My Service Dog/canine bestie needed her rabies shot. I'm po', and wasn't sure if I could afford the annual exam, including the full vaccine regimen. (Times are tough right now.) I went back, and forth with the staff about whether I'd just get the rabies shot, or the whole panel of injections. At the very last minute, as the doctor came in with three syringes, I told him, and his assistant that I could only afford the legally mandated rabies vaccine for now. Everyone I encountered was respectful, and helpful. Two different women helped me with the doors, and one moved a chair, so that I could maneuver my mobility scooter around the small office. The doctor had a gentle enough demeanor that he calmed my skittish puppy girl. This was supposed to be a one time visit, as I'm moving to the far northeast side in a few days, and figured I'd find our next veterinarian near my new home. But I think that I might be back for the rest of fuzzy butt's vaccines in the future, when I'm in the area for my own doctors' appointments. Down one star due to lack of Service Dog discount, but they gain it back with their sweetness, and allowing me to be a walk-in on a busy Saturday morning. read more

I'll get a second opinion before scheduling the recommended surgery, but the doc seems knowledgeable and able with 21 years experience. The staff was super friendly and careful. read more

This place is good in the sense that they did exactly what I needed them to do and didn't try and push anything else and I thought the pricing was fair and Dr. M did address my concerns which we were there for. This place has obviously been around for awhile. However, I will say that this place could definitely benefit from a deep cleaning and sanitization. The room we were put in smelled like urine and hadn't been cleaned up after the previous pet, so that was kind of a not-so-great first impression while we were waiting for the doctor. This is my first year in Texas and I had assumed it would take me a bit to find the right veterinarian for my two cats. Beginners luck, this was the first vet I went to and will definitely be returning. We took in a kitten to be neutered and get a checkup/rabies shot. Dropped him off in the morning & that evening brought home a playful, happy kitten who behaved as if nothing had happened. No scars or evidence of pain, we were given pain medication but in the two weeks since the procedure the kitten hasn't seemed uncomfortable once. I was expecting to return with a more subdued kitten, but still have the same rambunctious boy he has always been. Took the mommy cat in to have her stitches removed after a clumsy spaying procedure at the shelter she had been at. Dr. Meier had the stitches removed while I was chatting with the receptionist, quick and courteous service. He also checked to be sure she was healing up properly, he gave her individual and caring attention. Great quality and service, I would recommend this vet for any cherished pet. read more

Professionalism, Responsiveness I had to put down a stray cat that would always come and stay around my house. His face was swollen and his eye was literally popped out of his face. I knew he was suffering. I called around to several vets around the neighborhood. So many reasons they would give for not doing the service. I mean I was willing to pay. They would tell me that I would need to make an appointment but were all booked. One even said not taking new patients, need to pay for an office visit first before vet could make that decision. I mean really he is a stray. Also the emergency clinic on Grissom road had waits for 4 hours or longer. So much for being an emergency clinic. I kept trying. I called Leon Valley Vet hospital, not only were they willing to do it but said bring the cat in now. I did and did not have to wait. The staff was friendly and the vet even took the time to come out and tell me that I did the right thing, The cat was suffering from a brain tumor that was probably cancerous. I am so grateful for Dr Meier and the staff. They totally earned the respect of actually caring for animals and not just a number as the vets nowadays tend to make you feel. Dr. Meier and his staff are wonderful. I've only been a handful of times because I haven't lived in San Antonio very long but the service my dog and I have received each time has been great. I have a 9 year old Yorkie and an almost two years old Lab mix. The Dr. And staff always take their time and answer all of my questions. At my last visit, I was told my Yorkie needed a dental cleaning, this was the first time I was told and I've been there probably 3-4 times so it's not like every check up they're trying to get you in for extra or unnecessary service. He even told me to wait a couple months and they'd be having a special promotion so I could save some money. Prices seem fair and reasonable from what I've experienced. They've managed to squeeze me in the once or twice times I've thought something was really wrong with my dog. If you're looking for a new vet, give this place a try. read more

We just picked up our Great Dane from the excellent care of Dr. Meier, David, Christina, Samantha, and other members of this great clinic. Our baby girl was suffering from pyometra. The friendly staff referred us to an emergency after-hours hospital where she was seen and diagnosed that night. The prognoses, (while serious), also provided us a little time to have her surgery the following day under the care of Dr. Meier and his staff. We dropped her off this morning, and they fit us into their already busy schedule. By noon, they provided us with an update, and we were able to pick up an entirely different puppy just a few short hours later. Dr. Meier is patient and allowed us to ask MANY questions, and his staff were all courteous and friendly. We have frequented (and left) other animal clinics, and this is the best I have come across in San Antonio. She has been in their care for over a year, and we won't bring her anywhere else! They even do their best to help save us money any way possible. If I could give them 10 stars I would! read more

My dog is literally in pain with a swollen paw and mouth and they turn away my service and tell me to come down to VitalPet. I went 20min til closing time. My husband and I recently moved to San Antonio. The second day we were here, our Lab mix wasn't moving his tail, which was a weird thing since he uses it as a weapon lol. I would give Dr Meier a higher rating normally but I want to let people know something. If you need to have your pet put down be sure and let them know that you want sedation for your pet first. I did not ask as I thought it was part of the process. I found out afterwards that it is not their practice to sedate first. My dog did not go peacefully. read more

