it was, so we ordered it. When we tried to order it the next time, another girl said "but that has egg in it". I will get to the bottom of that mystery. I really hope it is vegan naan bread. read more

Great pub-style ambiance, friendly and helpful staff and very nice food. I am a big fan of their Lemongrass Soup. Hands down the best hot and sour soup I've ever had and I've tried it at a lot of places. Their Coconut Beef dish is deliciously spicy and lightly flavored with coconut unlike many other Thai coconut dishes I've tried in the States. Their Spicy Pork dish is lovely, with plenty of vegetables. This is a good time to point out that nearly all of their dishes can be expanded with extra tasty vegetables and a side of naan. I really like the vegetables they select and the naan is nice, warm and oddly chewy, which grew on me. I've tried most of their entrees over the last 3 weeks and I will enjoy it for the next 2 while I'm in NB. read more

While on a trip home to visit my parents, some friends and I ate here at my request since I had heard so much about it after moving away from glorious New Brunswick in 2005. My short, quiet return happened this past October. One word can accurately sum up Lemongrass. Terrible. The service was lazy and akin to what you would expect to be capable of someone who has made the decision to live in Saint John. The server was nice enough, but I don't think he cares to make much of an attempt to think critically about his purpose as a server, let alone his function. Perhaps next time he sits guests at a table without cutlery he will make an attempt to deliver it before we have to ask for it after our meals arrive. The food was very disappointing. My girlfriend's favourite dish is Pad Thai and thus I've had a lot of Pad Thai by association... So, we both ordered it as did another in our group. The Pad Thai at lemongrass did not look, smell or even slightly taste like any Pad Thai her or I had ever been served. The potatoes were certainly an odd addition. On its own as a fried noodle dish it wasn't so bad, but unfortunately when you sell you dish as "a true taste of thailand" and my asian born girlfriend can't even remotely recognize the dish, you've certainly failed on being a restaurant deserving of a good review and a repeat visit. To be fair, some people I know seem to love this place and the food it serves, so perhaps it's the fault of my girlfriend and I for actually having had Pad Thai before, setting us up for disappointment... Regardless, I can't recommend you eat here and unfortunately offer no alternative other than to say; why are you bothering to eat out in Saint John, New Brunswick? Go to the market and prepare something yourself, it's probably the only way you won't be disappointing while eating food in this city. read more

A group of 4 of us ate here this past weekend while the buskers were in town. We picked it out of convenience as it kept us in the middle of the activity, on the boardwalk, and outside with their patio. However, this is were the 'good' experience ended. We had a late lunch/ early dinner so it was not busy. The patio was semi-full but there wasn't anyone inside. As it was, our lunch turned into a two hour affair due to ridiculously slow service. Our drinks of water and beer took 20 minutes to come to us. After that, our food of personal pan pizzas and burgers took another 45 minutes. Now great food I don't particularly mind waiting for, however this food was mediocre at best. If we didn't have such nice company, the wait would have been painful. If you are in Saint John there are many wonderful restaurants in the uptown area that you should definitely enjoy. However, Lemongrass is not one of them. Had literally the worst meal I've ever ordered at a restaurant at this place. Ordered Pad Thai and spring rolls. Both items were so ridiculously salty they were completely inedible. I'm guessing they were drowned in fish sauce. Maybe the dishwasher got promoted to head chef the day I came in? I was the only person in the place. We enjoyed Peppers Pub. It was not the best ever, but it was certainly good and the prices was great considering the location. We had the spring rolls which were a bit cool in the center, and the very nice bacon infused pork burger. This was a disappointment. We had pad Thai and the mild chicken & sweet potato curry. The Pad Thai was the much safer bet & was okay. But the curry was the disappointment --- the chicken & small pieces of sweet potato were overwhelmed in a pasty & tasteless sauce. The server was extremely friendly & the outdoor patio was okay. The inside dining room was overly dark & had an unpleasant odor & drab look. Maybe the sauce we picked was the least flavorful, but their curry needs work! I ate here twice while in Saint John. The first time I went was on a Friday evening in the winter and it was empty. I was a bit concerned but decided to dine there any way. Within an hour the place was packed and I fell in love with the Pad Thai. The second time I went with coworkers and it was warm enough to sit outside and listen to music but the Pad Thai was not as good and the service was god awful slow. I tried the pub food because I felt most of the other menu items were overpriced. I chose fish & chips thinking, I'm on the Bay of Fundy the fish should be good. Wrong! Extremely bland fish and completely tasteless chips. The wine and server saved the visit. I have been to other Lemon Grass restaurants and had great food at very reasonable prices. If there's anything I'm going to take away from our dining experience at this restaurant it's this. I absolutely love Canada. It's so refreshing when a restaurant is willing to accommodate to your dietary requirements. Our server, Matt was excellent. We told him we were vegan and he went back to the kitchen to check what can be made vegan. We ordered the salad rolls, yellow curry and coconut rice and omg. Too much food for 2 people. We were stuffed. But It was delicious we loved it. Without doubt I'd definitely recommend this place especially if you are vegan/vegetarian.
