PLEASE READ I took my dog to this vet because of all the good reviews. Our vet was booked until Monday so we went on a Thursday because our chihuahua was breathing funny so we wanted to make sure she was OK before Monday. They ran test on her and said she was in congestive heart failure but they never said her life was at risk or was there any mention of any urgency to take her to an ER. Instead a $100 bottle of pills that she needed to take for the rest of her life and $500+ bill later she was sent home. Once again they never said anything about this being an emergency and then the next day our baby DIED AND I BLAME THEM!! So that next day we spent $600 to cremate our baby instead of $600 to try to save her life. I dnt know why our dog didn't get 4..7 star treatment but I give them ZERO STARS read more

Dr Beissner is the most no nonsense, compassionate, selfless, thoughtful, knowledgeable & practical vet I've known, having owned, found and re-homed hundreds of animals on my own with a very limited budget. I will gladly pay him for his services because I know my pets are in good hands and I know I'm not being coerced into unnecessary procedures. It's money well spent for the most fragile members of our family. Dr B helped me through the most devastating loss of a pet that I've ever experienced. My best friend and service dog passed way in Dr B's care after a good long life of 16 years. It was such a good experience having a friend like Dr B there for me and my dog that I didn't even cry. it was the right thing to do and Dr Beissner was the only vet I felt comfortable with this end of life process. He even made sure I was ok before I left. I have never forgotten his compassion for my old, limping dog and me with my terrible anxiety at that time. He's not only an outstanding vet; he's a great human being. You will not be just a number to Dr B. He may not remember Max or Fifi's name, but he'll care for them as if they were part of his own animal family. He goes the extra mile for others. I've seen it throughout the years. If Charlie dies I'm holding your company responsible, he has blood in his stool, before I brought Charlie to have dental cleaning, he was in excellent health, since his dental, he was so traumatized it's hard traveling with him now, he's always shaking and nervous and I'm having a hard time calming him down. Came back again for a walk-in wellness check for my cat. Really pleased with how they handled her. She is very stressful with vet visits and can get feisty. We were able to get her vaccines quickly without any medications or sedation (previous vet back home wouldn't see her without putting her under sedation). The wait was a bit longer this time than last but if you need to be seen or can't/don't want to wait for an appointment it's worth it. The staff took great care of our pups. They are good about getting pets in for care and have some walk-in hours posted. The only recommendation I have is for Teresa to learn to prioritize clients. I was in town to tend to the affairs of a beloved relative and my dog had some symptoms I worried were heartworm. The clinic got me in same day (walk-in), had excellent COVID procedures, and were so very kind and caring about my puppy worries, as well as my loss and the fact that my home was under threat of the CA fires. I visit San Antonio regularly and there isn't a visit that doesn't require a trip to the vet, as I have a geriatric dog and a puppy who eats everything. The care for my pet seems fine and staff is friendly but the office communications and policies are terrible. First, if you are a new patient you have to wait in their walk-in line. They open at 8 but what you don't know is people start lining up by 7am. So the first time I came at 8am and didn't get seen until 12:30pm. My cat gets stressed in the carrier so that was hard. The appointment was quick but helpful and when I brought her back for the same issue the wait time was better 2 hours and the vet was thorough and helpful. I had my cats records emailed but I got the feeling they didn't review them. We had a bunch of tests and the culture told us what the infection was and we put her on different antibiotics so I texted (they texted me first) to ask about or cancel an expensive ultrasound appointment and didn't hear back and texted again the morning of. I got a call a little later to say that they were wondering where I was and that they didn't get my texts. Then they said they were going to charge me anyway so I brought her in. I don't think she needed the test and that they just wanted the money. So if you have a lot of time to wait, make sure you call and get the name of who you talk to and explain your pets history each time then this might be the vet for you. read more

I've only been here twice but I love it. The staff is very professional, courteous, helpful and friendly and the same goes for our actual Vet. He's so sweet and our puppies love him! Keep in mind that with everything going on right now, you have to stand in line outside and then check in with the staff and then wait in your car until they have a room available so wait times can be longer, even with an appointment. Even with longer wait times, I think it's still worth your time to come here. They always try to give you the best price for everything and nothing is ridiculously expensive. Went on the Friday of a holiday weekend so the line was longer than normal.. checked in, waited in my car and once they had a room for us they called me and advised us to come in. Waited for vet for less than 10 mins and then he prescribed my dog 3 prescriptions for her double ear infections and seasonal allergies. Dr. B is personable, knowledgeable and will not try to up sell at all as a matter of fact quite the contrary. He will rarely order bloodwork unless it's absolutely necessary. I left an exceptional vet in Hawaii and that was one of the difficult things about moving to San Antonio. I searched a lot of reviews before finding this place. Finding a vet you can trust and appreciate is always hard. In fact, I'd compare finding a vet with finding a good mechanic. So many times vets try to push unnecessary things to well-intentioned dog owners. I love my dogs but I've been told my dogs "need" warmed towels after surgeries and ice chips. Come on. I have seen both a male and female vet here. Both are exceptional. They will tell you what you really do need and never up-sell you. I have been here about 15 times (I foster dogs often) and have never been disappointed. They have saved my dog Duke's life. The building might not look like much but that's because the money goes to your animals' care, not aesthetics. Update: There is no way there is a better vet in the nation. I find it hard to believe there would be. Dr. B goes out of his way to ensure every animal and human gets exceptional treatment. I have no idea how he runs such a busy clinic, but he does an incredible job. He calls after each surgery. He calls when he hasn't seen the dog in a while. I have had one of the staff vets call me and give an update while my pet was in surgery because I was told a procedure would take a certain amount of time and surgery was running long. I took my 16 yr old dog in to see Dr. B bc I thought it was time to put him to sleep, although Dr. B agreed he knew (not just from my sobbing) this dog was my beloved pet and suggested I take him home for extra love and cuddles and let the dog decide when it was his time. Although I was very conflicted about this, it was THE BEST ADVISE EVER!!!! Dr. B was not concerned with making money on putting my pet to sleep or loading my dog up on meds. Instead Dr. B shared a personal story about his childhood dog, shared a Kleenex with me and sent me on my way. The Blue Cross staff truly cares about your pet. You don't get fluff and fancifulness, you don't get high tech, you don't get a separate dog/cat waiting area, your don't get techs that push products or even a vet that pushes procedures/meds. What you do get is a pet clinic where people wait to see the vet bc they know they will be treated honestly and with compassion. I love this place! I have 4 dogs and recently began fostering 2 more found on the street. I've been to vets all over San Antonio over the years with my other dogs. The 2 we found were sick but needed care and I had a friend who rescues recommend this place to me. I was nervous coming in, but that quickly went away. Dr. Beissner is great! I've seen a lot of vets trying to find a good fit for me and my big furry family. He always spends time with each animal and tells me when he's concerned about something. He never pressures you into expensive procedures. He gives you the options and tells you the prices up front. The office is pretty small and it's walk-in only for anything other than a procedure. Sometimes there's a wait because they only have 3 treatment rooms and occasionally many patients will be waiting in the waiting room. For me, it's worth the wait to get an honest opinion if one of my animals is having a problem. Dr. Beissner is great with dogs and cats and I've even seen someone bring in a goat!