Dr. Meier's is an incredible veterinarian! When our dog died suddenly I called and asked them if I could bring Daisy over - they stayed late to accept her and Dr. Meier's went out of his way to find out what happened to her. We have been through some tough times and tears with Dr. Meier's and he has always tries to find out the reason for the animals issues. He goes above and beyond - truly. We can't say enough about LVVH except we wish we would have found him a long time ago. Dr Meier's also picked out our new fur child! This is the BEST vet hospital in San Antonio! The staff are friendly and professional! They know your fur babies names and always ask how they are! But most of all Dr. Mierer is wonderful. He is always honest with you about your babies illnesses, he is professional yet is always sympathetic and has shows great empathy ! If he can't help with a certain illness he will he will refer you to where you can get the care needed. He saved three of my fur babies lives in recent times! I will be eternally grateful for his knowledge, honesty, love of animals, and always being there when needed. Yes, the building is small and old but well kept! It's not always the esthetic's that matter but the people that work there. I have been to a vet clinic (will not name the hospital) here that was a new, updated building but will never return due to the staff and the unprofessionalism of the vet!! When I got my 1st dog, Coco back in 1993 I chose Leon Valley Vet. Hosp. because it was closest to my home. At LVH I became accustomed to taking Coco in, and after a thorough look over Dr. Meier would give me his diagnosis, and explain how to care for him and We'd be on our way, meds in hand. Once home I'd follow Dr.'s orders and Coco would be feeling better soon. When we moved away I had to try other Vets where they would often misdiagnose Coco causing him additional pain, and me additional vet bills. Upon moving back to SA I was glad to be able to put my Coco back in the care of Dr. Meier. And when it came time to put my dog of 20yrs down, Dr. Meier even came to my home to do it. Now 3dogs, and 5cats later, I NEVER feel at ease when one of my babies are ill until Dr. Meier has seen them, as he always knows how to make everything better! It always amazes me how well he handles each animal; from my delicate elderly poodle, to my squimish yorki, and even our unpredictable felines. Also, he doesn't take advantage of me finantually, and I really appreciate that. Instead, if needed this doctor will even refer me to where i need to go BEFORE incurring a high bill like other vets often do. I read a review complaining about the staff and another about the waiting room, and i just want to say no place is perfect. However, what is important is that Dr. Meiers knows what he is doing and he cares. He always figures out what is wrong, and knows how to make my babies feel better. I trust him completely with my beloved pets, and I refer him to all my friends and family. In fact, he is THE BEST PRIMARY CARE VETERINARIAN! read more

I move a lot and finding a Veterinary that can help me care for my two geriatric dogs (one has diabetes that has caused numerous other health issues) is difficult. I have been to many Veterinarians and know a good match for me and my pets. And the search is over! Dr. Meier and his staff have been exceptionally helpful to include the ease of which I am able to maintain my pets quality of life with their many maintenance prescription medications. Dr. Meier also diagnosed a medical issue (that the previous Veterinarian missed) that was correctable by surgery. And now after the surgery his life has vastly improved. We took our two dogs for vaccination in early May 2016, and the dogs were given a flu vaccine. We then set up a boarding for our dogs over July 4th, and the boarding place told us the flu vaccine we were given was out of date when it was given. The new vaccination for flu was distributed Jan 2016, but Dr. Meier gave the old vaccination. Dr. Meier demanded full payment for the new vaccination despite admitting that an old vaccination was given. We now have to pay for another vaccination and make our dogs suffer because this clinic gives old vaccinations. Cannot recommend this clinic or veterinarian. read more

Dirty and smelly office. The vet was VERY rude and gave me an incorrect diagnosis (and basically told me my dog had a potentially fatal condition) without even examining my dog herself. When I said I would get a second opinion (two other vets that I saw immediately after who confirmed my puppy was going to be just fine) the vet was combative and even more rude. I would never recommend this place to someone who cares about their animals. read more

If i could give Dr Meier and his team 10 stars i would. if you are like me, your pets are your family, your furry children, and their care and comfort is at times, a higher priority than your own. At Leon Valley Vet i never have to worry. they care for my animals and even the animals i foster as if they are their own. they know us all by name, and ask about the others when only bringing 1 in. Dr Meier got me and my dog through a very traumatic eye injury which required surgery to remove the eye. i was out of town when it happened, a friend watching my dogs, and Dr Meier not only performed the surgery for MUCH less than the emergency vet but he also boarded my Bolli until i returned home. He called me personally everyday with updates about my guy. it really set my heart at ease knowing he was in such good hands. My older girl Tessa had her anal glands rupture on a Saturday, and we rushed to Leon Valley Vet with her wrapped in a towel to catch the blood. i was frantic. the clinic was very busy that day, but he took the time to not only see us, but also to clam me down and assure me that everything would be ok even before they could take me back to a room. my newest addition, a shepherd/malinios mix was having anxiety issues that required seeing a specialist. Dr Meier had been contacted by the behaviorist and knew when our appointment was, and that day he called me to see how i was doing and what they said the outlook was for my pup. i didnt even know he knew about the appointment! As you can see. Leon Valley Vet and the staff there hold a special place in my heart. Dr Meier and David are SO good with the animals. and the prices are fair and reasonable. i often tell them, if they would see humans - i'd be the first one signed up! I have worked with Dr. Meier and his staff for over 14 years. He takes care of not only my personal pets but my rescue pets (over 300 yearly). I trust him without hesitation!! He goes to all lengths to help my pets as well as our precious rescue animals. He will work with us on trying to get the job done according to funds we have to get it done. If he can't do it he will send us to those that can. I have nothing but the highest of praise for this man and his front/back office personnel. So sorry if it might not always be the cleanest place - I can tell you they work hard to keep it clean but when you have someone like me bringing in 30 animals at one time in one day it might be a bit difficult to get all the fur up quickly!!! And when they have an injured animal coming in at a moments notice and still take care of "regular" scheduled people - then we all need to be a bit more understanding as to why the front office might need to take a break!!! This man and his staff are truly incredible! I HIGHLY recommend them. And this is after visiting and finally making a choice on what vet our rescue group feels will do the very best job possible for our rescue animals!!! read more
