Unfortunately, in 2025, we experienced a major sewage backup in our kitchen sink. Another plumber had to investigate further by going under our house, and ultimately determined that the issue likely stemmed from a construction defect--not normal settling or wear and tear. We were advised to contact the builder, but getting in touch with someone at Taylor Morrison was extremely difficult and required persistent follow-up. Eventually, they did agree to cover the cost of replacing the main sewer line, which confirmed that the issue was due to poor construction. However, we were still left with over $5,000 in out-of-pocket expenses just to diagnose the problem -- not to mention the fact that we couldn't use our kitchen sink for over a month while waiting for the builder to act and coordinate a vendor. This situation should never have occurred with a new home. It's unacceptable that we had to bear the burden of cost, time, and inconvenience due to the builder's construction error. We were more than patient throughout the process, but the lack of accountability and customer service was extremely disappointing. We cannot recommend Taylor Morrison to anyone looking for a reliable builder.

Always accusatory, always customer is wrong. Good luck on getting anything done after closing. We had a mirror that was not hung up and we noticed after closing. This was our fault "you did this". We had a paint stain on back door "you did this". There is paint/grout not coming off side fence "you fix it, it's dirt". There is a huge drainage backup in backyard...waits 3 days to inspect and say "oh 72 hours is normal drain time...you're good now." Do yourself a favor and go to another builder or something not in this man's management reach.

Our home reflects the quality of the $150k house with nicked cabinets, uneven drywall, cracked doorframes, paint on the tile and the site of sloppiness everywhere. And that's just the start. It was months of miscommunication, misinformation, and fighting battles over everything. From sales to the construction manager(s) no one knew the answers to our questions and when we got answers they were incorrect. We went through 3 construction managers over two months, no one knew what the other had said, did or promised. We lost many nights sleep and stressed constantly over our home and with good reason, we were underwhelmed with the finished product. We spent the first night in our new house cleaning because it was so dirty. After moving in, we had a leaky ceiling because the AC unit was put in incorrectly leaving a water stain. Our electrical was also put in incorrectly so the lights went out in my son's room shortly after moving in. We've decided to fix the remaining items ourselves instead.

Extremely Disappointed and Deeply Concerned About the Safety of Our New Home at the Mt. Vernon…read moreNorth Community in Fortville, IN. We moved into our newly built D.R. Horton home last weekend. Shortly after moving in, we noticed a faint odor of gas. At first, we assumed it was related to the new gas appliances in the home. Two days later, however, the odor became significantly stronger, and I had an uneasy feeling that something was seriously wrong. I contacted the gas company, and a technician responded immediately. He tested the air inside our home and confirmed the presence of natural gas. He then inspected the furnace and touched the gas line. The gas line collapsed when he touched it. The technician was shocked by what he found and told us that, had the air conditioning system been running and provided a source of ignition, the consequences could have been catastrophic. My wife, our dog, our home, and potentially our neighbors could have been in tremendous danger. The technician immediately capped the gas line and shut off the gas service to our home. Because this occurred around 11:00 p.m., I immediately contacted the D.R. Horton construction supervisor to report what had happened and emphasized that this needed to be addressed immediately. The following morning, the construction supervisor responded and said he would contact the company responsible for installing the gas line. The plumbing company came out and repaired the line. However, what the plumber told us afterward was extremely disturbing. He stated that the gas line currently in our home was not the same gas line his company had installed and that the line appeared to have been tampered with. We immediately relayed this information to the construction supervisor, but he was unable to provide us with an explanation for how or why this could have happened. At that point, we contacted D.R. Horton's corporate office in Texas. We were told that someone would contact us within 48 hours from the Indianapolis office, regarding this extremely serious situation. It has now been 96 hours, and we have received no phone call, no explanation, no apology, and not even an acknowledgment that someone is investigating what happened. That lack of communication is almost as disturbing as the original safety issue. This was not a minor cosmetic defect or a typical new-home punch-list item. We had a potentially dangerous natural-gas leak in a brand-new home. We were fortunate that my family and I recognized something was wrong and that the gas company responded when they did. I am posting this review because prospective D.R. Horton customers need to understand that purchasing a newly constructed home does not mean they should assume everything has been properly installed and inspected. Check everything. Have critical systems independently inspected. If something doesn't seem right, don't ignore it. My greatest concern is not simply what happened to our family. It is the possibility that something similar could happen to another family who may not recognize the warning signs or may not have the same circumstances that led us to call the gas company. A situation involving a natural-gas line should receive an immediate and serious response from the builder. Instead, after reporting what happened, we have been left waiting for answers. We purchased a brand-new home expecting it to be safe for our family. At this point, we are deeply disappointed in both the circumstances that allowed this to happen and D.R. Horton's lack of communication and concern afterward. I would strongly encourage anyone considering building a home with D.R. Horton to do their due diligence, have the home thoroughly inspected, and think very carefully before making that decision. A brand-new home should not leave a homeowner questioning whether their family is safe inside it.
