Checked out this local brewery in Lena of course. It certainly is one of the highlights around here. Lena Brewing Company has beers but also food to fatten people up. A pretty busy place with locals and people from other areas. There's about what's expected on the menu it seems. Before even coming in there's a smell of barbecue. It's got a pretty full menu. There's a bar in the middle surrounded by plenty of tables. Beers are the main thing of course. It's about $7 a pint. Best one we had of these was the Coldstream Lager. This is a full bodied Bavarian style. A lot of the food is meaty. Brisket and that kind of stuff. Among the appetizers is the Cowboy Caviar. One of the few vegetarian options. This is a mixture of beans, cilantro, corn, jalapeños, red onions, and tomatoes. It's about $16 for the Tex-Mex Bowl. This has avocado, cilantro rice, Cowboy Caviar, marinated cucumbers, pico de gallo, and Thai sauce. Of course an option is to get it with meats added. There's plenty more things including burgers and pork belly tacos among the livestock based foods. For around here it's one of the better places for big crowds. It's got beers and barbecue along with some healthier options. They're closed Mondays and Tuesdays. read more

What a beautiful place to be! I have been to this brewery several times but it was at their old place. They had moved to next door. I love it. I love it of how I come in and they explained so clear of how to do it. You go up and order from the bar for beer to food. I had flight of beers and I love them all. I love their food. I had brisket mac and cheese wrap. Oh it was so good! I love the taste of smokey brisket. The bartenders were so nice and make sure I was okay. I was blown away that they do make beer for dogs only! Wanted somewhere to stop that was dog friendly on our way into Galena. Lena's not only is dog friendly but encourages people to bring their furry family members. The inside of the bar was relaxing and low-key. They have a wide selection on tap and offer cocktails for non beer drinkers. We stopped for lunch on the way to 'The Territory' and we really had a good time! Good food and very good beer. We had burgers, bar-b-que pulled pork, the famous chicken sandwich, and a couple of flights of beer. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food and beers. You seat yourself, place an order at the bar, and wait for the food to arrive. For beer, you get your order right away. The hefeweizen and DrunkelBerry (a dark wheat fruit beer) were very popular. Lager and Irish Red beers were very good as well. The Oktoberfest and Drunkelberry were so highly regarded a 6 pack of each was purchased for later. We got there on a Saturday just before noon and the place was pretty busy within a short time. This seems to be a highly regarded establishment in Lena! We don't get out this way too often, but we'll happily recommend it to friends heading to the Galena area. read more

Elevated bar food with a lot of bbq type offerings. Just missed. The pulled pork was delicious (but a touch fatty). Brisket, not so much. No flavor from the smoker. The Cole slaw needs dressing (Marie Calendars, hint hint). My wife's beer was good. I went here on the way home from Galena. The ambience is very nice and I love the fact that this restaurant is very dog friendly. You order your food at the counter and then the restaurant next-door called The Rafters who partnered with them deliver the food. My black cherry Dreamsicle cocktail was excellent. I was told the beer sampler was also good and there's ample beers to choose from. The bbq brisket sandwich was fresh, tender, delicious and amble for two people. I upgraded the side and got the loaded mac & cheese. That was very good too! This is my new favorite spot near Galena. I will definitely be back next time I am on my way to Galena! read more

My husband and I stopped here on our way to Gelena, IL and cannot say enough great things about this place. We were greeted with a warm welcoming smile and got a quick run down on how everything worked. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Had a variety of draft beers to choose from and a menu with plenty of food options to pick from. We decided on the BBQ Nachos added the pork...delicious! I have eaten here many times when it was the Rafters. Local friends and I decided to try it since the new format. Very nice clean sports bar atmosphere. You sit and review the menu then order at the bar. You're given a pager to mate with the napkin dispenser to announce your seating location to staff when your food is done. Pretty slick. Food arrived in a timely manner. I had the hamburger was very good. Now for my gripe. I ordered a Diet Coke. It came in a small 12 ounce take out style cut and was $3. No refills. They were also $3. WTF?? Especially since you have to go to the bar to get it. I Can see charging $3 if was something considerably larger than a sippy cup. I have always drank a lot when I eat. It was too early to have a beer so I go with soft drinks. I usually have one refill. Next was the $2 additional for a slice of cheese on the burger. I can see a buck, but $2 for basic slice of cheese is a little steep. The food was great but my cheese burger meal was $24. read more

Ok, so who doesn't love a place that you can bring your dog into? They even have a doggie wall of fame. But seriously. This place is adorable. Such a great atmosphere and incredible people working. A flight of beer ($10) is the way to go then you get the chance to try a few different options. Everyone is so friendly here and the cute bar just makes you want to post up for hours. On our way to Dubuque we came across this brewing company. We had some time so we decided to stop in. Its a cute place, decorated very nicely and has really cool bathroom fixtures made out of kegs! We didnt see many cars out in front but when we walked in there were a ton of people. We were shocked. Where did all these people come from? Turns out it was a tour group that had stopped by for some tastings. They must have hid the tour bus in the back of the brewery where there is extra parking. Our server was super nice and gave us a sheet of the drink list to order from. They offer flights of 4 for $10, 8 for $20 and 12 for $30. We opted for the flight of 8 and my favorites were the carmel pecan coffee stout and the drunkelberry. With our tasting we also received complimentary pretzels. I'm hoping one day they will bottle that drunkelberry. It was delicious! If you are ever in the area definitely check this place out! read more

We had an amazing experience during a quick lunch stop on our way home from a weekend in Galena. We were greeted by Mindy as we entered the brewery and she provided amazing service to us from helping us decide which beers or drinks we should order and then steered us in the right direction with our food order. We are huge dog lovers and if you are too and want to enjoy a great lunch with a nice beer this is the place to go! As for the beer, it's always been filled with great selections, so I would recommend bringing a growler to fill up so once you are done with your road trip, you have a nice treat to relax with. Let me preface this by saying that I had the following two beers while I was here: Caramel Pecan Coffee Stout and Chocolate Covered Strawberry. Both beers were spot on and lived up to their name. They also had a good dozen other brews on tap that looked inviting. The brewery itself is a piece of genius. The indoor bar area features regular tables, bar seat tables and a regular bar. They also have a patio with Adirondack chairs..great for warmer temp days. When you walk in you'll also see a wood stump with a hammer. Be sure to read the instructions and ask the bartender for a couple of nails. The folks here were so cool that they even allowed my kiddo to tap his own nail in. A couple other cool things, guys..be sure to check out the urinal. It couldn't be any 'truer'. And as an "I spy"..see if you can spot the original 1980's Star Wars lunchboxes. My son and I are Star Wars fans and got a kick out of them. Last but not least, be sure to grab some of the iron puzzles sitting on the window ledge. Good mind teasers, especially when you've had a few drinks. Good conversation is useful at any brewery and the folks who where here yesterday were just that. Both bartenders were knowledgeable and eager to talk to their customers. Lena is off the beaten path from us but I'm glad we trekked out.
